Classic Crime, The - Closer Than We Think Lyrics
What's it gonna take for me?
I'm on my hands and knees
While all the poets fill pages of loose leaf
I feel cheap and I feel empty
We will bathe in the sea of disbelief
No we will not die so easily
And I knew that this would happen, it always does
And I couldn't stop my reaction so I let it come
I let it come
I still hold the belief that we are free
That we don't need the rules to see
That despite what we've done we're not alone
We're closer than we think to home
It didn't take me long to believe that I could do anything
We turn the songs up loud so we can sing
I am true and I am living
We will walk through the valley of the shadow of the boring
And burn it all
No we will not go quietly
And I knew that this would happen, it always does
And I couldn't stop my reaction so I let it come
I let it come
I still hold the belief that we are free
That we don't need the rules to see
That despite what we've done we're not alone
We're closer than we think to home
To home, to home, to home, to home, to home, to home, to home
Across the water you call me, but I'm not listening as I sink down
Water fills my lungs as I begin to drown
I knew that this would happen

Classic Crime, The Closer Than We Think Comments
Vaughn Hirschkorn 🔥
2018 is still listening!!
it doesn't matter what it's about. I feel it's love itself.
I was scrolling through the comments when I noticed people arguing about what this song is about. I think what alot of people seem to forget is that not everything is interpreted the same way. You can interpret this as a Christian song, and he/she can interpret as something else. That's the great thing about music. It means whatever it means to you despite whatever anyone else says.
VERY under rated this band, got me through a few rough years and they deserve more than this commercial bollocks now a days
Some one please make a lyrics video of the song "A perfect voice" please make it so works for mobile...
Description
This world is filled with arguments. Without arguments solutions wouldn't exist
I don't know why people whine about them, whining just makes more arguments
but I'm fine with that because I love arguments
So sick of every single Youtube video filled with arguments, and it always seems to be Christians... Is this who we're supposed to be? o.O Seriously, this is a great song by a great band. That's all that needs to be said here. :)
Peter reference is terrific. Still holds true today. Biblical truths outlast most others.
hello i'm Peter seriously that my name.
Indeed, I know many "Christians" who are more lost then atheists. It's sad how they give their "savior" a really bad name. but one shouldn't judge something perfect by their imperfect reasoning and imperfect people like myself.
uh no. Thats like saying standing in a garage makes you a car. Just cause a person goes to church doesnt make them christian. and just cause you are signed to a faith based label doesnt mean you are a christian band. what you just said was by far the dumbest thing in the world. Your label doesnt make you a Christian. your walk with Christ does. what about demon hunter? their not signed to a christian label. Does that make them an atheist band? no it doesnt. your sir are stupid
thats funny, my friends call me hippie
ugh, hippie
That may be so now. I just remember them saying they weren't a christian band. Maybe that's what they consider themselves now, who knows. I'll ask Matt when I see him next.
The Classic Crime has NEVER considered themselves a Christian band. Just Christians in a band. aside from two members. Now I believe its just one though
they are becoming more outspoken as Christians i believe. Especially their new album, which becomes, I would say, blatantly so
not for people who hate music lol :p
@soxfreak37 that's not true. Even though they were signed to a Christian label, they still did not consider themselves a christian band. They told me...
Let me point out that The Classic Crime does not label themselves as a Christian band. Most of the members are Christian, and they have positive songs, but that doesn't make them a "Christian band". Saying you won't listen to them because they are Christians is as narrow minded as saying you can't be friends with a gay person.
agree with both top comments.
This song is amazing! I don't care what religion they are.. Neither should anyone else, I agree with Green5126. ENJOY THE EFFIN MUSIC <3
YOU DA MAN
Just like many of you would shun music that claimed there is no god and that we should all just live like reasonable, empathic humans, rather than putting our faith in some apparition, I (and many like me) believe the world would be a better place without religion. Thus, music with a bent toward religious ideology is a pretty big turn-off for us. I did not mean to start some immature flame war, but simply to express my disappointment in the appropriate place: the comment section.
@lukehinsy I know it's 6 months later... but they're not a Christian band. Some of the band members are Christian, some are not.
@Baeng06 Aren't you doing the same thing that Christians do? Shoving what you believe onto another forcefully? I'm not trying to start nothing, but what you did is just as bad as the hypocrytical Christians. Not all Christians are "shovey" or anything. Anyway, I agree this band is EPIC! =D
KONY 2012
Best band ever! Come to toronto!
@ghostfairy agreed.
<3 Music brings us all together <3
@ all the haters: Chill out, listen to the music, and show some respect.
@Baeng06 what makes you think you have the right to shove YOUR opinions in anyone else's face?! Seriously, dude, chill. And for anyone else arguing in the comments, why are you all hating? Chill. Whether the band is or is not Christian, that's none of your business. Its their life and their music. Whether or not someone has the same beliefs as you do doesn't mean anything. Show some respect.
