Charlie Daniels Band, The - Sweet Louisiana Lyrics

Well, I thought I'd go out to Tulsa
And ride in a rodeo
Red beans and rice sure would be nice
Back where the Mississippi River flows

And it's a long way back to Vicksburg
Mississippi River is muddy and wide
But it don't seem like much
When sweet Louisiana's waitin' on the other side

Well, there's a lot of room up in Canada
Where a man can catch his breath
But the men are bold and the women are cold
And you damn near freeze to death

And it's a long way back to Vicksburg
Mississippi River is muddy and wide
But it don't seem like much
When sweet Louisiana's waitin' on the other side

There's pretty girls in Kansas City
And a man can have a ball
But the women in Ouachita Parish
Drive a young man up the wall

And it's a long way back to Vicksburg
Mississippi River is muddy and wide
But it don't seem like much
When sweet Louisiana's waitin' on the other side

Well, I thought I'd go out to Tulsa
And ride in a rodeo
Red beans and rice sure would be nice
Back where the Mississippi River flows

And it's a long way back to Vicksburg
Mississippi River is muddy and wide
But it don't seem like much
When sweet Louisiana's waitin' on the other side

'Cause it don't seem like much
When sweet Louisiana's waitin' on the other side

Charlie Daniels Band, The Sweet Louisiana Comments
  1. Thomas Tarwater

I first heard this song back in 1976 and was hoping it would be another top-40 hit for the CDB. Didn't happen, though. I was just so blown away from Charlie Daniels putting the fire on those six strings of his Gibson Les Paul. Every time I hear this song, I swear it keeps getting better all the time. Thanks to Charlie Daniels (slide guitar/vocals), Tom Crain (guitar/back vocals), Joel "Taz" Digregorio (keyboards/back vocals), Charlie Hayward (bass), Fred Allen (drums/percussion) and Don Murray (drums/percussion) for making it all happen and thanks to producer Paul Hornsby for getting all of the Saddle Tramp album on audiotape at Capricorn Sound Studios, Macon, Georgia. Awesome.

I remember well those days back in 1976 when me and my buddies would call up KFXM59 and request this tune on the radio....still sounds as goddamn good with a belly full of booze as it did back then...

  3. Tomas William Tomerlin

    Been there done this .

  4. Janetta McGee

Hadn't heard this song in 40 years. It's just a great as I remembered. Saw him at the NRA convention last here and he still kicks it. Thanks for posting this.

I'm from Louisiana and yes the swamp is pretty bad but alot of people live out there with out electricity and they love it that way...... I don't live near the swamp tho lol

Yeap, born in Union, raised-up in Ouachita. Notoriously beautiful Women.

  22. Stan Armstrong

Are you kidding me, back in the late 70s we would work out to this, listening to our eight tracks. Every track on this album is absolutely great. I still use lyrics from the song Sweet water Texas. And I live in Las Vegas.

  23. Marjo Wielinga

    Good one!

  24. RIP Smokin Joe

REAL music from one of the best. You can take most of those "pop" songs that Charlie was famous for and pitch em. THIS song blows those "Devil went Down" whatever tunes away!

  25. T Lewis

Yea. Ol Willie and Jas live within a 100 yards of me.
