Chubby Checker - (At The) Discotheque Lyrics
Come along come on with me
To a place just down the street
Where the kids are movin', dancin', groovin'
To the uptown beat of the discotheque
At the discotheque
Do what you wanna do
Be what you wanna be
Get yourself out of that dull routine
Got no time no worry hurry
Everybody's there
Laughin', singin', dancin', swingin'
Music fills the air
At the discotheque
Go where the action is
That's where the incrowd lives
Do what you never did before
Off in a corner
A table for two
Soft lights above
Music for love
A boy and a girl
A brand new world
Everything's gonna be alright
Tonight's gonna be the night
Cause you're gonna be there too
And I'm gonna be with you
And we're gonna dance all night
And I'm gonna hold you tight
Everything's gonna turn out right
And ya gonna be mine
At the discotheque
At the discotheque
At the discotheque
At the discotheque
At the discotheque
At the discotheque
At the discotheque

Classic 1960s dance track, the wisky ago go.. Wardor Street, London 1981
Wheel the home of northern !,,,
Another Twisted Wheel classic-think of sharp clothes,Crombies,brogues-you got it.,
When I heard Mark Wesley playing this track on Radio Luxembourg in the spring of 1981 it was the first time I heard this track since it first came out in the UK, it was the first track on an edition of "Juke Box Jury" sometime between 1965 & 1967.
Great tune from Chubby - first heard this 50 years ago - King Mojo Club - Sheffield
One of the most in demand singles on the Mod scene in 67.One copy on UK Cameo Parkway was sold for £25 (about 4 weeks wages at the time). An absolute CLASSIC.Great memories of the Beachcomber,Lace Market,Nottingham.Still Keeping the Faith !!
One of the wheels classics a great sound
Just a top tune!!.
Oh wow takes me back to 1970 first heard this obtained it on a pressing back then

I had this Little gem xx back in the days of summer Wigan casino 78 classic ❤ Love it ❤ Love N/S forever and KTF to everyone connected to The hugely popular soul scene ❤ ❤ ❤
The flip side of "Let's Do The Freddie".
played loads in the alnighters "up west" in soho back in 65 my club of choice back then was "the last chance saloon" they played this often and the follow-up too "everything's wrong" great track great memories ! hey, hey, hey !
I heard this song before I'd hears of discotheques lol, they were just dances
This was a favourite at soul nights at Burnley Mecca in the 60s. Happy carefree days!
Interesting. I was a fan of the Cameo/Parkway acts like Chubby Checker/Orlons/Dee Dee Sharp/Bobby Rydell/Dovells in the early 1960's while in junior high school. However, I never heard this at all in Los Angeles on KRLA or KFWB. In fact, I didn't hear the term, "discotheque", until years later. Switch to 1978, where I'm taking New York hustle lessons at one of the many discotheques sprouting up all over, listening to Lipstique doing their 15 minute version of this song. Until today, I didn't know that it had Chubby Checker roots.
apologies for memory slip-know where it was and clearly seen in my minds eye but a poor mistake made in haste duh. Can't say if it was or wasn't owned by Gary Lane-he only told me he worked at the Spin Inn when I met him in the Scotch Club [Torquay] in 1968. Doesn't mean he didn't own it tho'.
the bees knees...his finest moment among fine moments
The Spin Inn, Cross Street- to the side of Time and Place front entrance
i.v got tihs great northern disc on d.l.t label which i bought in 1968 at a place called garry lanes recorods at cross st manchester the place has now gone all i say is k.t.f
Sadly most of the great parts of Manchester have now gone.Just full of Offices and 'Studio Apartments' i.e expensive bedsits.
Bought this in 1968 for£5
was this played at the casino?
Brill record...... shame he only gets remembered for the Twist.
Fantastic. The first time I've heard this in 40 years!!! Thanks for posting it. I looked for it a few years back on You Tube but to no avail. Believe it or not, just like Dave in the comment below, my copy got stolen at my engagement party at home in Jan 1971 ! My wife and I used to dance to this at the Mardi Gras club in Liverpool before we moved to Australia in 1972. I'll bet Liverpool Mod Lee remembers the Mardi Gras and the Victoriana, hey??!! Cheers, Phil
oh yea ! great tune from 65, the last chance saloon in oxford st, la discotheque in wardour st , great memories from back in the day up west , the follow up was called " everythings wrong " wasn't too bad but " at the discotheque " was a tough act to follow, thanks for posting, had it myself on cameo parkway but somehow it got lost ( or stolen ) along the way, regards dave
I think the "info" bit says it all; ALL TIME CLASSIC...