@lukehinsy
that was my gut reaction too, but it sounds pretty good aesthetically,
so i feel good about listening to their music without supporting it monetarily...
i dont understand why people bash on christian music...first of all its cool second of all christianity is the best religion if you ask me (i mean jesus revived people, walked on water, made water wine, revived even himself...what else do you want?) and its good music anyway does it matter? if i like a song by buddists or sumthin im not supposed to like it cause im christian?
Come on guys... I'm not really religious, but you gotta admit this band is the bomb. Saying it's a turn off that the band may or may not be Christian is more narrow minded than anything i've seen from so called "Jesus freaks". Be chill. <3
Lol why are all these commenters religiously ostracizing and condemning those who feel Luke this song has Christian undertones?? Haha, so much for "open mindedness!" Everyone, quit hatin'. Start lovin'.
Gosh, I needed this message this morning. Thank God for The Classic Crime.
Sh*t, this is a christian band? I liked one of their songs I heard on Pandora (The Ascent), but knowing they're pushing that garbage is a complete turn-off... Dropped off my radar immediately :-/
i'm pretty sure i wasn't meant to be here so people would like me. I'd rather in fact share in my saviors ridicule and suffering. Take up my cross and go with him per say. And it takes a little bit more than a narrow mind to actually open up your heart and have faith in someone you can't see and touch, at least not in this life. To believe that there is a perfect God, that actually loves every part of my life, even the dirty parts. I think that takes a pretty broad mind don't you think?
please don't force religion down people's throats youtube commenters.. great song but seriously, no one likes narrowminded jesus freaks.. juuuust sayin.
Great it's a Christian band -___- no wonder it's not "famous" cuz their not part of the illuminati
mmmm I love when he says *and I --iiiiii* it's so smexy -33
Please people religion aside. Arguments get people no where, especially youtube ones. Can we not just enjoy the song? Peace!
Honestly, if going to hell means staying with all the awesome people I know, and if going to heaven/being "saved" means staying with all the... Christians... then I will do anything in my power to avoid heaven, for it sounds ten times worse than hell XD
Really, why should I be split up from everyone I know when I die - I live in world's least religious country.
Oh, and imho, Christianity is brainwash...
That aside, I came to hear the song.
this has nothing to do with religion. fuck, WHY does everybody obsess so damned much about religion.
@samattoxify lol says nothing of the sort about god LOL your just interpreting things to spread a false word about a false god
@samattoxify It didn't take me long to believe that I could do anything,
we turn the songs up loud so we can sing
I am true and I am living
We will walk through the valley of the shadow of the boring and burn it all
No we will not go quietly
And I knew that this would happen, it always does
And I couldn't stop my reaction, so I let it come
I let it come
@samattoxify What's it gonna take for me?
I'm on my hands and knees,
while all the poets fill the pages of loose leaf
I feel cheap, and I feel empty
We will bathe in the sea of disbelief, but we will not go quickly.
No we will not die so easily
And I knew that this would happen, it always does
And I couldn't stop my reaction, so I let it come
I let it come
I still hold the belief that we are free,
that we don't need the rules to see
that despite what we've done, we're not alone
@wolfgirl523 damn that hit me like a ton of bricks. thanks<3 i needed to hear that.
God Bless!!!!!!
i love this song! I love how it tells us that we are not alone and that God is with us. I love how it tells you that you dont have to pray and wroship how ppl tell you to. Its something between you and God and that it brings you closer to home
This sucks. God likes Hip Hop and Slayer!
one guy missed the dislike button
@YourfriendHannnah yeah they do, tooh and nail is a christian label
@hichigohirosaki think what you will it is call free will it is your choice to judge but know that what you put out you recieve tenfold and what does it matter one way or the other if you cant do anything about it lol
How about this people, it's music relate to it how you personally see fit. Everyone is different and if we were all the same I wouldn't want to live. If it touches your heart that's beautiful and that is the point of it. It is what it is. There is no hidden meaning unless stated by the creators of the musical piece. Peace Love Unity Respect much love all and enjoy today for tommorrow nevers comes. and to all you haters be it of this band or anything for that matter i hope love finds you.
@samattoxify "he's sinking into an water of regret, ignoring what's in his way, as he piles himself closer to death, and it's far too late OMG that rhymes, haha i should know i'm a song writer myself. that's basically what the third verse means for all the ones that know this isn't a christian band, and isn't using a religion as it's pole to lean on.
NOT A CHRISTIAN BAND. they said so themselves, dude it's music, stop trying to relate it to stuff from the bible, we couldn't care less. It's still music for crying out loud.
and i dont see no first verse this or second verse that, thats all in your mind. -.- i just wanna listen to the music not be taught a lesson here >.<
No matter what religion , country , colour , hobbies we all have, music makes us all the same...
Thumbs up if u agree!!
@samattoxify They're a non claimed Christian band. They don't have a Christian label so they appeal to a wider audience.
godddddddddd i frickin LOVEEEEEEEEEE THIS SONG;LKSADJF;LAKSJD
@oblivx yeah, I do know that only three out of the five members are Christians, it's just been my hunch Matt still isn't ashamed to write somE songs about his faith for a reason. That's just the way I look at it. Just making people do a double take at what any of their lyrics are about, that's what they achieve and I appreciate that.
