Church, Eric - Mistress Named Music Lyrics
I still remember Miss Bessie singing
Black, wrinkled fingers on ivory keys
Just five years old, my church shoes a-dangling
Yeah, she's long gone and I'm still chasing this song
That nightlife full of demons has been a hell of a ride
I got a crazy heart, but I was born to lose it
Married to a dream with a mistress named music
No hope and squarely solitary
Enough whiskey and Coke, boys, to get me in a bind
Amps juiced, the whole damn block could hear me
Even that cop car rolling past
By the time they hit the front door
I was out the back
With a guitar full of freedom and a head full of lines
That nightlife full of demons has been a hell of a ride
I got a crazy heart, and I was born to lose it
Married to a dream with a mistress named music
White calloused fingers on bronze and nylon
These same old boots are still tapping time
Not quite the buzz I used to tie on
But 'til I'm gone, I'll be chasing this song
With a guitar full of freedom and a head full of lines
That nightlife full of demons has been a hell of a ride
I got a crazy heart, and I was born to lose it
Married to a dream with a mistress named music
Yeah, I'm married to a dream with a mistress named music

Church, Eric Mistress Named Music Comments
Eric Church is the "Baddest Man" in country music...hands down!!!
This is exactly how a song is supposed to be written and performed. This is country and rock and beautiful. Thanks for this entire album, Eric.
How did you fags steel my music c u in court Doug OShea
Doug OShea aka Jamie joned
This song is a masterpiece!
First time I had heard this one was when it was live at the bluesfest a few weekends back in Ottawa. instantly loved it.
What a beautiful song! Hands down gave me chills. Head phones in, volume all the way up and my mind just drifts! I just love music that gives you that feeling..something I can’t explain.
What a voice.
He's gotta do more songs like this. So much of his stuff is really well produced, with all these different things going on.
I think he's the best with just a guitar or some piano.
that nightlife full of freedom married to a mistress, call addiction who de who
Eric Church, you are growing on me, kind sir :) #EnjoyYou
Great song as all he does!
Married to a Dream
With A Mistress Named Music...💔It’s a curse and blessing Friends🙏❤️🙏
Wish we had more songs like this..
Love this song. It is to my ex
Church always makes me feel better
Am I the only one who feels like all his songs tell his life story... think about it
Eric Church is an amazing talent. His female back up has an awesome voice.
He's just awesome
Eric church is one of the greatest hands down
This is the song I used to introduce my dad to Eric church and his muzik
😶😶😶😶😶😶
For me, this song & Mr. Misunderstood remind me so much of my dad.
Wow Increable lyrics. He is a Springsteen fan and it shows. Strip away the music and the words are poetic. A country Jungle Land. Eric along with Chris Staplton and Stugill Simpson help me hold on to hope for the future of country music.
2:00 👌🏻
Loving this man's voice....WOW!
Should have been CMA Entertainer of the year 2017.
Agreed 100%
Eric is a poet and one of the most unparalleled artists of the modern generation. This is by far his most under-appreciated work of art! What a masterpiece!
cameron mason since I’m President of Ohio union of poets and have written songs myself, I agree. Eric is a genius at wordplay, which sets him apart from all writers of music. He is my favorite artist!
Hell yea!!
incredible song...incredible performance live in Tampa a few weeks ago!

last night in Greensboro this song set the crowd on fire
I'm always busting on new country and how it sucks. This song right here might make me eat my words.
It's amazing what music has done for me. I can relate so much to Eric Church. He doesn't sing to be a star, He sings to touch people. To help them. This life is a dark and scary roller coaster, and all you can do is sit tight and hold on for dear life. Keep on doing what you're doing Chief. It doesn't go unnoticed. 🤘✊

If him and kip Moore wrote together it would set the world on fire, but I'm a diehard kip fan, but this is one of my fav songs ever
Hey eric.. How about you live the songs.. i'll start writing and performing them... nevermind.. that would make me a fake piece of shit like you... Good luck man..
Assclown
Fantastic song, better lyrics and think I even heard a little jimmy page at the end there ;) This might be the 100th time I've replayed it.

I really like Eric Church and one reason I do is because he does not do what everyone else is doing he does his own thing no that hip hop country crap but Eric Church experiments with his music too but he always sounds good and can always impress us fans no matter what I love the new album Eric Church will always be one of my favorite country artist he is true to his music and fans and that's all there is to it P.S I saw him in concert in 2014 at the ice palace he was amazing and he was just so good in concert keep be in awesome Eric Church 👍
Justin Kinyon and that, what you just said, is country. He writes/help writes all of his songs, at least on "Carolina" and "sinners like me". You see, country isn't and never has been a genre of music. It's a way of life that a lot of people must have never felt. Country is how you feel, songs you can relate to about life.
Just look back and you will see that country music didn't even want country music. The outlaws paved their own path and stations played it l(although Nashville didn't) because that was/is real country.
Country is no longer country it is country rock and the older Eric gets the more albums he makes they seem to go back to their roots
Dustin Taylor him and Jon Pardi are the future.
It's more like country rap.
The more and more i listen to this song and Mr.Misunderstood i think i have a relatable life to those two songs
Dustin Taylor this song and mixed drinks and feelings are the Most Underrated songs on this album....
you don't like Chatanooga Lucy? Love that song... he's said on multiple occasions that this song n Chat. Lucy are his 2 favorite off this album, hope he releases both as singles after Kill a Word :) I can't pick a favorite.... Haven't found a song by him I don't like!!
@witenite68 no I love chat. Lucy I just love mistress named music and kill a word more
I love Mistress named Music, make my girl blush everytime i sing it to her ;p
good one CHIEF.
I absolutely hate country music, but this song is genuinely really good, like really, I love it.
Eric Church Three Year Old love love love it
At the 3:20 mark I played the instrumental only part to a friend who hates country. He loved it. I told him its country but its real country. This is what I love about Eric, he just makes music, none of that trying to tell everyone how lifted his truck is or how country he is. I can't wait until June 11th when I get to see him live again.
Greg Brown 'he just makes music' AMEN, friend & I just keep lovin' it...

You nailed it friend 🌹
Any website you say?
john boreman I keep reporting that girl who only writes hateful replies....sad Eric Church Help Your Fans!!!!!
john boreman Thank you very much for the lyrics,, love that chorus
This almost reminds me of a modern day country rock "November Rain"
Don't agree at all - Eric's lyric has got real substance - the G&R song is (typically of them) just tired old 1970s "dustbins of your mind" junk. The guitar solo's OK, though.
Best country singer by far.
James McMurtry and Jason Isbell would like a word with you.
Take em to church!
lyrically one of the best songs I've heard
one of Eric Church's best songs.
3:49 Oh yeah!
Holy s---. This album is incredible.
It really is....there's really not 1 bad song on it, I guess if I had to pick my least favorite on it would be "Round Here Buzz" it's the one i listen to the least.
Solid front to back
Yeah, ain't it just, very much agree! I only "discovered" EC around Christmas 2017, but I soon had to have all the CDs (not so very easy, I live in Europe). They knocked me out, they are all great - Carolina, Chief, Sinners Like Me, Mr. M., The Outsiders - I'd only known about "Round here buzz", "Springsteen" and "Mr. Misunderstood" up till they came. This song is - and I mean this literally - world-class, a potential global hit. Same applies to "Mixed drinks" and "Holding my own". One more thing: the recordings are all of incredibly high quality, you hear everything, and "everything" is superbly nuanced! Roll on the next CD, Eric, soon please, I need more!
good music for sure. finally someone who is fake as shit.
isn't! * isn't fake as shit!
Cool HAPPY HOLIDAYS :-)!
