Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Untitled (Ritual) Lyrics

With the hail that sounds stiffly
On this fragile, old mountain
A Mexican ritual like coins in a fountain
And I'm apologizing, apologizing for being here

North of Teotihuacan, Temple Moon and Sun
Would sit immigrant flower protecting what's left
Of his dangerous hipness,
His unshakable disbelief

But a candle, it is lit
With the fire from the spit
While the Americans all go running naked around a tree
There's nothing stranger than what's here
And I'm in danger, I fear,
Of the world becoming a little too weird for me

I could call upon New York, could call upon London
Digesting peyote with a stomach all shrunk
Like an ambassador humming to a native drum drumming
Boom-beep

Or like a crazy, dead elephant who didn't trust the water
I'm thinking of ways now to forget the slaughter
For truth holds the hand of a foreign land
But an American don't need no more company

Fast approaching opinion
On the runway a plane lands
And let's off a herd, which desires destination
But goes jumping from stone to stone to stone to tree

And when home across the border, this fast food reporter
Writes words like a vampire
And he slurs for a short while
And he sums it all up, it's the meat from the pup that's intriguing

And a candle, it is lit
With the fire from the spit
While the Americans all go running naked around a tree
There's nothing stranger than what's here
And I'm in danger, I fear,
Of the world becoming a little too weird for me

To have them "solve it" for you, is to silence you. To become only the voiceless. To solve it, is to silence...

  10. M.... P....

  11. M.... P....

tbh its kinda funny that in the 10+ years theyve been a band theyre still playing a set of songs exclusively from their debut

    M.... P....

They were doing a an anniversary tour of the first album. They're really good at having a good mix of songs usually.

    M.... P....

Also as a person who wasn't a huge fan of their later albums, I REALLY like the newest album

  12. M.... K....

  23. M.... ....

Their self-titled is a must, a modern classic. Glad to see them at Plaza Condesa, MX.

  24. K.... S....

I missed their most recent concert in my area and was pretty bummed to have missed it, but I've seen them before a few times and it was always great.  This almost makes up for it, though.

    K.... S....

Kayleigh Saum CYHSY on tour dates right now. New album drops in a Week. it's a Must Listen. A Masterpiece like all the others.

  25. F.... F....

  28. P.... D....

I love it until the guy starts singing

    P.... D....

    hahahahaha I thought the same

    P.... D....

+Andrew Schiantarelli I had it in a background tab and thought it must have been Chrissie Hynde singing!

    P.... D....

    +Mr. Chopper
I can totally hear it! But she has an incredible voice... rich and powerful yet feminie and lovely. I really like this band but Alec's vocals leave something to be desired...and I'm a fan of atypical voices that aren't characteristically melodic, smooth or polished... the quintessential example being Dylan, of course, with current exemplary notables [to include] deep and dark subject matter of evocative raw emotion coupled with the (often sad) musings of amazingly talented singer-songwriters the likes of Conor Oberst, Jeff Mangum and Thom Yorke, to name but a few. And yes, I concede, that is a hella long run-on sentence I wrote back there......Wheeeeeeeee!!! :) Geeeez, why can't I write for Rolling Stone?!?!

    P.... D....

his voice gives the songs a lot more personality i think, it never sounds out of tune but kinda wild

  29. M.... K....

    Awkward start!

  30. L.... A....

Good band !! would be a great band with a horn section.

  31. l.... ....

This pushes "whining in a mike" to a whole new level! Sounds cool though, even though the bass is too low in the mix (as is often the case with KEXP)

  32. R.... C....

Love the first album. just sad they haven't made anything like/better than it.

    R.... C....

in my opinion, they did record great stuff after the first album too! but I think they were trying not to repeat the exacy same style, and tried new things...but the first album is indeed a classic!
