Clash, The 1977 Comments
Punk we need you to come back, music industry needs to be shook one again
Yeap, this song is not in the first album.
The original one, lolol. Maybe in the USA version.
But thanks for the upload, it was the 2nd song released by the band. The b-side of the first single. And what a single.
If only they mattered as much as Elvis Presley...or the Beatles
in 1977 youre on the never never. you think it cant go on forever but the papers say its betterI DONT CAREEEE....CUZ IM NOT ALL THERE no elvis beatles or the rollin stones IN 1977777
Shit🤣
mejor tema
Opening riffs sound A LOT like "All Day and All Of the night" by The Kinks.
No Elvis Beatles or the rolling stones lol love this song. Gauntlet thrown down.
In 1977 it isn't lucky to be rich - the rich are not superior, but they are entitled. It is not luck.
THE CLASH.
In 1979 unemployment was already approaching 1.5 million in the U.K.
This track is summing up punk in less than 2 minutes. The Clash were genuises. Best punk track ever.
I,'m still listening this song
Fuckin aye!
We carry the torch for 1977 punk- NO PLACE TO PISS ☠️
It ain't lucky to be rich...that is a myth. It's karma.
In 2018 no Clash. I guess everyone fades... LOL
Funerals In The Rain not yet
Good song uber good ××××××
U redu je...
The meaning of this song is being highly underestimated here. This song isn't about Elvis or the Stones or even Punk. This song is about a Rastafarian prophecy that predicted the fall of Babylon to be in 1977. In the Rastafarian Iyalic language Babylon means our society of materialism, capitalism, corruption, decadence, etc.
Where did you hear this?
THE DUDE4K marcus garvey prophesied that 1977 would be a year of judgement. reggae band Culture knew this when they wrote 'two sevens clash', punk band Clash knew this when they wrote '1977'.
Tony Benn spoke of the "luck of inheritance". It is not luck.
i come out of borstal 77 and had a weeks home leave just missed the silver jubilee but i come out to this music and the clash was the number one band for me and still are of that time great lyrics with a meaning
The Clash 1977 (Animation Experimental Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reY1eYpLY2U
One of the best b-sides ever
This song and Londons Burning were the two songs that got The Clash to be my fav band from the start.
What's w/ the beatles?
Since the beatles elvis and the stones were pretty much the 3 biggest names in rock (at least up until 1977), that is why they were singled out in the lyrics, is my guess.
Thumbs up if your listening to this in 2027
It"s "you're," for god's sake.
No shit man.
Since that would mean you managed to time-travel 10 years into the future, maybe you can give us some good news to look forward to as well? lol
im listening from 1847.....sounds superb ! what a band
1977. What a fucking great year to be a teen at art college.
This has a more raw sound then most clash songs
@Noodles37UK I'm 10.The only music I like is from the '60s-late '80s
@Henry Crowell why are you allowed on youtube at 10
THE DUDE4K late response lmao
I’m 13 lol
@Henry Crowell well either way
aye thats when they were playing to America lol ......was effortless when they put their heads together regardless of the date catch em right.....oh boy
Fulham Broadway, October 1976. The Clash are playing support to cult band Roogalater,
so I go along to see them with my friend Gary. Joe Strummer is at the bar with Mick Jones
taliking about the setlist. I summon up my courage to speak to Joe, and I asked him when they were going bring out their album. He smiled at me, and said "When we are good
enough".
They came onstage and were fantastic, especially on "I'm So Bored With The USA".
Joe Strummer was a true gentleman. The Clash were a great, great live band.
+Rob Jones great story. Thank you for sharing it!
Elvis, the Beatles and the Stones were all still alive when this song was made (in 1977, of course).
WedgePee Yes but "Beatles" as a concept died in 1969, Elvis was doing slurry Vegas entertainment gigs and the Stones had certainly had their day... I think Joe and Mick meant they had gone in a more figurative way
They meant 'fuck 'em'. Nothing good left from them, let's have no more.
Easy.
A very adamant “Out with the old, in with the new”
The Clash defined the essence of the raw power of punk in the seventies. Their track 1977 also reminds me of The Kinks track All Day & All The Night. Gary Busey nailed it right on the spot.Cool that you recognized the similarity of the chord progression, Gary!!!
the soundtrack our lives... punk rock yeah
@Emiliano Ortega-Guerrero AWESOME
Every time I hear the intro I think of All Day and All of the Night by The Kinks
Lol i thought i was the only one who felt the same
came here just after the Kinks!!! 😁
Good source to lift from....
It's like that song slammed into a brick wall and made this
♪♫ All day and all of the night ♫♪
Good thing for us that American Shel Talmy came along and produced the Kinks so that then 12 year old Joe Strummer listening to All Day and All of the Night could grow up, form the Clash, rip off the Kinks and ironically sing how his Clash sounded so much different than music played 13 years before.
Punk rock = three-chord, early 60s rock and roll played with distorted guitars often with early adulthood angst lyrics and often played at fast tempo.
Joe Strummer was a bit of a tosser, quite a bit in fact. He was such a tosser that he tossed Mick Jones from the band and then proceeded to produce the crap known as Cut the Crap.
