Chuck Berry - Almost Grown Lyrics
(Wow wow) You know I'm almost grown (Wow wow)
Yeah 'n' I'm doin' all right in school
They ain't said I broke no rule
I ain't never been in Dutch
Don't bother me, leave me alone
Anyway I'm almost grown
I don't run around with no mob
Got myself a little job
I'm gonna buy me a little car
Drive my girl in the park
Don't bother just leave us alone
Got my eye on a little girl
Ah, she's really out of this world
When I take her to the dance,
She's got to talk about romance
Don't bother just leave us alone
Anyway we're almost grown
You know I'm still livin' in town
But I done married and settled down
Now I really have a ball
So I don't browse around at all
Don't bother just leave us alone
Anyway we're almost grown

Chuck Berry Almost Grown Comments
Remember when white people called Rock & Roll Nigger music!!!!! And to think many believe Elvis is the king of a musical art form that was created by Black People in the early 1940’s. Real Rock & Roll is made of Blues, and Jazz, and in the 1950’s Chuck added unique guitar solos and riffs.
🎸 The true King of Rock N' Roll 🎸
R.I.P. Chuck
Home Alone 3 brought me here

Alex slammed the toilet seat on his thing again *BULLSEYE*
Chuck Berry...truly timeless.
Lucky he wrote this song in 1959. if he sang it today, they would lock him up for pedophilia, just as they have slandered Michael jackson, R. Kelly and Blll Cosby.

A different time...a different place. Never to return again. It was a different world back then. So many good memories. Many friends who are now gone. Like they say...**you can't go home again.** ❤️
2019 anyone
Joan Smith yes !!
Ah-h, Chuck...you gotta wait till she IS grown!
The absolute essence of Rock & Roll. The ORIGINAL invention of the genre. GOD Bless Mr. Berry.
My feet can’t be still when I hear this song.
The REAL KING of Rock n Roll.
You know Ah almos' grown!

14? 18-19 is ALMOST grown, not 14
Love the photos
Love it
The soundtrack from the film American Graffiti. My first rock and roll album. 1973.
Fuckin' amazing!
love this song by a great rock n roll legend
Some beautiful piano from J.J
tasty piano licks behind the guitar , like in almost every Berry's song of the fifties...
That´s music...great music...!!!
RIP Chuck Berry, you were one of the last men standing, it’s a shame you guys are dropping like flies now, as we just lost Fats Domino as well.
What have never heard this if it wasn't for YouTube. Or apparently ha3 lol. Heck. I was at my exes house... she had on cars. I heard Chuck. Route 66. Had to add to playlist and I never heard those 2 on the radio ever!!
I made a slideshow with this song and YouTube deleted the sound. Can I ask how you were able to avoid the copyright infringement? Thank you.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI
Fantastic video!! :)
I grew up with the great Chuck Berry...I was Sweet Little 16....
This is my favorite song from him. It's a shame most of them sound so similar. You sort of have to pick your favorites of the clones.
Vi siete scaldati un po' con Memphis Tennessee?
Beh, allora fa per Voi!
Coolest tune ever!
Classic Chuck Berry, too much.
a true classic
Almost grown That's what he told that 14 year old he raped
I first heard this one on his "Greatest Hits" album. I didn't know it then, but Chuck Berry was telling the story of my life (and I was just in my late teens at the time). He had this effect on me even then. God, Mr. Berry, I miss you already.
One of my favorite Chuck Berry songs. RIP Chuck Berry
Can't get enough of this song!!! Perfection!!! RIP Chuck . . . you have left us with many treasures that will stand the test of time
John Moonitz Well said.
Love how Cindy Williams and Ron Howard looked together at 2:12. What a bitchin' movie (as 'Debbie Dunham', brilliantly played by Candy Clark) would have said it! That soundtrack couldn't be beat for those who love doo-wop and classic rock before The Beatles and the British Invasion. "Almost Grown" hit #32 on the Hot 100, and #3 on the R&B charts.
