Chris LeDoux - Hoka Hey, Lakota's Lyrics

Come listen while I tell you the story
Of a battle that happened years ago
Where brave men fought and died for their people
Where the waters of the Little Big Horn flow

For many years the Indian fought the White Man
I guess they knew the end was growin' near
But this time they would show the Whites forever
What it meant to be an Indian warrior

That mornin' General Custer came a marchin'
From the south with his 600 men
He planned to catch the Indians a sleepin'
He didn't know he wouldn't live to fight again

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

Sittin' Bull made medicine on the mountain
While Crazy Horse got ready for the fight
Some 2,000 braves, Sioux and Cheyenne
Prepared for their battle with the whites

The scouts for General Custer tried to warn him
To wait for soldiers comin' any day
But Custer didn't want to share the glory
He thought the Indians might just get away

At noon Custer gave his final order
And the're beneath that blue Montana sky
From outa nowhere came the hordes of Redmen
And as they charged he heard their battle cry

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

The quiet of the day had now been shattered
The air filled with arrows, smoke and lead
The bloody battle lasted just one hour
Custer and his soldiers all lay dead

Now the wind still blows across the prairie
The seasons they come and they go
But this the Redman's Day of Glory
We will all remember ever more

Yes we recall that famous day of glory
The Battle of the Little Big Horn

Hoka Hey, Lakotas, It's a good day to die

Custer an his men got what the deserved to bad the lokata an the other Indians didn't take care of all the white men in there country. I'm mostly white not real proud of my white side I'd rather be 100 per cent native

200 white men versus 2,000 Indians

    D.... W....

611 vs. an estimated 3000. Despite superior fire power, the 7th Cavalry lost. Why? Custer divided his force. Never divide your force and get caught in the open against a numerically superior force.

Know the terrain and NEVER let your enemy pick where the fight happens.
Was Sun Tzu's The Art of War part of the syllabus at West Point in the 19th century?

Custer didn't want to raid little bighorn. nobody did. He would've been court martialed if he didn't go. just some history for you.

Shane Carter There's a historical fiction book titled"The Court Martial of George Custer" that examines what could have happened had he not died at the Little Big Horn

I was always taught that Custer wanted to be a hero so badly he charged alone, instead of waiting for the other Calvary to get there. I believe you need to check your facts, Shane Carter.

Yes, Custer always had a reputation as somewhat of a lone wolf even during his time at West Point. If you ever get the chance, read the book Crazy Horse and Custer by Stephen Ambrose . Much respect to Crazy Horse, the Sioux and other plains tribes. Great horsemen and warriors.

I don't believe that to be true. He was ordered to scout the Little Big Horn, his own scouts told him of the sizable Indian force, but he ignored them.

Sadly Custer had his two brothers, and his brother-in-law at the battle. His brother, Thomas Custer lied about his age to join the Union Army where he earned two Medal of Honors in the span of two days during the American Civil War. This bloody battle was a sad day for the Custer family.

The only US survivor was a horse named, Comanche, who was ridden by another war hero named Myles Keough.

If you are a student of history definitely look up Myles Keough, and Thomas Custer.
