There are some mistakes in the lyrics. Most significantly, the fourth verse should start, "Hey, British boots gonna kick Bengali in the head. Police ain't watching. The newspaper's been read."

I sort of looking fondly on this track today but in reality, at the time, it was a song by a poor man's Clash with way to 'Americanism's' in the lyrics.

It was all over once they fired Mick, Topper had left and Strummer and Simonon let Bernie get 'creative'. This is just sad. This isn't The Clash. Take it down eh?

just an interesting aside to my 1st warble just here, i now know what the old dear is saying in the intro, tea towels?? I have always thought it was get u pound of potatos!! Seriously folks potatos. Also the reference to the Vincent dropping on the triumph lines and having a motorbike jacket but walking all the time refers to the dyer position the British motorbike industry had fallen to, from producing all the motorbikes in the 50`s and 60`s to jut the triumph in the 80`s and only just. Joe`s walking all the tie cuase theres no british motorbikes anymore!!! Boooo!!

this was the only clash single i ever bought, vowing not to play any music but elvis when he died in 1977, but the incredible homegrown talents of Kate Bush (still the greatest female solo artist) gary Numan and dear old Joe strummer wore that vow down. Good to see it on here so thanks, the original single i bought is long gone. The early 80`s in Britain were desperate times under that bitch Thatcher, the lyrics here give some indication of the lows England had dropped down to, sad sad times. Thanks again

I was disappointed when I bought this in '85 but looking back?  Yep, the music is still poor but Joe's lyrics are still up there.

Pretty awful given all the stuff they wrote prior to this that was just amazing. The Clash never recovered from losing Topper and Mick and became everything they purported to hate. Capitalism, money, greed. Listen to that shitty drum machine - OMG this is crap.
