Very true! I really LOVE his "Wee Wee Hours", too. I recall reading somewhere that he really wanted to do ballads more in the mold of Nat King Cole, but his meter and voice led to him doing mostly what he's famous for now.
Glen Dubya........Yes, I kind of agree with you. Wouldn't call it "an excellent ballad"; sounds like a decent rendition, IMO. This is probably the first BluesBerry Ballad I can recall hearing (on 10-7-17) and it got me to thinking: maybe something or someone along the way (Chess Records?) told him that R&B ballads were not really his strong suit, and if he was concerned about his career and legacy, he should stick with what he did best. For whatever the reason, he was smart enough to keep the ballads to a minimum and leave the "harder" R&B stuff to the "professionals", like Ray Charles, B.B. King, et al. Think you're exactly right: his meter and voice were less than optimal for this sort of tune, but he was already an icon when this was recorded, so it didn't matter much, but does demonstrate a certain amount of CB's versatility. 10-11
