Christy Moore - Missing You Lyrics

In nineteen hundred and eighty six
There's not much for a chippie but swinging a pick
And you can't live on love, on love alone
So you sail cross the ocean, away 'cross the foam

To where you're a Paddy, a Biddy or a Mick
Good for nothing but stacking a brick
Your best mate's a spade and he carries a hod
Two work horses heavily shod

Oh, I'm missing you
I'd give all for the price of a flight
Oh, I'm missing you
Under Piccadilly's neon

Who did you murder, are you a spy?
I'm just fond of a drink, helps me laugh, helps me cry
So I just drink red biddy for a permanent high
I laugh a lot less and I'll cry till I die

Oh, I'm missing you
I'd give all for the price of a flight
Oh, I'm missing you
Under Piccadilly's neon

All ye young people now take my advice
Before crossing the ocean you'd better think twice
'Cause you can't live without love, without love alone
The proof is round London in the nobody zone

Where the summer is fine, but the winter's a fridge
Wrapped up in old cardboard under Charing Cross Bridge
And I'll never go home now because of the shame
Of misfit's reflection in a shop window pane

Oh, I'm missing you
I'd give all for the price of a flight
Oh, I'm missing you
Under Piccadilly's neon

Irish Lad50 I’m not sure about the origin of the word, but I can imagine your right about it being a word for African immigrants, I just know it’s a word that means black people, I dought Christy uses the word in the same way that I’ve heard it said,

  43. Snug Bear

I was watching Sean Spicer this week defending Trump and at the same time so proud of his Irish Heritage. Well I'm first generation and so proud to have been raised by a true Irish Man. My father had lots of friends of many different backgrounds. As a young girl the message was clear judge everyone individually. The Irish were once persecuted along with other Europeans not so long ago. I feel The Irish philosophy is to defend the persecuted, empathy to be exact. The Irish are not phony and are direct. People like Spicer who defend dishonesty should dig down to find their Irish Voice!

    candom rommenter

The Irish are like everyone else. Some good some bad. We fought to be treated as equals.

    Terry MaC

    #racist

    Martin Morrisey

It's in us all to be good and to be bad. It depends who brought us up, and under what circumstances. I had the honour of being brought up by a true Irishman, Ginger Morrissey, who died when I was twelve. He was not an educated man, but he left everyone he met with a memory of him. I just wish I had known him longer.

    Shortall Liam

    Well said, sister!

James Coughlan ....well said my friend ...I went to London at 21 and 30 years later I can honesty say that there was not 1 episode of any disrespect in that time ....and yes Sir , the only people who ever tried to " fuck over " the young Irish lads Were Their Fellow Countrymen " ....Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about ...And before all the Fenians come outta the closet , my grandfathers brother translated the First Irish Constitution and my entire family of relations were up in Dublin in 1916 apart from Sean who was still smuggling guns out of the BSA factory in Birmingham ....So , fuck y'all
