Clash, The - Lost In The Supermarket Lyrics
[Chorus]
I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for that special offer
A guaranteed personality
I wasn't born so much as I fell out
Nobody seemed to notice me
We had a hedge back home in the suburbs
Over which I never could see
I heard the people who lived on the ceiling
Scream and fight most scarily
Hearing that noise was my first ever feeling
That's how it's been all around me
I'm all tuned in, I see all the programmes
I save coupons from packets of tea
I've got my giant hit discoteque album
I empty a bottle and I feel a bit free
The kids in the halls and the pipes in the walls
Make me noises for company
Long distance callers make long distance calls
And the silence makes me lonely
[Chorus]
And it's not here
It disappeared
I'm all lost

Clash, The Lost In The Supermarket Comments
crying so hard thinking of my dad...I love you pop and I can't believe we'll never listen to this together again.
I like it and Manon too
most favorite song
This song is really great for an existential crisis, and for my mental health
My favorite song by The Clash. I recently read a user’s review of London Calling on rateyourmusic.com and he said it completely shattered and changed his perception of punk rock forever. For me, when I first heard it, about 20 years ago, I had never really listened to punk before, so instead, it completely shattered and changed my perception of rock music as a whole forever. That fucking brilliant.
Classic and unusual Clash song. Lyrically it could have been written by Polystyrene

unpopular opinion: clash are not very famous and it's shame they aren't
I mean, they're one of the most renown puck bands ever, "Rock The Casbah" and "Should I stay or Should I go now?" are pretty well known, and this album is considered one of the best of all time by critics. For a band that's been defunct for ~35 years now, that's pretty good!
@Joseph Corridon they're know just for that two songs
@Kenneth Lee I used to hear train in vain, guns of Brixton, and London calling with some frequency in the radio
Me in the ikea
Don't you just hates when that happens ?
Who is listening this i November 2019
Yeah bro
Listening on Black Friday on purpose.
december 2 2019, even
December 16, 2019
I remember my sophomore year english teacher claimed this song was a statement about the bourgeois
"I'm lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
Came in hete for a special offer
Down with the bourgeois"
Best possible socialist title for the song.
I don't know why but 1979 was s great year for music. This album carried several classics like this one. It sure doesn't sound like a 40-year song.
Sounds like everytime I go into a IKEA.
I get ikea ptsd from this song
I'm sorry to hear that.
Object Class: Euclid
This sounds sick at .75 and 1.25
But the sickest is noraml, have a nice day😌
The only band that mattered.
And still does ;)
voll geil :-P ^^ lost in the supermarket :-P^^ hihi ... i found the orange juice ...
listens to this at 0.75 speed and dissociates
One of those songs that has an undeniably catchy tune, but when you examine the lyrics as well as the context of the songwriting, it’s actually pretty depressing. Amazing song.
They played this at food city in Galax, VA lol, I had to share that
If you thumbs down this music you have no clue what real music is all about
Got lost in asda supermarket at carcroft once.....terrifying!!!
I don't know why I am commenting this here but I fucking hate Green Day.
I wish the clash had a lot more songs like this but I do love the other stuff they've put out either way, just much punchier. Know any good similar songs or lesser known bands with similar style to this?
Really paints the picture. Doesn't it do it most scarily ? Guess who really wrote this song.
Joe strummer?
Over the hedge
I have this in my head every time I go shopping .....
It could just as well prevent you from going shopping.
i came from joe
The uncertainty of this song reminds me of what it's like living with social anxiety and depression.
why it reminds you that? it's not about it
@Kenneth Lee I think that's a legit interpretation. Crazy consumerism in our societies surely is a good friend of depression. You don't matter as a person because the point of the world you live in is to make money and buy things. At first you think you're happy because you have material things, but then you begin to understand that life is more than that and that you can't buy happiness/serenity with money. After that epiphany, it's easy to fall in a state of chronic depression, which is due to our without-morals and capitalistic society.
@Tatiana Williams yes i think so
Kenneth Lee Not related, but great profile pic \m/
@Tatiana Williams thanks even thought i was loking for changing it
Who else came to listen to this to compare this to Ben Folds' cover from Over the Hedge?
Jesus Christ I am so glad that dumb little animation showed me this amazing song, I love it so much, Thanks dog of wisdom dude
Very relevant song rn
Grand statement of alienation by our Mick
Best song ever
Love the clash
0:46 "We had a hedge back home in the suburbs, over which I never could see" I bet Mick Jones took this line from The Wages of Fear film.
Joe Strummer wrote it.
Me at 5 years old
One of the Clash's best songs and imo One of the best songs of all time
walking thru the grocery store i kind of wanted this song played over the shitty speakers they had
but no it played 2000's pop
true hell
I think a song about the emptiness of consumerism doesnt sell product
Who else is happy this is a animation
My childhood :(
I wish I could hit the like button as many times as I wanted to!
Mick Jones is the greatest guitarist of all time. A guy who served the music and never showed off rather than innovated.
In my humble opinion Randy Rhoads holds that offer
I wasn't born as much as I fell out - what a line, some of Joe's lines rival that of Dylan, the number of various styles similar (but not quite their) to the likes of Beatles, political message with timeless music = The Only Band that Matters.
On a Sunday afternoon can't get better what a day 👍
Best song from "the Clash".
*The Song of Merry Christmas and December.*
the warmest, the dearest
the clash! <33333
comme je comprends.... cette song song.... bref, chacun, sa story, in France !!! Not the same for me.... galérienne....
Ben Folds brought me here
Why have I only just discovered this amazing song?
Classy Clash song.
Only real people know "IN THE MARKET"
The best clash song
I’m so proud that the clash made it playing this on an little tape player when it first came out
Like a fine wine.
Kinda glad this is underrated
My fav. of the Clash! really love it!
Forgot about this tune until I heard in the Budgens round the corner
Over the hedge lol
Ben bunları nasıl yeni keşfettim
i love the clash sm this is amazing
The first Emo song.
die please
The amount of stupid I see
[Chorus]
I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for that special offer
A guaranteed personality
I wasn't born so much as I fell out

fucking beautiful song, the clash are fucking epic, I think underrated in many ways, and Joe Strummer we need you and miss you dearly.
my theme song
I'll play this out loud next time when I go to Food4Less and can't find what I'm looking for :v
I thought I heard every Clash song. I never knew they were so oblivious to marketing. Looks like everyone likes coupons. Aspie at the store.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must have listened to this 600 - 1,000 times in high school. It had come out 2-3 years prior, and I felt so disconnected to my parents who were such perfectionists. I really appreciate this song.
Good songs were made broke by the Clash and nothin' after-wards! :))
