Chicago - Harry Truman Lyrics

America needs you
Harry Truman
Harry could you please come home
Things are looking bad
I know you would be mad
To see what kind of men
Prevail upon the land you love
America's wondering
How we got here
Harry all we get is lies
We're gettin' safer cars
Rocket ships to mars
From men who'd sell us out
To get themselves a piece of power
We'd love to hear you speak your mind
In plain and simple ways
Call a spade a spade
Like you did back in the day
You would play piano
Each morning walk a mile
Speak of what was going down
With honesty and style
America's calling
Harry Truman
Harry you know what to do
The world is turnin' round and losin' lots of ground
Oh Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Oh woah woah woah
America's calling
Harry Truman
Harry you know what to do
The world is turnin' round
And losin' lots of ground
So Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Oh
Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love
Harry
Harry is there something we can do to save the land we love

If they do a reboot of All in the Family, which they cant, This is the song Archie and Edith would open with

It really is a great song with a catchy 1940s-style tune. Back then, Truman was "Give 'Em Hell, Harry" whom everyone loved, regardless of party affiliation. Let's face it - he ended WWII by authorizing two atom bombs on Japan. But with today's polarized America, this song will never get the deserved accolades, because Truman was a Democrat, which will automatically be ignored by the conservative and alt-right parties.

    K.... C....

No no no, the atomic bomb was Roosevelt's baby.

    K.... C....

jensmom604 That is true, but Truman authorized it. The bombs were under his watch 😊

Kevin Chouinard: There was a time when there were several federal-level Democrats who were respected and admired even by those in the Republican Party.
Harry Truman, Henry "Scoop" Jackson, Sam Nunn, David Boren, Sam Ervin, and Daniel Inouye just to name a few. Democratic statesmen who loved their country. All of these great men inspired confidence from most all Americans at the time. No. I'm not kidding.

Harry would be really pissed if he could see wat the democrats have done to the world in 2019

    stripervince1 Yes. Explain.

michael bledsoe Take a walk in San Francisco and tread on the human feces that Gavin Newsome has allowed to accumulate. Spend a weekend in Baltimore or Chicago and dodge bullets in a Democrat run enclave. Pal around with the pedophile friends of the late Jeffery Epstein or the Hollywood sleazes. The Democrats will gladly show you how it’s done. Go knock on Hillary’s door and ask about Global Shakedowns or chat about body counts. The options are endless.

Republicans have controlled the White House for 39 years since Truman stepped down, Democrats for only 28. If you don't like America today, lay the blame where it belongs.

law2258 Democratic states look pretty good compared to republican ones.

    A little Billy Joel~

    W.... j....

    More like Randy Newman.

  6. G.... ....

#13 Billboard, though it was never included in Chicago's Best Of collections . A novelty song of sorts

    G.... ....

Gregoryt700 Wasn’t included because those collections also get delivered to Japan - and Harry Truman and the Japanese have some history!

    G.... ....

@Rudy Overlord Should have stayed away from Pearl Harbor and the Bataan March. Just saying. Who started it?

  7. I.... ....

The initial arrangement and lyrics are very similar to something Randy Newman would do. And the end is all Sgt. Pepper's.

    I.... ....

    Yes very Beatlesque.

    I.... ....

you are right Ignatius very satirical like a great Randy Newman kind of tune..

    I.... ....

That is funny that you say that, I always used to say that this song sounded like cross between Randy Newman & The Beatles & no one else ever seemed to hear that.

    I.... ....

@michael forsythe most people only know Randy Newman unfortunately for either short people in the 70's or I love LA from Down and Out in Beverly Hills..
they don't look into that first album that everybody's covered songs from from Aaron Neville to more..
