Charlie Daniels Band, The - No Place To Go Lyrics

When a man's been mistreated
When he been kicked around
He been laughed at and lied to
Well yeah know he keeps going down

When a man hits bottom
Woman I know, yes I know
Ain't no place left to go
Ain't no place left to go

I been locked down by a woman
Locked out in the street
I been locked up in the jailhouse
I been locked into a bad, bad dream

When a man hits bottom
Tell you for sure
Ain't no place left to go
Ain't no place left to go

Well... blue is my color
Misery my ball and chain
13 is my number
Hard luck is my middle name

When a man hits bottom
Tell you for sure
Ain't no place left to go
Ain't no place left to go

Well... blue is my color
Misery my ball and chain
13 is my number
Hard luck is my middle name

When a man hits bottom
Tell you for sure
Ain't no place left to go
Ain't no place left to go
Ain't no place left to go
Oh yeah
Ain't no place left to go
...

My vinyl copy had the jam session on a separate small record hidden in the sleeve

  3. J.... L....

Heavily influenced by the Allman Brothers

  4. D.... F....

Amen. The live version at the Volunteer Jam is a tour de force. Have always
been into Southern Rock. Outlaws, MT, CD, et al. Then came Mother's Finest. The South did it all. Can't explain, but I am imminently grateful for
all of it. Yes, Skynyrd, but Wet Willie and on. Seminal music, and I love it all

  5. J.... F....

My Favorite CDB album , before he sold out and went completely country

  6. A.... C....

was blessed to see charlie daniels band back in the late 70s , every member of that band was tight with the rest of the band , one of the best concerts ive been to !!! the old hippie " byrdman 62 "! !!!!!

  7. b.... ....

Barry Barnes on Lead Guitar, Mark Frizgerald on Bass Guitar and Gary Allen on Drums, 3 ex-members of the CDB and Fire On The Mountain was their last lp with Charlie Daniels.

Wait! Is this the same Charlie "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" Daniels? What a completely different sound! Country fiddle, and blues Hammond B-3/searing lead guitar can hardly be compared to one another. It's almost like the monumental difference between Kenny Rogers in the late 70's/early 80's, and the "See what condition my condition was in" Kenny Rogers of 1968!
My point being, this is some good stuff.

    B.... ....

Three of the musicians playing on Fire on the Mountain (Barry Barnes-lead guitar, Mark Fitzgerald-bass and Gary Allen-drums) had left the band.

  10. B.... C....

Love the bass line in this tune.

  11. B.... T....

Up there with a Allman Brothers Jam!!

  12. H.... O....

I've been listening to CDB since the early 70s, .. still great!!!

  13. H.... O....

No place left to go, .. Saddle Tramp, .. It's my life, .. New York City King Sized Rosewood bed, .. CDB demolishes the notion that they're so backwoods country band!

  14. B.... T....

That Bass Line!! Most Underrated CDB Song Ever!

    B.... T....

    Well... blue is my color
    Misery my ball and chain
    13 is my number
Hard luck is my middle name

  15. H.... P....

Man Taz could rock some keyboards.............rip Taz......!

  16. H.... P....

I totally agree.............one of Charlie's best... !! I believe Mark Fitzgerald was playing bass......Wonder what ever happened to him...??

    H.... P....

Yes, it was Mark Fitzgerald and Barry Barnes playing Lead Guitar, Gary Allen on Drums who were 3 ex-members of the CDB. Their last lp was Fire On The Mountain

    H.... P....

After making music with other ex-CDBers for a while, I "heard" he moved back home (?) and kept making music! :)

  17. J.... B....

Rainbow Ride is great jam as well fellas...

  18. D.... S....

Drums are absolutely spot fucking on.

  19. D.... M....

If it weren't for my pops, I'd woulda never heard this album. Caught this in the mid to late 80's with all that was MTV. I'm a huge metal fan; but this - this whole album helped shape my idea that I needed to really open up about different kinds of music just for the fact of the musicianship. My dad and uncle played in a country and Rick bad and "South's Gonna" was probably their favorite besides Green River (CCR). I like them all - but this song is something so special and is without a doubt one of my favorite CDB songs! Great work!!

    D.... M....

    Duzzit Matter
    .

  20. J.... W....

the best song they ever did no doubt

  21. J.... W....

the best song they ever did no doubt

  22. T.... P....

I wouldn't trade this musical generation for anything none of the rest even compare to it

  23. T.... P....

this is one of the best Charlie Daniels songs

  24. J.... J....

This song describes my life right now.