What are the backing singers singing? It sounds to me like "I am free" maybe?
REST IN PEACE SO SAD TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING TO ME HE IS THE FOUNDING FATHER OF ROCK AND ROLL GREW UP IN THE 60S WAS A TEEN HE GOT ME INTO ROCK AND ROLL ONLY MUSIC THAT I LISTEN TO TODAY IM A ROCKER BECAUSE OF HIM LOVE ROCK AND ROLL
Chuck Berry RIP.
Recall bopping to this brilliant track, many years ago.
He made some wonderful records. At the height of his powers, he was unbeatable.
This was my own personal favourite.
R.I.P. Mr. Berry.... Passed away today March 18, 2017 at the age of 90. You left behind a catalog of great Rock And Roll Music that will live on forever. You will be missed.
fuckin' aai man
without Chuck Berry, rock 'n ' roll would not have existed. he's now at heavens gate demanding his fee in advance before he plays for the angels Rock In Peace dude!
RIP The Father of Rock n Roll The Great Chuck Berry!!!!
RIP Chuck ...keep rockin in Heaven !
Rip chuck. you will always be missed.
If you like. You can hear the Mary Lou song by The Creative Force on utube
THE UNDISPUTED FOUNDING FATHER OF ROCK AND ROLL
Love this song
Here because of home alone 3 <3
I forgot about home alone was watching American Graffiti and this song came on i knew it sounded familiar lol.
Love that movie! Finally someone else who does! Feel free to add me as a fb friend.
There Ya Go Speedy
me too, watched it again an hour ago on tv with my parents (it's almost midnight here where i live). home alone movies are a christmas tradition in my home. 😊🤗💞
This is precisely what we feel when we are sixteen although I was thirteen when this song was released. I remember it is frustrating in some ways to feel one is almost an adult but not quite yet. You want to act like a man and sometimes still do childish things making girls laugh at you.
Takes me right back to Opryland and running the roller coaster. Best job I ever had. They played the American Graffiti soundtrack on a continuous loop.
kind of an overlooked Chuck Berry song. underated, but great song!
+Bobba Ganoosh No doubt.Chucks career lasted for such a long time it's hard to say which songs were underated.Being a CB fan I loved them all!!
+loverofmusic4life hard to believe but i THINK his only #1 song was "ding a ling". ironic. that was one of my least favorite CB songs. oh well, HAIL, HAIL ROCK & ROLL! (even tho they don't make it anymore)
These days, this one remains at the top of the heap. Most of his other hits get overplayed and worn out for just that reason. But this tune was somewhat overlooked and under-appreciated, except by the genius (George Lucas?) who had the inspiration to include it in the soundtrack of American Graffiti. That move gave eternal greatness to a diamond in the rough. R.I.P. Chuck Berry
Not where I Grew up. The whole neighborhood played it. Loud. 😆. I was a little girl back then. Gee, time flys even when you’re NOT having fun.
@Toni Sumblin: it's never too late to start having fun, c'mon, rock and roll!
Does anyone know who the piano player was ?
More than likely it was Johnnie Johnson.
Johnnie Johnson.
+tim rundall Thanx
Johnnie Johnson played piano on most all of Berrys records in the fifties and sixties.
Brian Herrington extremely underrated at that
I keep finding more and more of the Father's songs each week!
Chuck Berry Iz da MAN!
Godfather of rock and roll along with Les Paul who invented the electric guitar and Alan Freed who despite fierce criticism pushed the up and coming new bands over the airways ! Would have been great being a teenager back in the mid fifties in America !
Reprise en français par Eddy Mitchell " A crédit et en stéréo", j'ai les deux versions..
One of the best songs from "American Graffiti" <3
Home alone 3 lol when Alex gets home and sees his chicken pox scars lol
only here cuz i shazammed this song watching home alone 3
jolly good show
chuck is the man had a hit on anything he did
+Roger Huff amen and plays the hell on that guitar
Understatement of the year.
