Chesnutt, Mark - Rollin' With The Flow Lyrics
Once was a thought inside my head
'Fore I reached thirty I'd be dead
Somehow on and on I go
I keep on rollin' with the flow
I'd settle down and do just fine
But I still love rock 'n roll
I keep on rollin' with the flow
I got my angel raising kids
I'm raising hell just like I did
I got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins
Some might be calling me a bum
Jesus loves me yes I know
I keep on rollin' with the flow
I got my angel raising kids
I'm raising hell just like I did
I got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins
Can't take it with you when you're gone
But I want enough to get there on
And I ain't never growing old
I keep on rollin' with the flow
Keep on rollin' with the flow

Chesnutt, Mark Rollin' With The Flow Comments
I just now found this. Normally I hate redos because the artist trys to change the song to fit them. Not Mark. You did great buddy.
One of my all time favorite
I keep on rollin with the flow for you Mama💙💔
Love this song, and i don't even like country music.
John Sebastian, national or not,its beautifull :D Not to mention that its me and my life in a song :D

My favorite version by far
Great job Mark!
Just turned 39 last week I'm single no kids and DJ at a strip club. I am this song!
Was Originally a Charlie Rich hit in 1977 ! well done remake 🎤 🎹 🎵
Nice song
Guys my age are raising kids. I'm listening to this great music.
Classic song, Classic Singer! Awesome job Mark.
Great tune! I wish radio would play real country like this and not that over processed crap
I remember hearin' some Mark Chessnutt. I remember he did a remake of this song 10 years ago (2008). 1st Charlie Rich did the song and Charlie Rich is up in Heaven. This year he'll be up in Heaven 4 23 years. Charlie Rich is up there lookin' down and heard Mark do the remake of this song. Country music misses U Charlie down here.
Melissa Ritter well written
Great version, but he changes the line "got my angel raising kids" which he contrast with "but I'm still raising hell".
the lyric is "while guys my age are raisin kids, I'm raisin hell just like I did"
bad ass song great job
I keep on rolling with the flow!!!!
Mark, please make a comeback !!
Not to steal this entire thread about this fantastic version by Mark, but there are a lot of comments here about Jerry Hayes writing this song and that is simply not true.
The song was written by Carrol Quade in the early 70s in Maryland. It was his one of his performing songs in the club circuits in Southern Maryland.
Mr Quade recorded a demo of the song in a studio that guess who worked at? Yes, Jerry Hayes. The original recording did not have a pedal steel player as that was too expensive to add to his demo. However guess what instrument Jerry Hayes played at time. Yes, pedal steel guitar.
Shortly after the demo was recorded Mr. Hayes indicated he filed the registration before Mr. Quade could get the paperwork submitted. After being confronted, Mr Hayes said "too bad, prove it".
The re-release of this song by Mark Chestnut on the June 2008 "Rollin' with the Flow' album, correctly shows the writer as Mr. Quade on the album sleeve and in the credits on the CMTV video. Mr Quade still receives royalty checks from the Mark Chesnutt version, but the Hayes family still receives checks from Epic for the Charlie Rich version.
This is not part of a lawsuit or or money anything like that. Just setting the record straight.
Fantastic information!
As the program director of The Wolf in Dallas I led the way, being the first to play this song and it was number one for 5 weeks for us. But it got me fired because it wasn't a national hit. But the song still gives me chills and brings a tear to my eye. I'll never regret what I did for the sake of a great song and amazing performance.
That REALLY angers me, not only for you John because you were fired but that it confirms what I always suspected that the music list on the radio is played not because of quality but because it's designated by the "machine".
I remember when it came out and I went "whoa!!" 'cause it was totally against the grain.
I can hardly stand the new country of today, it's all homogenized girly, pretty boy crap.
Even though you bucked the system and lost, you TRIED, you got the right to hold yer head up with pride
Sad u lost ur job..... but u did right, just y supporting mark.... one of the best singers we hav ever heard...... deserves so much more recognition, what a voice... u aren’t wrong for supporting him... xx
Right on John
Lucky you have all those Spoonful royalties coming in to tie you over.
Great Version of this song.
Great!!
If you like Mark and Charlie singing this song you should hear Jerry Hayes sing it. He wrote the song and I think no body sings it like he did. Look him up on youtube you will love his song.
nailed it
Where is the Piano ?
The country style piano is what gives it the Richness & Class, that Charlie Rich put into it.
It's what Charlie Rich was known for. Maybe Mark can do, Behind Closed Doors, or maybe, A Very Special Love Song.
The point of covering a song is make it YOUR cover not to make it sound like the original and try to sound like the singer
My new way of living .... being responsible and good all the time ..... hasn't been working for me. So mark ... while your rolling with the flow .... roll by and pick me up !
Try being responsible and good part of the time....baby steps.
Didn't think anyone else could do a great cover, I was wrong!
Awesome job!!!!!! 🇺🇸
Beautiful
i listen to this song every day
No one has ever done this great song as well Mark Chesnutt. It blows me away !
As much as I LOVE Mark Chestnutt, I thought that, before I listened to this, that nobody but Charlie Rich could do this song justice. Well...I was wrong. Mark, you did this song justice!! Oh, thanks for the upload! I know it takes time and energy to do this. :)
WOW Just wow, He did great with this version.
comentario salvaje en español 😎

Love this song and your new song and Oughta Miss Me By Now. I am back listening to country music and loving it.

