It's kind of weird in the late 60's and early 70's anybody would release a cover of your song. I guess if the cover did better than the original at least the song author can be comforted by more money.

Probably my favourite version of this stunning Bacharach and David number.

Timeless and sexy but done so classy

This is romantic music, unlike the crap put out today.

I wonder what man could say no to a girl like Petula who sang to him like that.  Her voice is so nice feminine and good it would be very hard to resist her.

Nice feminine version of this song originally sung by Herb Alpert as "This guy is in love with you". Nice to hear in Petula's amazing voice.

There is a memory that this song had been listening in the song of Dionne Warwick before. At the CD of Sweet Melodies it was Petula Clark, so I was dissatisfied at first. However, while listening several times, I was totally captivated by the charm of that singing voice. This person, who must play the role of the wife of Professor Chips at the movie "Mr. Chips' Good-bye" played by P. O'Toole. There seems to have been some point of somewhere in the face. It is not due to that, but there was a bit of a sex appeal, and there was cleanliness not going to Coquetry, so it was a charming person.
Regardless, singing is truly amazing. A lovely girl's love that fell in love with a lovely boy is sung by a sweet and glossy smooth voice.
The song is exciting from My hands are shaking, the last phrase ends with if not I'll just die. Like the darkness of the stage. And one moment of silence. It is a feeling that a sad sadness accompanying love comes out of songs like silk. Expression power around here, that would be the fascination of Bacharach songs. Even so, it is truly lucky to meet with Mr. Chips' wife in this song.

この曲は以前ディオンヌ・ワーウィックの歌で聴いていた記憶がある。スウィート・メロディーズのCDではペチュラ・クラークだったので、最初は不満だった。ところが何度か聴くうちに、その歌唱と声の魅力にすっかり虜になってしまった。この人、たしかP・オトゥールが演じた映画「チップス先生さようなら」で、チップス先生の妻役を演じた人だはず。たしか顔のどこかにホクロがあったような気がする。そのせいでもないけど、ちょっと色気があって、しかもコケットリーまでいかない清潔さがあって、ようするにチャーミングな人だった。
　それはともかく、歌のほうも、ほんとうにすばらしい。素敵な男の子に恋した少女（昔風にいえば乙女）の切ない恋心が、甘く艶を帯びた滑らかな声によって、歌われる。
曲はMy hands are shaking（私の手は震えてるわ）から盛り上がって、最後のフレーズはif not I'll just die(そうじゃなければ私きっと死んでしまうわ）で尽きる。舞台の暗転のように。そしてサイレント（沈黙）の一瞬間。胸がキューンとなってしまう。恋心にともなう、そこはかとない哀しみが、シルクのような歌をつむぎだしたって感じだ。このあたりの表現力、それがバカラックソングの魅力だろう。それにしてもこの歌で、チップス先生の奥さんにめぐり会えるなんて、ほんとにラッキー。