@xSummerJoyx...idk where youre getting your information ffrom but uhh...The Classic Crime is not a religious band...Matt actually wrote on their discussion board that "3 of the 5 members in the band are Christian. We get that a lot being on a pseudo-Christian label (Tooth & Nail) but no we are not a Christian band" so no, they are not trying to make people think about God..they just enjoy inspiring and happy music, unlike 90% of other bands out there
Muito massa essa música!!!!
@epicweapon actually man can decide what is wrong and what is right by reading the Bible.
I love this song and I think it's fine that people start arguments on many Classic Crime songs, because making people think about God is exactly what the band is going for. Look how well they've done so!(:
Just for all those out there complaining about the religious comments: it comes with the territory. Either ignore it and post your own comment on how awesome/fail you think this band is, or just don't read the comments. There are more important things in life than aggravating about people's beliefs.
you yanks and most of you are are simply over the top,its a great song rocks and I play it at my business and people love it.get a life Im a christian and just love listening to music,God made humans creative, all humans just people add their own messages, get a grip and just enjoy it,go outside and do something in the real world I log on to just punch it(music) thru my stereo , no download limits woohoo
have a good one
God is AWESOME... no matter what anyone says. DO NOT TRESSPASS AGAINST ME! :D
If you do, I forgive you!
i dont kno wat evryone is talking about. how can you hate religion and love jesus??i am a christian and i luv god and all that
@l3lueHavoc didn't really mean to spazz I was just angry and wanted to read more about the music than the meaning of the lyrics.
Meh I regretted posting my comment as soon as i wrote it but cannot seem to find it... Got over the religious comments after i wrote my comment, just needed to let some steam out, if anyone gets what I'm saying please forgive me for my previous comment. Oh and I'm Catholic so don't think it's cause I hate god or something, this is mostly toward Baker5Bunch, Case547, and 13lueHavoc.
Norma Jean wrecks this band.
it's too bad i love this band but i hate religion
I dont get why it bothers people if they talk about religion. Just let them post w.e they want. You dont have to spazz about it :<
this song is fucking sexy and that's all that needs to be said
Why is everyone bringing freaking religion into this? Pardon my french but it is moronic!! It doesn't even freaking matter! If the song is good, rate it and comment about the song, not the bands approach on religion or anything that has to do with religion! It doesn't matter! So shut up about religion! I like the song but I hate these miniature sermons in the comments list. Comments are supposed to be about the song!
why do people even christians speak about Yeshua as if it is another religion.
if the band members are christian, then al that they do would to glorify God.
Yeshua is a Reality in their lives so don't start saying that you just sing about the brokenness of human life when brokeness is obviously the REALITY...
Sounds like by the words of their mouth, this band has denied Jesus himself.
whats wrong with positive themes and inspirational themes? u sound depressed and angry and i'm sorry about that pal.
I don't see why the Christian entertainment industry has to mirror the secular entertainment industry though. Figure out something original with a Christian theme and the secular world might not scoff at the Christian entertainment industry as much as it does.
--It's bad enough that the secular industry already copies itself. Emulating something that already copies itself brings new meaning to the words "contrived pablum".
I know a lot of Christians that will opt to listen to Christian music over all.
It is blatantly obvious that this band is Christian. Alluding to biblical excerpts is one thing, but that on top of nauseating positivity/inspirational themes and imagery pretty much turns the dead horse into paste.
This is fucking garbage regardless though. I won't not listen to something just because it has religious overtones, but this is too much. Complete ChrisRadio tripe. Fucking garbage.
I don't really understand what makes the difference? If they're christian or not. That's not the reason you like them, right?
All my close friends and family are super christians, they go to church 4 times a week and fast. Right now my sister is fasting tv and non christian music. I personally think.... maybe God is just a thought. He's a great thought :D
CRYSTALS!!!!!
Air 1 inside the music is the way I have alot of my favorite songs now, On that same commercial (Well not really commercial) they had the grave digging song and I love that so much..
89.7 the christian rock station dallas tx
I belive that all you have to do is belive in god, even If you dont go to church. I don't see anything about mass in the bible.
when i go to church i feel like a robot. like moving down the line to get the bread and wine.
I love this song, GOD !!!!!
dude...you cant escape reality...war, drugs, rape, etc. still exist in this world even if you do believe in christian lies. but even without god you can have outer body experiences.
oh no! how will we sleep tonight
shut the hell up its an awesome song, not everything has to be lyrically perfect omg Its a great song by some talented lads and pretty positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome. *-*
I heard this on the radio. Took me 20 mins to find on youtube (Didn't know what the name was). Dono how to put it into words. X-)
very much so. yes they are christian. =D
most of the time, 'emo' bands play a genre where the lyrics are usualy very angsty, so its not really emo music thats angsty, its the geren, post hardcore...but emo's not even a genre anymore, since theres pop punk emo bands
"we will walk through the valley of the shadow of the boring." :)
Awesome song. I hope they release an actual video for it. Thanks for posting.
They really sound a lot like Anberlin, a band that I happen to love. Great song.
TCC and Anberlin might as well be married.
