Chicago - I Stand Up Lyrics

You'll never lose me to temptation.
Fighting the devil and I beat the dragon too.
I'm at your rescue; I'm your faithful one,
If it's the last thing that I ever mean to do.
I'm in deeper than you could know.
The wise in me won't let it go.
You can count on me, guarantee.

I stand up, I stand up,
Believe in myself.
(If you love somebody, stand.)
I stand up, I stand up,
Give me a little respect.
(If you need somebody, stand.)

Out of the shadow, yet I'm alright.
It's not as easy as I know it used to be.
I don't have time to look behind me.
I know the truth and it's the truth that set me free.
One more heart to heart to live for;
One more time to stop the war,
Inside of me; in spite of me.

I stand up, I stand up,
Believe in myself
(If you love somebody, stand.)
I stand up, I stand up,
Give me a little respect.
(If you need somebody, stand.)

I stand up, I stand up,
Believe in myself.
(If you love somebody, stand.)
I stand up, I stand up,
Give me a little respect.
(If you need somebody, stand.)

this has to be their most rocking album since the debut

I like it when Jimmy Pankow gets to do lead vocals. I don't know why.

I seem to remember reading that Pankow did vocals on this song. It sounds a little edgy for Lamm, which is what made it acceptable to think. I'll have to see if I can dig that up. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I would like to verify for myself after such a long standing belief. If I'm wrong I'll own it.

I'll stand corrected on this one. I've not really heard Lamm so edgy before. I really don't like his regular style. He was considerably weaker than Kath and Champlain, lacked the unique style of Cetera, and the range of Scheff so he was always very bland and square by comparison. Don't get me wrong, I like Lamm as a writer and an ivory pounder, just never cared for his voice all that much except for this song and perhaps Saturday In the Park.

To each their own, but I think Robert is the greatest singer of all time. And yes, he's a little bit higher on this one than usual.

@Tac If you think this is edgy for RL, check out his lead on the _Stone of Sisyphus_ track "Sleeping In The Middle of the Bed" recorded a few years after this. ;)
