How can someone know by ear if a song requires capo or not? Is that something you begin to notice and are able to tell once you've transcribed enough songs by ear? This transcribing songs by ear is killing me.

Most of the time a capo is used to accommodate a person's vocal range. Whether or not something sounds better in a different key is just something you'll have to develop.

youve just gotta be able to hear the bass notes, listen for the open low E string. if it sounds higher than E theres usually a capo.

I usually try to sing it how they do & switch around while playing, that helps me out. or just watch a vid of them playing, or ultimateguitartabs. one of those should do the trick

Good luck man, cus Dallas uses some really weird ass tunings sometimes. Some songs that sound like he just capo'd a fret could actually be him tuning it really funky actually. Just look at the tuning for Save your Scissors...fucking weird haha

Haven't heard this particular song since 2009! Back then it was on replay constantly but at some point the slow melody just kind of depressed me and I moved on. But oh man it's an oldie but a goodie! Totally in love with it again :))
