Classic Crime, The - Broken Mess Lyrics
He can't sleep, he can't eat
He keeps thinking about her behind the locked door of her bedroom
As she knowingly tortures the shell that is left of her bridegroom
And what did he do to deserve
This whore of a wife who parades her disgrace to his face now
And all I can say is that
Love is a terrible art, it’s a hook in the heart
That can drag you on broken glass
And as you protest the shards in your flesh
The hook tears out your chest until you’re just a broken mess
Where is God in this rot?
Depraved she commits the most heinous of sins and breaks her vows
But he loves her despite all the crimes she devises in his house
That He’s close to the broken, it's true I have spoken with Him some
When I look in my brother's eyes I can see where his love comes from
And all he can say is that
Love is a terrible art, it’s a hook in the heart
That can drag you on broken glass
And as you protest the shards in your flesh
The hook tears out your chest until you’re just a broken mess
But he has mercy on her lover and does not bleed him dry
A credit to his self control if it were me that monster would probably die
Love is a beautiful thing, she can make your heart sing
When you’re walking on broken glass
She will open your eyes, make your heart feel alive
Point you toward the sunrise
Help you leave all this broken mess behind
Love is a beautiful thing
Will you leave this broken mess behind?

Oh dang. I thought the lyric was "what did he do to deserve this horrible wife" for so long...
this song is about christ... and the whore ...his church... pick up a bible and live.... see you on the other side...with love
awesome song. When someone cheats they don't love you and if you stay with them or forgive them they still never will. Once a cheat always a cheat.
I freaking love this song!
It's half about his brother but mostly about the church's relationship with god and God's willingness to never stop loving us.
is there a link to download this song anywhere????
Whoa... That's awesome. Never thought of it that way. But it makes so much sense!
Seattle show. Aug. 3rd. Showbox at the Market! "PHONIEX" cd release show!!! BE THERE IF YOU CAN!!
@matthewl2554 no its about his brothers wife cheating on him, and thats why in the song he says When I look in my brother's eyes I can see where his love comes from.
@zinnyxx this song depicts a Christian's relationship with the church. A Christian cheating on the church, God, and Jesus with sin.
@zinnyzxx Im pretty sure it's about the lead singers brother
funny how god makes me stumble across this song just as I am giving up from being in the exact situation this song depicts
does anyone know if this song has any influence behind the lyrics? It seems odd for a song like this to not be inspired by a personal event
I just remembered i'm terrified of marriage...
@fluffwalrus That's terrible. I'm so sorry man):
this song..no joke story of my life.
every time it gets to "If it were me that monster would probably die" I want to sing instead of "monster" I want to sing a bad word starting with "B" and ending with "itch"
@beanbag345 Haha Im glad someone got the message behind it!
they sound so different now. but the vocals lyrics are still amazing :)
My son-in-law played this song for me, it about made me cry, my daughter is leaving him for another woman, she is leaving a man that has done everything in the world for her and 2 beautiful babies, 2 months and 14 months, this song describes everything so well
best song ever
@gj2393 6/8 I believe.

Hello panic at the disco! wow! Christian version :D
I like that he is becoming more comfortable with talking about his belief in God.
I honestly am wondering if its really about his brother's marriage,
would he really call her a whore?
I mean it makes sense with the church, or the marriage, still though...
makes me wanna cry D':
@AlmightyMiniman i think the album is amazing!!!!!
@dcd392 Are you sure it is about his brother's marriage? I haven't actually read anything about the meaning of the song but I assumed that when he says -
"When I look in my brother's eyes I can see where his love comes from"
he didn't mean his actual brother but like a 'Brother in Christ'. Like I said, I don't really know, it is just the impression I got form the song. So if you have read something somewhere else that says I'm wrong please feel free to correct me :P
i love songs that tell a story
If this song is about Matt's brother, then his brother must be a mighty man of God.
It kind of reminds me of Derek Webb's Wedding Dress...same kind of analogy of the adulterous bride and the forgiving bridegroom. I do believe it's the best song on Vagabonds!
the music seems a tad off, like static in the backround i think. but this really is an awsome song!!! [buy vagabounds for best quality]
@dcd392 Didn't know that! Thanks! Beautiful song none the less :)
Amazing...what a picture of Christ and the Church, with the defiance of the bride and the incredible patience and mercy the Bridegroom shows even sparing her lover. Then how He urges His bride to leave her broken mess behind...wow, well done.
Best song on the new album. One of my all time favorites from you guys. Very amazing and emotional :)
This...is beautiful. D:
