Clash, The - Broadway Lyrics

"It ain't my fault
It's 6 'o'clock in the morning"
He said
As he came up out of the night

When he found I had no coins to bum,
He began to testify
Born in a depression
Born out of good luck
Born into misery
- In the back of a truck..

I'm telling you this mister
Don't be put off by looks
I been in the ring and I took those right hooks

Oh the loneliness
Used to knock me out - harder than the rest

And I've worked for breakfast
'N I ain't had no lunch
I been on delivery and received every punch

Suddenly I noticed that it weren't quite the same
Feel different one morning maybe it was the rain

But everywhere I looked all over the city
They're runnin' in an out of the bars
Someone stopped for a pick-up driving one of those cars
Y'see I allways wanted one of those cars
Long black 'n shiny an' pull up to the bars
Honk your horn, put down your windows, push yer button,
Hear it coming in
You can say I can see the light... roll!
Forward! Drive! Green lights! Green lights!
Intersection city coming a running comeback home I run back
Not that strong now
Yes who's there now, can I help you? Calling Intel station light

Did you put your money in? Yes I put it in
It say go, I say go, she say go, so we say go
Cos I can see the light all night tonight this night right now
Coming on forward motion across the ocean
An' up the hills yeh boys let's strike for the hills
While that petrol tank is full
Gimme a push gimme a pull
Gimme a llama gimme a mule
Gimme a donkey or gimme a horse

Down the avenue
So fine
In style

This song seem fishy for gay fish and some weird tongue thing.

  7. P.... W....

Absolute stone cold unrecognised rock classic.

Growing up late 70’s early 80’s we lived near Chicago and saw some absolute blues greats. John Lee Hooker, Sonny Terry Brownie Mcghee, BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins and many more. To this day I don’t think any one of them put me in a place like Joe Strummer did in
    Broadway.

    "It ain't my fault
It's six 'o'clock in the morning"
    He said

When he found I had no coins to bum,

Damn the only one ever to make you feel like the streets is Joe Strummer with those versus, lyrics, music, and instruments. The deep reggae cymbals with an eerie guitar backround and piano rhythm one drop that drives the song??!!?? One of the greatest songs ever man and the piano is awesome!!! It builds slowly then hit the heights when he gets “the money in”

AND at the end you get a GUNS OF BRIXTON rendition from a child with an awesome, cute voice??!!?? Who does that? None other than “The only band that matters”!
    Sandinista had:

Magnificant Seven (Top 5 Clash song IMO)

Broadway one of the most underrated Clash songs of all time

Charlie Don’t Surf Cmon man everyone likes Charlie Don’t Surf

A Waltz? The Rebel Waltz! What a cool haunting waltz man! I could dance to that with full blown English attire at a ball!

Mikey Dread with back to back reggae, DUB, and toasting (the original rap!) One More Time

OMG Corner Soul with Ellen Foley background lyrics…Haunting war song. Awesome!

Lets Go Crazy! Phenomenal portray of street carnival political views from back in the day and so well done! Love the steel drums!!!

Police on my back! Classic Clash!

The Call Up! This is just a ballsy call out to society to say no to the draft (Political Clash at its best!)

Kingston Advice…Street Parade. Pure awesome bass driven, steel drums, drums and where did they get this stuff?

Did I mention the mixing? Freakin Phenom. There is not a rap brother on the planet that can mix like this Amazing the entire Album!!!

What can I say call it what you will Sandinista has some bad filler music yes I agree! However, it also has some of the best music I have ever experienced! Enjoy!

    M.... G....

Matt Grant couldn't have said it better myself. this album is on another plain

    M.... G....

"where did they get this stuff?"
That's exactly, what I've been wondering for a long time!
There really is many genius elements in this album!
Though I don't agree every political views with Joe Strummer, there's not too much trouble for me to sympathise his lyrics.

    M.... G....

When they kick at your front door..aaah the guns of brixton

  13. M.... W....

there was nothing else like the clash I was lucky enough to see her first show in the states and then another seven times after that they loved the Bay Area and by all the records on Imports because I couldn't wait for the domestic release real rebel music and I don't think I ever paid more than $5 to see them except when they open for The Who and that was $10 Fuck corporate Rock

  14. M.... D....

Really evokes the feeling of being on Broadway at six in the morning, even today.

  15. J.... B....

I think another problem was everybody was looking for a follow-up to London Calling but got something entirely different indeed which caused a backlash of criticism towards this album.

    J.... B....

+Darnell Major Fair enough so I guess we are at a stalemate cause there was nothing boring about the album ...the same was said about Combat Rock with some calling it a "sellout" album as far as Clash albums are concerned. ...oh well it was sure good having this debate with you my brother.

    J.... B....

This is a magnificent album, easily Clash's best but each to their own.

    J.... B....

Just as the White Album suffered at first because it wasn't another Sgt Pepper.

    J.... B....

    You got my point Mr.Watts

    J.... B....

Music moves on, evolves, organically grows. This is a great album.

  16. J.... B....

Songs like "Broadway" made SANDINISTA! more valuable than it got credit for and for the price they sold it for back in the day made this album better than the credit it has received. ..to me this album was slept on and still is to this day

  17. T.... B....

A gem for sure.across the hills!

  18. T.... B....

    III CAN SEE THE😄LIGHTS!!!

  19. J.... ....

    So fine
    In style

  20. P.... X....

"Gimme a push, gimme a pull,
gimme a llama, gimme a mule,
gimme a donkey or gimme a horse,
    yeah, yeah, yeah...."
    Rock in Peace, Joe.....

    P.... X....

    It's lamb, not llama.

  21. s.... o....

Not, thee, but one of my favourites of all times.

  22. M.... ....

a great gem on an album people look down upon.

    M.... ....

Not Me.Always been my favorite from The Clash !!! I remember buying it at Record Head the day it was released. How time flies..........

    M.... ....

This song fades just when it gets into its stride. Needed to be two minutes longer. Would have got noticed more at 7 minutes as well.

  23. S.... Y....

Just how f***ing good is this?

    ... Brilliant!

    S.... Y....

there isn't enough A's in Awesome.Joe's runnin' all them green lights,oh yeah,we all love and miss you!God damn
    it!

  24. c.... ....

They opened live shows with this song, everyone was expecting a rocker....
    It worked really well......
