Charlie Rich - Lonely Weekends Lyrics

Well I'm making alright (well I'm making alright)
From Monday morning till Friday night
Oh, those lonely weekends

Since you left me (since you left me)
I'm as lonely as I can be
Oh, those lonely weekends

You said you'd be (ooh-wah) good to me (ooh-wah-wah)
You said our love (ooh-wah) would never die (ooh-wah-wah)
You said you'd be (ooh-wah) good to me (ooh-wah-wah)
But baby, you didn't even try

Well I'm making alright (well I'm making alright)
From Monday morning till Friday night
Oh, those lonely weekends

You said you'd be (ooh-wah) good to me (ooh-wah-wah)
You said our love (ooh-wah) would never die (ooh-wah-wah)
You said you'd be (ooh-wah) good to me (ooh-wah-wah)
But baby, you didn't even try

Well I'm making alright (well I'm making alright)
From Monday morning till Friday night
Oh, those lonely weekends
Oh, those lonely weekends

Oh, those lonely weekends

My favorite Charlie Rich song. However, I would love to have heard Elvis cover this song. It sounds like it would have been tailor made for his wonderful voice.

    M.... F....

    They basically sound the same

Hello pappyvanwinkle 1 Just heard this on Golden Years Radio . net and all the 60's music that gets played takes me back to the good old days when I had a rock band called The Presidents. Our recording of She Said Yeah for Decca in 1965 was lost for 53 years and just released in June 2018 and Golden Years has included it in the playlist. Got the old band back together and made a video so it's me 78 miming to me singing 25 - great fun and who knows we might trend : -) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjcKGcM0Rtc
We used to play Lonely Weekends in our set. Please spread the word and leave a comment if you can Thanks

Haven’t heard this one in a long long time 👍🏻👏🏻🎤🌟❤️‼️

  6. H.... N....

Another early, ' swingin' ' song by Charlie is ' Mohair Sam ' -- Google it. You'll be boppin your heads!

  7. N.... W....

The guy was smokin hit early and older and his lyrics and singing so unappreciative. My alll time favorite bar none

  8. M.... B....

I don't understand why it took him so long to get big. He was basically in his forties when he hit with Behind Closed Doors.

  9. M.... M....

Always wanted to hear ELVIS cover this,GREAT SONG!

  10. S.... H....

Heard this a few days ago ...can't get it out of my head ...lol

  11. B.... B....

Charlie Rich is indeed himself. But if you was to shut your eyes and just listen Elvis's voice is there.Maybe they had the same style back in this time cause I one for one believe it.I never knew about this guy.Much respect Mr.Rich

  12. S.... W....

I met the guy of my dreams while this song was playing my friend was dating him and I punched him in the jaw and I walked away the next day I was sitting on the bus listening to this song with my ear buds in and reading a book, he came and sat down next to me and said his name is Chase and I fell in love instantly and that was 5 (almost 6) years ago ❤️❤️

    Such a great song

  13. M.... F....

There are two songs that I wish Elvis had recorded. This is one of them (perfect for his voice) and the gospel song 'Cool Water'. Regardless, this is a wonderful song by Charlie Rich. Like most songs recorded in this era, it is too short!

  14. R.... ....

    Is it Elv8s?

  15. J.... M....

First time hearing the original. Tom Petty made a pretty good cover.

  16. M.... M....

Charlie wrote this for Jerry Lee Lewis but when Sam Phillips heard him sing it he knew that it would be a hit for Rich and it was.

  17. G.... C....

The sun record artist had there on sound like johnny cash and elvis and charlie rich and jerry lee lewis and especially luther perkins and carl perkins which they were not related

  18. G.... C....

This is my favorite song that charlie rich does sounds a little like elvis presley

  19. L.... ....

The backing vocals sound better here as they appear a little further back in the mix. The Original undubbed 706 Union Avenue cut (minus the echo chamber reverb on the backing vocals and percussion) appeared on the zu-zaz label on vinyl and is worth tracking down‘album ‘ Don’t Put No Headstone On My Grave’..and is hard to find on cd.

  20. D.... D....

thank you, thank you very much...

  21. s.... ....

The version without that God awful chorus is so much better.

  22. A.... O....

When is this guy going to make the Hall of Fame?

  23. G.... C....

    Sitting and thinking

  24. t.... ....

Wow, I've heard this song before, but I could have sworn it was Elvis.

Recently caught the new “Wonder Woman” movie. When Diana tastes ice cream for the first time, she tells the vender, “You should be very proud.” You should, too. Great stills; great song. CR is so cool. Great video. Thank you.

  29. E.... ....

L et me tell you, you guys this was recorded in the late 50's or early 60's at Sun studios in Memphis, I know most of you have no idea of the technical expertise required to give life to a piece, among them the studio effects, God!! The reverberation used by the vocal group on the bridge and chorus is "tru echo" its great, not because its in the tune, but because it was what was available and worked!!!

  30. G.... S....

    Thanks pappy !

  31. K.... E....

It is always discomforting to spend the weekend all by yourself without the one you so sincerely love. Someone has left you forever. This is the sad and bitter truth. Life has served you a raw deal. Never mind. Face it. Your world will not come to an abrupt end because someone has cruelly deserted you. The world stage is unbelievably big. It is filled with promising people. They enter the stage, one after the other, to see that the show goes on and it ends happily.. Hope is infinitely better than hopelessness. Keep hoping. Keep playing. Keep praying. It is infinitely better for you. Be good to yourself. Find a way to be happy.

Elvis was a fan of Charlies too! Both monumental talents

As close to Elvis as there is in a song.

    A.... F....

Exactly, It's like Elvis's vocal clone! Especially, " ... from Monday morning, 'till Friday night." Is it a coincidence that they were Both with 'Sun Records ' too? 🤔

    A.... F....
