One of maybe fifteen songs that absolutely floored me into a dazed shit-eating grin the first time I heard it, next to legendary solo sections like Soliloquy from 2112 by Rush, Biding My Time by Pink Floyd, or Dreamer Deceiver and Beyond The Realms of Death by Judas Priest. Utterly phenomenal doesn't even begin to cover it.

I always like to think that they're shredding so fucking hard that they god-damned exploded at the end.

@jaw1605 Alexi is a classically trained musician too. Played some jazz as well during his time in conservatory.

Is this song about someone that he used to love but is now dead? The first two lines could mean that whoever he used to love is now in heaven high above, and the only thing left for him is his/her shadow (memories), which he clings on to from down below (left alone on Earth).

Later he says that he/she is far away (in heaven), but he can still remember him/her very well and even smell his/her scent when he thinks about him/her. He's ready to cross the line (exiting life to enter death) and follow him/her - to get to whatever place you go when you die, where the person he lost is still hautning him from.

He's kissing (thinking of) the shadows (memories) that he's left with, maybe accepting that this person is lost - but as i said earlier he's ready to follow him/her into death so that they can be together in peace (death is considered to be a peacefull state by many).

Am i all wrong about this? Some parts of the song could indicate a whole different meaning than this one i suggested. Any ideas? The part where the person he's singing about is touching the shadows he's surrounding him/her with is one example of where my interpetation might not hold up.

In an interview Alexi said that they quickly made this song just to fill up the album so idk if he would put that much of a deep meaning into it's lyrics. But your interpretation is completely viable though
