Charley Pride - Streets of Baltimore Lyrics
Sold the farm to take my woman where she longed to be
We left our kin and all our friends back there in Tennssee
Bought those oneway tickets she had often begged me for
And they took us to the streets of Baltimore.
She said the prettiest place on earth is Baltimore at night
Oh well, a man feels proud to give his woman what she's longing for
And I kind of liked the streets of Baltimore.
Then I got myself a factory job I ran an old machine
Bought a little cottage in a neighborhood serene
Every night when I came home with every muscle sore
She would drag me through the streets of Baltimore.
Well, I tried my best to bring her back to what she used to be
Well, I'm a going back on that same train that brought me here before
While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore.
Yes, my baby walks the streets of Baltimore...

Best version of this is by Des Kelly and the Capitol Showband
Love this song
Sold the farm to take my woman
Where she longed to be
We left our kin and all our friends
Back there in Tennessee
Bought those oneway tickets
She had often begged me for
And they took us to the streets of Baltimore.
Her heart was filled with laughter
When she saw those city lights
She said the prettiest place on earth
Is Baltimore at night

Oh well, a man feels proud to give his woman
What she's longing for
And I kind of liked the streets of Baltimore.
Then I got myself a factory job I ran an old machine
Bought a little cottage in a neighborhood serene
Every night when I came home
With every muscle sore
She would drag me through the streets of Baltimore.
Well, I tried my best to bring her back
To what she used to be
But I soon learned she loved those bright lights
Much more than she loved me
Well, I'm going back on that same train
That brought me here before
While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore.
Yes, my baby walks the streets of Baltimore.....

Better than the Bobby Bare original.
I love the pleading emotion in his voice--showcased very nicely in this treasure from my favorite, Mr. Charlie Pride.
No one could replace this man. Such a gentleman and appresitive of what he has. He sounds the same on stage as he does in recordings.

Is this version from the "Live @ Panther Hall" record? I had that 8-track growing up. I still have a cassette version that I recorded straight from the 8-track onto my portable. High tech! Love it! All the car rides listening to that album.... Thanks for posting.

Charlie Did His Version Live Bare Did His Version In A Studio You Tell Me What It's Like To Perform In Front Of A Live Audience Compared To A Closed Studio.
Great version!!
Panther Hall was a tour de force for Lloyd. Charlie sings his ass off, but it's Lloyd that pulls me back
The best version by far, produced by Cowboy Jack Clement was by the guy who wrote it with Harlan Howard - Tompall Glaser. Takes a minute extra as they don't rush it looking for radio play. A real performance worth finding.
hey Randy, right on.looks like such a nice city.im at manitoba Canada.
The riots of Baltimore brought me here. Like if that's why you're here too.
BURN,BABY,BURN!
@Mark Bartlett Fire really makes those bright lights in Baltimore seem dim, Now doesn't it? Mr. Wipple would turn over in his grave, because in Baltimore the toilet paper doesn't feel like Toilet Paper anymore. Only fire bombs.
@anAHDAMofYAH Very good...Wonder what ol` Mr.Wipple is up to these days...
@Mark Bartlett Somewhere in far beyond, & the hereafter squeezing his Charmin I suppose.
I love Charlie Pride, but Bobby Bare's cover of this song is much better IMHO.
@awe1953 Not better, just different, brother.
@Jay Motensen Can't argue with your logic, that's very true! Bobby's version just comes across to me as more moody, soul-stirring, and heart wrenching. Both artist do a great job however.
The first time I heard this song I knew I had to learn and sing it.... Those who loved country music all said I did a great job.... Well in the good old day at least....lol :)
tar my tilbake 63 min første tur til sjøs besøkte alle byer langs kysten fra new york