Mark has a way of doing amazing covers.
Great job. I like that song, no matter who does it. Great song. Mark done good !
Love this version, love Mark Chesnutt
we all can till have fun great man xx
Nicely done! Never knew about this version til I started researching songwriter Jerry Hayes so I could give proper credit when I posted our version. Thanx to Cheryl Bearden's post for some good info on the late Mr.Hayes.
The original writer and recorder of this song that was first released in 1976 was Carrol Quade of Maryland. Jerry Hayes was involved in the production and however falsely took the credits of writer. The second release by Mark Chesnutt that reached #25 in 2008 published by Lofton Creek Records and is also on the 2015 MCA Greatest Hits II by Chesnut shows Mr. Quade as the correct writer. Mr.Quade has been properly receiving royalty payments since 2008s.
Doubtful. Proof, please!
He did a great job on Charlie Rich's song
Mitchum 22 he sure did, mark chesnutt is one of my favorite country singers that is still keeping traditional country alive
He did that! Mark thank you for your version.
I came here thinking no one else should sing this but Charlie Rich but wow Mark Chestnutt aced it. LOVED it!!! One of my all time favorite songs.
mellyp15j mark did very well with this !!!
I couldn't agree more
Amen. Seldom is a cover better . But this is great with Marc's voice. I like this better than Charlie's. Sorry Charlie !
Your right about it. Mark did a great job with this one.
like this version, theme song for my life
@***** I'll still be rollin with the flow.......just somebody will be pushing me along in my wheelchair.
Awesome Cover with Mark Chesnutt. This is just as good as Charlie Rich. I do miss the piano though. Great song by two great singers.
Pure genius by Mark Chesnutt ! This is rapidly becoming my favourite song !
This generation doesn't understand what it means to raise a little cain! I grew up listening to songs like this, and always wanted to have the fun they did. Men like this were people I looked up too! Rough, hard, and old school cowboys! Makes me miss back home in Texas! Afghanistan can suck it! 30 Days left!
Are you deaf & dumb?
hey Mike, you suck a nutt... Mark did a great job on that song!
C'est tout simplement superbe.
Old Charlie Rich song.
Very good! I will be seeing him Saturday. I hope he will sing this.
a great song, and he did a great job with it
No I ain't ever growing old!!
Love this song!
You can't take it with you when you're gone,
But I want enough to get there on. the best line in this song
this very nice version of classic tune
What a fantastic rendition of a true classic, Mark you hit the nail square on the head...........an Awesome job and what a tribute to Charlie Rich dude to praise him with your rendition!!!!!!!!!
I love what Mark did with this song:) He kept it honest and true, laid back the way country music is supposed to be:)
i like both Charlie's and Mark. They are good either way you look at them!
Awesome voice !!!!! Thank you for posting it.
I love his music
hey thanks, but the song more what I was referring to was the song from Leo Sayer. someone corrected me earlier. It aint the same but just about the same idea in a way.
charlie rich rolling with the flow song check it out and tell me if it's song you r looking for
Good cover mark but there's nothing like the original !! Wish we had more music like this today .. love that steel quitar !! DAMN
@SniperSam I meant Leo Sayer lol, I don't know how I thought of Kershaw. thanks for correcting
@SniperSam Leo Sayer, I think. "More than I can say."
@michaelflorida56 ahh, It sounds like Sammy Kershaws "More than I can say"
@michaelflorida56 gah, what song sounds exactly like this but it sounds as if there are different words? It's like a late 70's or early 80's song. I can't put my finger on it.
great cover of a classic
Fantastic... and I agree Mark nailed this song. I've been hoping someone would upload this tune. It's great. I live in St. Louis and this song didn't receive much airplay. Today's country stations seem glued to country pretenders, such as Taylor Swift and others like her. This is what country should sound like. Nice job. Thanks.
@christopherhud HELL YEAH! I saw his video for this on CMY Studio 330 but they did not identify him-as I am new to country music, it took me almost a year to find this!
GREAT song!!!! xo
AHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@kbeazy28 From one servicemember to another: Thanks for your service!
Thanx, Miss Joan, for postin' it. Mark hit #25 in Billboard, in '07, I think. God bless ya, for doin' that!
Ditto on the responses that talk about this song being their life's story. This song captures how I view my life and how I think about life in general - especially the part about "I ain't never growin' old"......definitely one of my all-time top ten favorite songs and no one could have sung it better....
Only chestnutt can be melancholic and happy at the same time.
I Like Heavy Metal but i like this song.
and its still better than Justin Bieber
I really think that the three most UNDER-RATED country music artists ever are Mark Chestnut, Vern Gosdin, and Gene Watson. What a shame. They are great COUNTRY artists!!

Mark played some shows while I was stationed in Korea. He was awesome, and a super nice guy at the meet and greet.
Great version!!! Charlie would be proud!!!
Great music !
