Clash, The - The Guns of Brixton Lyrics

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell

You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes, even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton

Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game is called survivin'
As in heaven as in hell

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton

  16. Fuga Mundi

has anyone ever noticed there seems to be a wrong chord on this song ?? Listen by 2:25 ... the chord between "guns of Brixton" and 'shot down on the pavement" ... this "mistake" doesn't appear on the rest of the song (at 0:45 for instance) ...... : )

THIS SONG IS A LIVING CREATURE !!! I KNOW FROM THESE TIMES !!

  25. Primitive State

This is the album that gave me my sense of songwriting. Everything I do and what this band does I think is subconsciously done through the lens of London Calling and their self titled album. Specifically in lyric writing. London Calling had such a fantastic way of wording things and I think it is what has made me strive for lyrical perfection as much as I can. Not to say I ever achieve it, but I definitely strive for it. Without The Clash, Primitive State wouldn't exist and that'd make me almost as sad as The Clash not existing. Much love and respect.

  77. Gerard S.

Love the clash, I grew up during a dictatorship but those bastards didn't broke me down

    El Fenomeno

peterkin1010 Bruh what. “Left wing hypocritical twat bags” what are you talking about, and who are you referring to? Not to mention, The Clash were far leftists lol

    El Fenomeno

John Harvey “Communism is dictatorship.” Explain to me how a stateless, classless, moneyless society is a dictatorship? Do not give me examples such as China, or the USSR, or any of its puppet states, because they were all state capitalist. Not to mention, they have had their various successes in areas, while also maintaining atrocities and horrendous flaws in their history. But none of them were socialist/communist, nor has communism ever been achieved. The numbers of the “black book of communism” are clearly inflated, not to mention that communism itself has never been achieved.

    El Fenomeno

gondor532 I mean, first of all, what millions have died, and what “communism” are you referring to. Because again, if you’re referring to the USSR or China, like I said before. Firstly, the casualties are extremely inflated, and many of the “deaths of communism” attributed to the USSR are literally casualties from World War 2. 25 million. Also, Kulaks deserves what they got. Just saying.

    El Fenomeno

gondor532 Now for China, here it goes

“Recently, Jung Chang and Jon Halliday in their book Mao: the Unknown Story reported 70 million killed by Mao, including 38 million in the Great Leap Forward.
Western writers on the subject have taken a completely disproportionate view of the period, mesmerized, as they are, by massive death toll figures from dubious sources. They concentrate only on policy excesses and it is likely that their views on the damage that these did are greatly exaggerated. There has been a failure to understand how some of the policies developed in the Great Leap Forward actually benefited the Chinese people, once the initial disruption was over.U.S. state agencies have provided assistance to those with a negative attitude to Maoism (and communism in general) throughout the post-war period. For example, the veteran historian of Maoism Roderick MacFarquhar edited The China Quarterly in the 1960s. This magazine published allegations about massive famine deaths that have been quoted ever since.”

“It later emerged that this journal received money from a CIA front organisation, as MacFarquhar admitted in a recent letter to The London Review of Books. (Roderick MacFarquhar states that he did not know the money was coming from the CIA while he was editing The China Quarterly.) Those who have provided qualitative evidence, such as eyewitness accounts cited by Jasper Becker in his famous account of the period Hungry Ghosts, have not provided enough accompanying evidence to authenticate these accounts. Important documentary evidence quoted by Chang and Halliday concerning the Great Leap Forward is presented in a demonstrably misleading way. Evidence from the Deng Xiaoping regime Mao that millions died during the Great Leap Forward is not reliable. Evidence from peasants contradicts the claim that Mao was mainly to blame for the deaths that did occur during the Great Leap Forward period.”

@El Fenomeno "I mean, first of all, what millions have died, and what “communism” are you referring to." - well to the one and only. And now "It WaSnT rEaL cOmMuNiSm" isnt an argument.

"irstly, the casualties are extremely inflated, and many of the “deaths of communism”" - no they really arent, as someone living in ex-communist country I can tell you that they are underrated if anything

"Kulaks deserves what they got. Just saying." - sure everyone deserved, children especially.