    J.... J....

+Jason Johnson Hope you're finding your way up, Jason. Peace, man.

  25. M.... A....

My favorite CDB song of all time.

    M.... A....

Charlie here is a great bluesman

  26. E.... G....

A song for the modern day man reality. "Aint no place left to go" aint that the damn truth. No where to go because the modern man- in our world is born guilty- and it goes downhill from their.

  27. M.... M....

HOW BLUE IS MONTANA !!!!!! Oh Man why oh why can't the record exec fuck heads understand how we need more of this today? Thank God we grew up hearing it.Amen.

  28. m.... ....

I would like to thank 40ne9Productions and JustAin'tThatWay for your kind comments on my bass  playing. I was a barely 20 yrs old. Thanks

    m.... ....

I remember seeing you on tour promoting this album and noticing how young you were and what great chops you had.  Felt Forum, NYC November 1974 opening for MTB.  (James Cotton Blues Band was the first opener)  I had not ever heard of the CDB prior to that, but became an instant fan!  Those were the days of Great Southern Rock.  Original Lineup of Skynyrd, MTB, Lamar Williams, Chuck Chuck Leavell and Dicky Betts still with The ABB.  (Although I was fortunate enough to see them with both Duane & Berry)

    m.... ....

@Kwikshots1 I remember our shows up there and we couldn't have had a better response! A couple of us are starting to write a book....and we have some great stories to tell !! Long live Southern Rock!!

    m.... ....

    mfitzster
I was 17 in 1974 and have listened to this record since then.
13 years as a touring guitar tech and 20 years as a Union and non Union stagehand.
Were you formally taught music and if so, by who?
Do you play any other instruments? It seems a lot of bass players do.
Got any good crew or guitar tech stories? That would be interesting.
    I sure do. ;)

    m.... ....

mfitzster- Your performance on this live recording is truly legendary as far as I'm concerned. From the opening bass lines through all the time changes, you walk up and down the neck while hitting the kicks with the drummers with such precision, I've rarely heard a more dynamic rendition of this song. Since this is the earliest version I'm aware of, can I ask, did you write your parts or were you influenced by someone else? Hope you're doing well, and thanks for your contribution to CDB and to music as a whole.

    m.... ....

You guys were on fire nightly Mark!

  29. M.... N....

Joel (Taz) made this song what it is! RIP buddy!

  30. J.... ....

Cholly Dannells. Go git 'em old man. Wait you don't have to anymore buddy. you already did.
Peace & love to the uneasy rider hisself - from a short-haired city boy appreciative of a full-fledged fair square
been there done that authentic as a well worn wagon wheel (missing a spoke or two) blues man frontman of the
    CDB.

    J.... ....

Thanks for the kind words about my bass playing. Still the best bass line ever!!! Thanks!

  31. m.... c....

CDB was great right up until Charlie became a Christian hypocrite

    m.... c....

He can still jam like this though, that's good for 80 years old. His patriotic songs I like, but his delusion that Christianity has anything to do with America gets old

    m.... c....

mi channnal if you don't want to believe in Jesus, that's okay. No one is asking you to. But don't berate someone else for believing okay.

  32. k.... f....

Right up there with those great Allman Brothers jams.

    k.... f....

known fact I thought that it was the Allman brothers the first time I heard it!

  33. J.... D....

    GREAT SONG.....THANX FOR THE POST!

  34. P.... P....

Received a new turntable for Mothers Day, this is the first album I put on, No Place Left to Go, one of my very favorite CDB tunes. Wow we had some greT Southern Rock in the 70's

    P.... P....

    Thank you.

  35. b.... ....

What a great artist and what a great band he had back in this era. So underrated. fantastic song.

  36. C.... F....

Great album! completely forgot about Charlies music. Great Cruising music.

  37. 4.... ....

Oh man, I completely agree. Reminds me a lot of Allen Woody, the late and great bass player for Gov't Mule. Check out some of their older stuff (he passed in 2001 or 2002 I think...way too soon) that he played on. Flowing bass patterns while Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are jamming all around it.

This song though... what an incredible display of talent all around, but that bass just blows me away.

  38. J.... ....

    blue is my color

misery ... my ball & chain

    13 is my number ...

    hard luck my middle name

  39. J.... ....

to this day - 30+ years on - still he coolest bass pattern
    ive ever heard

  40. t.... w....

some of the best music ever put in a package the CDBNO.1

  41. j.... d....
