Childers, Tyler - Honky Tonk Flame Lyrics
I was out of my mind the first night we met
I was feeling lonely and blue
I'd just moved to the country to get me some rest
The city can put a hurtin' on you
Especially a fella from eastern Kentucky
Wasting his life on a burnin' desire
And chasing that honky tonk flame
You were soft on the eyes and a Hymn on the hearing
Leaving me helpless of lines
To get you to listen to the way I was feelin'
And the plans I had made for our night
Hold on now buddy won't ya wait up a minute
You're mistaken if you think I'm the same
As them skirts you've been chasin' all over town
I'm a woman with a love so true
Truth of the matter I'd give it to you
You just got to slow down, quit actin' that way
Burnin' your barn in this honky tonk flame
You were sweet to the touch
And a touch for the takin'
The minute I learned how to breathe
Finally found out that the love of a woman
Who loved me was all that I'd need
Still on the road cause I ain't good for nothin'
Except writing the songs that I sing
Beating them strings like they're owing me money
And chasing that honky tonk flame
But I got me a woman with a love so true
Darlin' to me but that's missus to you
All I did was slow down and quit actin' insane
Burnin' my barn in this honky tonk flame

From one eastern Kentuckian to another, you’ve one heck of a voice and ya know how to use it, proud to see someone play some actual country instead of whatever they’re playin on 98.1 these days
I'm from letcher county and I'm sure proud of tyler being from eastern Kentucky

#NewCountry2019🏴☠️
Pretty sure this is country and upchurch is a fucking joke lol
Everyone loves to compare you to a country great like Waylon or Willie, but I think one day country greats will be compared to you.
Childers is the man !
I can not get enough of your sound and I e shared it w everyone i know
Heard this song and artist for the first time right now on 96.3. I was wondering who this was and how had I missed this great old song all my life. I thought I'd found an elusive jewel-a great old country song that I'd never heard before. Imagine my suprise when I learned this is a relatively new artist with such an authentic and polished sound. I've listened to about a half a dozen songs in the last 30 minutes and am convinced this guy is just a superstar. What a wordsmith!
now 6 days later and I'll bet you he's all you've been listening to since. It's been a year for me and honestly the songs get better and better. Follow you to Virgie especially gets to me more and more
Hate county music with one exception Tyler Childers he's badass
How in THE HOLY HELL could even one person give this a thumbs down, much less 200?!!?
They probably are looking for Luke Bryan videos and got lost
"Beatin them strings like they're owin me money". I'm not gay...but would probably marry Tyler
Kind of reminds me of Paradise by John Prine.
Boy that steel guitar....
I love Tyler but I have to say I would have like to hear Janis Joplin sing a cover of this song
Dude...that would be grand
Oh, if only! Janis and I are from the same small Texas town. They always have a birthday celebration for her, one year they had an impersonator- and she was GREAT! I mean, obviously Janis can’t be competed with.
Mary Frank that's awesome be cool to see!
Love it but he's better recorded live. That is a rare statement!
Yea his voice live sounds 10x better. Sometimes I gotta listen to these though to hear the awesome "studio" sound of the instruments
Disagree
Hank Sr. Would be right proud of this man!
Found listening to Cody jinks who I thought was the best , but got topped quickly Tyler is fucking talented
This album goes harder than a catholic's priest's pecker
Pretty much!
Im dyin' 😂
come on man
Now this is what i,m fuckin talking about..old School bro..
The guitar on this song makes it the best on the album imo. Fucking fantastic
Yep. I usually prefer his live cuts but God damn this version is insane
Love this song
Over done
kind of... sturgill produced it so maybe he was going for that psychadelic sound like on metamodern, i like it, but it would have been good to have this song with an old timey 60's feel to it
It seems, when they record him in the studio and add all the extras, they take away the soul from his voice. I prefer his music raw, acoustic, and gritty. I mean it’s all good, don’t get be wrong. But yes. Overdone. His voice isn’t meant to be heard like this.
Mary Frank W H A T
Zach Carley your ears suck fat wangs bro this song is a masterpiece of instrumentals and vocals
ok boomer
BOB DYLAN MEETS BOCEPHUS
I tell people all the time.. modern day bob Dylan with a hint of.......Bocephus and true Appalachian bluegrass
Ryan Ralph Kentucky at its best
First heard this on The radio had to almost stop just to listen !! good as it gets
Huckleberry where u at that it was on radio?
Eastern Kentucky
i love this song. i teally like the chord progression. i play tje guitar, everytime i hear it, i grab my guitar snd play along. thnx
104.9 out of Powell co? That's the only station I've heard him on
This Album literally gave me goosebumps!!!
bad ass ol sturgill sniffed out a jewl on this real deal..............He has quickly became my everyday fav i relate to this guy so much i no where he comes from he paints the picture well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you haven't yet, check out Colter Wall. I get to see Childers in concert tonight :)
Sturgill blows goats... Sorry but he's a hack. At least he's got an ear for talent tho!
@Joe Vanmeter wtf? A hack? How? Honestly I don't see how. Care to elaborate why?
@Joe Vanmeter ?
hear hear! this dude is the truth! Saw him in Fort Worth LIVE. Amazing show. I had never even heard of him before. He/they blew me away!
This album is basically perfect. I hear people bitching that they like the One Guy, One Guitar sound better, but the arrangement of the songs leading to this one with the psychedelic steel guitar and going into the trippy banjo picking on the next song "Universal Sound" is a journey. I love Isbell, Sturgill, Stapleton and everyone else they compare this kid to, but none of them have put together an album like this one. A great ride from start to finish. Especially when you start reaching "grocery bill" territory.
Not exactly true. He said he went in the studio and didn't argue with sturgill a bit. He said he did whatever sturgill told him to do. I can't remember where I saw that interview, but it is out there.
I can't think of too many albums where I literally don't skip a single song, but this one I can play on repeat all day lol
This is one of my favorite albums for sure but don’t try and knock Sturgill. Sturgill’s last album was only good enough to be nominated for Album of the Year, and won Country Album of the year.
Nick Kyler this has sturgill written all over it and that’s definitely not a bad thing.
I was one of those people at first, not that I didn’t enjoy the sounds of everything else, I thought it took away from his voice. When you listen to it like this with the band it threw me off for a minute, but I’m a person that enjoys listening to an album start to finish, when I did that my mind was instantly changed.
we are living in a country music renaissance and this is fucking great country music
Mr. Childers...You have my old school, country ass, ear bent brother!!! Very Unique sound! I really enjoy your "unplugged" songs, but this is a unique sound. Your voice is as country as it gets. Keep on keepin on...Can't wait to see ya at the top with Jamey Johnson, Cody Jinks and the like!