1962 , fourteen years old and having a ball !
+Sands of time thats the year i got married her name is caroline we just celebrated our 53rd anniversery
11 & wishing I was grown.
58 and wishing I wasn't
I was six years old. But I remember all these songs. So enjoyed watching my parents dance in the living room. The high light would be my Dad lifting me up to dance with him. Wonderful memories! This music brings it all back. I get teary.
whats the back up singers saying? "IIII dont care" or "Niiiight n day" or something like that ?
+RideMyTruck Niiiight n day
@Francis Figliola hmm, thats what I thought, but its something else it sounds like "got a date" , "got away" or "gotta pray" this is HILARIOUS!!!
+RideMyTruck you are free to believe in what ever you want, this is free world, and as I said I was making joke, I look in dictionary for that word, would ya? ;)
Sounds like "got away"
I've been saying da dooo day wo wo
chuck berry what a gangsta
+Quantum op almost grown came out way before american grafiti
@Roger Huff makes sense... interesting :)
Roger, it was in 1959, just 3 years before the '62 setting of "American Graffiti."
Roger Huff: DUHHHH !!! Guess if the song came out AFTER the movie, they couldn't have put it in..........DUH
freeguy77: Either way, it was way before "American Graffiti". Three years or fourteen years; what's the difference? A. Eleven years !!
I love how George Lucas did this movie before Star Wars,
@Justin Daniel Dunn yeah, Disney owns it now. They should do a remake or a prequel.
RideMyTruck univseral still owns distribution rights to American graffiti though I’d assume Disney gets a check in mail every once in while from American graffiti and THX 1138 as I think Disney got the production rights
Justin Daniel Yah, this movie was made becuse he lost a bet with Francis Ford Coppola and becuse Lucas lost the bet he had to write is sentimtal mushy movie
Justin Daniel Do YOU Really???
would you know this song I think it came out in 1960-1961 that was in American Graffeti -Poetry so sweet as her eyes did gleam....all her friends .....Its as the character John miller is being pulled over
The Great Imposter
Thanks that was dam nice of you
home alone 3
There was no "First" Rock 'n' Roll record. It was an evolution of R&B and Country and Pop (Les Paul, Johnny Ray among others). Rock 'n' Roll was technology driven also. The introduction of the 45 rpm record, the invention of the transistor (made music portable), and the proliferation of Jukeboxes in places teenagers hung out after school pushed the new music forward.
As some mentioned here about how Berry's stock seemed to have slipped possibly because he was not a very good self promoter. That comment is pretty much right on. Personally, I believe Chuck took his own music for granted. His live shows consisted of Chuck trying to play his songs in the wrong key, singing out of tune and using local bands as his backup.
Keith Richard said it best. They spent hours rehearsing only to have Chuck start winging it when the show began. Chuck Berry traveled alone. There was never Johnnie Johnson or Willie Dixon on stage with him. The local promoters would put out a call for a local band who could play Chuck Berry songs. That is why many of his concerts were bereft with miss-cues, bad singing, playing in the wrong key and he did this on purpose!! I am a huge Chuck Berry fan and I enjoyed his concerts. They just never seemed to match up to his stellar talent. He just seemed to be winging it all the time.
THE ABSOLUTE VERY FIRST ROCK GUITAR GOD!!!!
No doubt
Scotty Moore too and T Bone Walker. In the 1940s he was playing rock and roll style behind his head and with his teeth. Where do you think Jimi got it. It’s all so good ✌️
FeldMarschall Rommel she was great so was big mamma Thornton
Alan Young Carl was great Blue Suede Shoes. Matchbox. Everybody wants to be my Baby. He Rocked. Buddy Holly too. Well Alright. 😞
FeldMarschall Rommel By the way are you still mad my British relatives ripped you a second asshole in North Africa? You were one of the only real soldiers in that lot of filthy Nazis. But you Huns could never conquer Great Britain. 😂
what ya got in there kid ? more then your can handle , what a babe what a bitchin babe .
