Clark, Petula - The Windmills Of Your Mind Lyrics
Round
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
In the autumn of goodbyes
For a moment you could not recall
The colour of his eyes
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Clark, Petula The Windmills Of Your Mind Comments
Pet Clarks version is so moving.
This song creeps me the **** out
ولا فاهم كلمة من الاغنية ولا من التعليقات يعجبني اللحن فقط 🙃🙂
This voice... I'm melting
Why this version no on Apple Music ...?
Killing then softly brought me here
Les moulins de mon coeur. Michel Legrand
Petula Clark's singing style is rather folkish and meandering kind of angst. At least it is rather faithful to the original version - Dusty's arrangement is slowed down to a rather punkish kind of angst after some mishaps over how the Memphis band would play such a foreign piece by Michel Legrand.
Simply stated. This is the best version that I've ever heard of this song. Simply magnificent for such a great song.
Voice of an angel if they existed which only idiots believe they do.

Round.
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending on beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
a half-forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping

Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of a song

But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
You were suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of his hair?
Like a circle in a spiral Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind.

Unbelievable, I still wasn't alive then, but I swear I heard this tune from heaven. Saint Laurent SELF03, thank you.

Rest in Peace Mr Legrand! another good one is gone!
Rest in Peace Michel Legrand.
The best version of this song I love Dusty but the tempo and the right amount of angst blows this one out of the park
Nothing of the kind. Only French version of this song is the best - " Les Moulins De Mon Coeur" . And nobody can perform that song better, than Frida Boccara...
Wonderful
It's wierd to hear it without the pops and skips from my old vinyl record.
Красиво поет женщина.
I like the muppets version best.
Petula Clark is one of the few singer-storytellers capable of weaving a storyline note after note.
Najlepszy jest jednak ten orginał. Nikt tego chyba nie powtórzy głosu i tamte brzmienie instrumentów.
I was searching for you petula ....for a while
Best...version...ever. Period!
@wafaa Merzouk , you better heard Sting's version. Even Neil Diamond.
@Call Me Joker 69 I like this version much more than the Sting's. And from what I heard (around a dozen of most popular versions on YouTube) this one is the best. Don't try to argue, it's a subject of taste 😉
@Shaman , yeah! it's a subject of taste. My prefer version is Dusty in female and Sting in male.
yes. sting's and b.straisend's versions e.g. sound kind of narcisstic
3 Card Molly
I love Petula, but Dusty Springfield's and Noel Harrison's versions from that era are way better.
Petula Clark & Barbara Streisand are both great singer

Why the hell isn't this version on Spotify or apple music? Literally the only version of this song I like
Unlike alot of the other versions of this... Clark really tells a story with her notes - like she's recalling a memory.
It’s more passionate than the others versions. There’s a jubilation and excitement that climaxes and soars and then floats back down again.
@Belzedar Great description... It's almost as if Petula is being directed... like in a movie.
Dusty & Sting versions are best... and rest is just garbage...
The Dusty Springfield version sucks.
Petula Clark's version is the best for this song! Love it!
Heysem Kaya Her vibrato is kinda nervous here sometimes.
@paxwallacejazz and yet it's the best version in my opinion too
Superb!
Must say in my opinion it's a toss-up as to who's version of this song is better Dusty Springfield's is also great.. I love them both !!!! _ Tom B - Delaware..
Beautifully done !!!

I also what to be in the club
But I wouldn't join a club that would accept me as a member...;)
Bret Easton Ellis podcast brought me here
Once in a while you hear a song in a movie that has a melody and heart, then you search YouTube and there's a club.
That scene with this music gave me goosebumps on my balls
I love Petula Clark! I used to listen to my parent's old records when I was a teen.
Fonderfull sång♥♡
+Tarja Auvinen I like it a lot too
Beautiful!
+Carolina Rodriguez Amazing song and performance indeed!
