He can sing and play instruments, he is a genuine person too not at all pretentious or self centred, he is quite humble & loves his career not the fame. Chester is good on another level. They are very different but I'm not on about him, I wanted to point out that Ed isn't "over rated"

@Kirsten Docker No, he's not. He's just the only singer-songwriter who's mainstream these days. His lyrics are devoid of deeper meaning and retroactively sentimental, his voice is not versatile in the slightest, and his progressions are rote and unoriginal.

His songs are the kind that the TRUE great singer-songwriters of the ages such as Jim Croce and Gordon Lightfoot would be embarrassed to allow on their albums.

I love his voice all the same but after you've heard a few songs you've heard them all. Each to their own. I personally love eds lyrics. To me they are deep, he wrote small bump about his friends unborn child that never made it, afire love about his grandad who died. They all had a meaning to him when he wrote the lyrics, not like the general lyrics of today's music from other mainstream artists. Singing about made up relationships and scenarios.