Actually Patty Mae was playing while he said What do you got in there kid? more than you can handle. At a different scene. But the bitchin babe was with this song.
Background Vocals; Not new Moonglows, but
The Mighty Mighty Dells .....although Harvey Fugua,
may have also been in the background vocals ....Now you know
The Dells forever .....
If Chuck had liked em full grown he would have spent less time in the big house
TheOnlyOneKingElvis: Apparently, he spent considerable "quality time" in the ladies outhouse, (after a stretch in the big house) with his hidden cameras rolling. Doesn't make him a "bad person" or anything; but who am I to judge??? R.I.P. Chuck
HH69: Ask Jerry Lee Lewis---on second thought, maybe not the best one to ask !! In Chuck's case, probably a few years older than Sweet Little Fourteen ????
love this tune
too me elvis is the greatest singer of all time, but the best rock n roll singers are little richard and chuck berry,is that makes sense.
Elvis couldn't sing better than Roy Hamilton or Jackie Wilson
I thinkI will keep working towards this one, because I really love her.
Hey kid, there's lots of hot chicks in the world. If one isn't working out then go find another one. Thats the best part- getting another girl. the chase is better than the catch.
chuck berry=awesome songwriter+fantastic recordings+child molester
I thought most girls today text on their cell phones, but she doesn't, and I noticed that I love her for who she is, not what kind of music, she likes, even if she likes a different kind of music, but her and I do have a lort in common with each other, but not everything, but that's okay, I'm also know you can never figure out a woman. please help, thanks.
I tried to right her again, and still no response, what do you do to get a girl to give you a chance? I hear lots of stories where lots of people's wives were difficult at first, I know if she gave me a chance, she would really like me, shoould I just wait until she gets back to talk to her? instead of writing anymore, I hate Facebook, but I had to try the Facebook route, and she didn't write back, I guess another reason I didn't think about girls emotionally is because...
I think about her now too, I'm going in the Air Force the end of this year, but anyways, I realized, I really like her so I wanted to ask her out before she left, she seemed like she like me, but she wasn't there the last day of school, so after school about a week after I finalky got a hold of one lf her friends and her friend said she allready went back, and won't be back for 2 years, now she'll be back in 1 year, so her friend gave me her address to write her, and she hasn't responded...
I made a mistake and waited last minute before I asked her out, see I'm going into the Air Force and I work out at the gym, i graduated from high school June of 2013, she was an exchange my 11th grade year 2011-2012 school year and I really didn't think about girls, I just worried about the military and politics and being old school, my values and morals are old school and I believe in common sense and I'm conservative and for Capitalism. I still think about that stuff and now I think about her-
It's like she's perfect, and I said her cards in Germany for Valentine's Day and her Birthday, and when she's here get chocolates and flowers and go places she wants to go even if I don't like that place, just for her, and my heart melts like chocolate. and I love her manorisms and her smile and the way she talks and her voice too. I've never been in-love before, She's also the type that takes things slow, and I love that about her too, but see I made a mistake and waited last minute right...
it suprised me, I know what month it was in that I fell in-love with her, but not the specific day, June of 2012. I never use to cry until I fell in-love, and I'm old fasioned in all ways, when it comes to dating I open up doors and treat that one special person like a princess and I want to marry her one day and I will take care of her when she's sick and comfort her if she cries, and I think she's the most beautiful girl in the world, it sedms like nobody looks better looking than her...
That's nice to hear. congrats, I hope for nothing but happiness as long as you both shall live. I'm 19 and I like the oldies music, 50's and 60's. I'm in love with a girl from Germany she was an exchange student here, she went back to Germany a year ago, and won't be back until next year in the Summer, but I'm hoping and praying that it works out between her and I. She's the sweetest girl that I ever met, she's s girly girl and mature, I don't know exactly I fell in love with her but...