The Rolling Stones were around in 1977. What made The Clash think that they faded away. They were recording Some Girls that year. There may have not been many listeners of the Stones then but I remember driving my truck around Brandon, Manitoba listening to the Black and Blue album on my 8 Track in my under dash unit. I have no hate for The Clash but I proved them wrong. I actually did have The Clash on 8 Track.
the stones died in 74 the who died in 1978 with moon elvis pretty good too they put out good stuff in there early days but by 1977 they sucked at least the beatles broke up before they started to suck
Sorry the Stones died in 1982 , don't be too wicked
Yeah, the Stones really sucked in the eighties, but even they admitted that they started Sucking in the Seventies.
yeah, Tattoo You was a GREAT album
Everyone.... the Stones were BORING by 1977. Just listen to Love You Live to get the bands' point.
Some Girls was good though. And Tattoo You later on was too.
Irshad Husain Some Girls & Tattoo You were awesome
Fuck the stones overrated
Ironically, Punk Bands like The Clash must have acted as a wake up call to The Rolling Stones because their next album Some Girls show them considerably reinvigorated and taking cues from Punk Rock.
Untasted beauties of music available on my channel. (Playlist part)
Without Elvis, Stones and The Beatles,... no clash
Am I sure about what? I am sure that rock and roll wasn't born much less born in 1920. I'm also sure that Elvis was a cover artist. I'm also sure that about 10% of all songs Elvis recorded on his first five albums were songs written by the originators of rock and roll, Leiber and Stoller.
Rock and roll is an offshoot of Jump Blues, also known as West Coast swing.
Again, did you read the article? It doesn't seem so.
Most have opinions about things and almost always most lack facts to support their opinions. Thus, their opinions are little more than superstition.
Good luck!
@***** It got boring by the mid 70s. I always mention Love You Live by the Stones for classic lethargy and outstanding jadedness.
+melande1966 without MC5 and stooges, no ramones... no clash
I guess you are not fresh on classic rock history.
Tf you mean? Did obama tell you that?
lets all agree on what eddie van halen said. no matter how fast you make, what cords you use, acoustic or electric does't matter it all ROck n Roll as long as you don't change the attitude, the way it played, the independence, and try to make your "own" muisc, without any rock roots, than it not rock. So punk and metal and hard rock are all Rock n Roll
Bob The Pumpkin yup!
if it wasn't for the stones. iggy pop and the stooges, would never made music so punk would probably never made it that far
this song could just as easily be about 2013
no it is not on either album..it is the b side of White Riot
Also is on compilation LP "Crucial Music".
Yeah, just tell me : Where are the Clash ??? Who cares about Mick Jones, Topper Headon and Paul Simonon ? I hate these guys who want to destroy everything... What annoys you so much is to see that the Stones are still on tour, in 2013 !!!
Many of us are still fans of the band, even if they no longer are together.
Who cares?
Is this song on the U.K. version of s/t? I have the U.S. version of the C.D., and it's not on there.
The Rolling Stones are still around as a franchise, as a plc money making machine, but they haven't been around as a musical force for years. Their last decent album was in 1972- most of their stuff since then has been total shit. Also, their ticket prices are a fucking disgrace, considering how rich and past it they are. The average pub band sounds better than the Stones these days.
Maybe you should look into the history of the clash. They were the first franchise band. It was established as a brand, primarily. The members and the music were secondary and interchangeable. The Stones formed and thrived organically. Yeah they make a ton of money but that was not their reason to exist.
I mean that the Clash split up in 1983, did they put out something good since then ? The Stones are still rocking, and they are a legend, that's what they are, no matter what they've put out in years...
What do you mean where are the clash? Joe Strummer died years ago, you're a moron. The rolling stones haven't put out anything good for a long time
the Stones have been irrelevant since 1975
punk's not dead, it's trendy
I like the Rolling Stones and Punk. But Punk more.
ROLLING STONES
@danstrikeeagle your the man. we dont want no gangboss
the toilet dont work ?...i dont care cos im not all there...in 2012.
shows how much you know huh :)
@beatles61 Well, OK ! Have a nice day !
@danstrikeeagle I'm sorry, I didn't mean to lashout, I just really despise the stones (all around) I feel bad now... but none the less... everyone seems to have there own determined time punk was 'Golden' I consider it '92 - 02'
because that is when underground scenes were a community (in punk and rap alike) and I feel that is more alive than being popular
Fuck the rolling stones
@beatles61 I will just tell ya that I don't agree with you. I won't insult you, tell you you're stoopid or something. I just noticed that Strummer was wrong, the Stones are still around in 2011. I admit that some punks bands still exist, still play, but they are not so pouplar as they used to be. Punk's golden years were 1975 -1978. In fact, I got "Never mind the bollocks..." and "London Calling" and they 're not bad at all.
@danstrikeeagle Punk isn't dead, a lot of great punk bands still exist and continue to form, I go to shows every once and a while and I see a very populated scene (and these people go to see local crusties not popular pop punk). When people like you say punk is it dead it just shows that no one really gives an effort to actually see these bands. And another thing, the rolling stones are a bunch of druggy dip shits, who cares if they are still around (or surpassed the class)
beatles61 mainstream kills art, better for punk to be flourishing underground.
In 2011, the Stones are still rolling... and where are the Clash ? If I remember well, they split up in 1983 or so... Punks have always made me laugh a lot !!! Punk died 33 years ago... RIP
fuck off
fucking Clash. the only band that ever fucking mattered!
this song is fucking awesome
