I have heard this song sung twice during my ninty years on this earth. Both times during very stressful and emotional times. The first time was by a bunch of Marines in Korea. It was the summer of 1952 along the western front opposite Panmunjom where the peace talks were supposed to be going on but weren't. These Marines sung the song in honor of a Sargent who had died from his wounds . The second was this past December when I heard it sung by my wife's niece and her two boys at their fathers grave side funeral.

a few years ago Charlie was coming to Alberta Ca.to play and an elderly lady purchased her tickets from a scalper way over priced. Well Charlie learned of this a few manths later and contacted her and reembursed her for her scalped ticket and more😊 i think hes a fine gentleman and God bless him.

I'm an atheist from California, and somehow I still find great pleasure and peace in old country gospel. There's the beauty of serenity, and of joy, in these songs, and Charley Pride sung 'em just as good as you can sing 'em. You don't have to believe in religious dogma to accept this.
Also: Pride isn't nearly as recognized as he deserves to be.

Doesn't matter if you believe in God or not he knows your name and he loves you. Jesus is still your savior if you give your heart to him. He already bought your ticket to heaven. It's paid for. All you have to do is repent of your sins and accept him as your savior. It's not about religion it's about someone that loved you enough to take a terrible beating and die on a cross so you won't have to die twice. I pray you will get to know Jesus.

The really funny thing about listening to this beautifully sung piece of superstition, is imagining how much all the Christians who profess to love it and share its sentiment, would hate  and denounce exactly the same sentiment in an Islamic hymn.

The catholic church burnt many people alive for claiming otherwise, and threatened to do for Galileo for his work, so you are full of shit. And the church claimed for more than a thousand years that the Earth was fixed and the heavens revolved.

You counter this with your claim about what is or is not in scripture . . . not thinking is a common problem for believers, you are not encouraged to think so have no aptitude at it. When we speak out and reason, some of you are rescued from your ignorance. The best example I ever knew of this was a very rational guy who was religious JUST because he had been brought up in  it. We made him angry and he was determined to "prove" his reasons for belief were at least a bit valid.
