Charles, Ray - You Were Never Lovelier Lyrics

I was never able to recite a fable
That would make the party bright;
Sitting at the table I was never able
To become the host's delight;
But now you've given me my after dinner story,
I'll just describe you as you are in all your glory.

[Chorus:]
You were never lovelier,
You were never so fair,
Dreams were never lovelier,
Pardon me if I stare.

Down the sky the moonbeams fly to light your face;
I can only say they chose the proper place.
You were never lovelier,
And to coin a new phrase;
I was never luckier in my palmiest days.
Make a note, and you can quote me,
Honor bright,
You were never lovelier than you are tonight.

[Chorus]

    Yea, but. Why did she give in? All he said was, "I get a boner when I look at you." Nothing else. If I say that to Rita, will she tell me she loves me too?

    Adolphe Menjou was a silent actor and was OK, I suppose, but his acting in a sound movie was abysmal. He was probably there because of his name...

    Astaire was one lucky old fool. He was always being paired up with very young and beautiful women.

    H.... d....

    He wasn't always old. And later on only the younger ones could not only keep up and look right with him. Dancing is a visual art. He stayed at his peak as a dancer for an extraordinary length of time. Mostly, they are past their best by their mid to late thirties.

    @Chattyroz Ha ha. Of course" He wasn't always old". You are right that it would take a younger woman to keep up with him, but I noticed that many other actors who DID NOT dance were also paired up with leading ladies up to 30 years their junior.

    What stunning dress that matches the stunning woman wearing it & Fred was one of a kind.

    So innocent “now I can’t think of a darn thing” or “oh you’re terrific” 😂

    ...great scene, great acting, great actors
    shit song

    d.... ....

    Listen to it once or twice more. You might change your mind. No one wrote romantic songs better than Jerome Kern.

    1:02 - I'm with you, Fred. If I was looking into Rita Hayworth's eyes, I wouldn't be able to say one word.

  13. C.... ....

    His singing is as good as his dancing, and that's really saying something.

  14. d.... ....

    Strange the differences between fantasy and fact. Rita's "real" name was Margarita Carmen Cansino, Fred's Fred Austerlitz. At the time this film was made, 1942, she was 24 years old, he 43. It was the middle of WWII. She later died of complications of Alzheimer's disease; they both died in the same year, 1987.

    :43 to 1:40 ... that. is. romance. you don't find anything like this anymore.

    EUDEA1 agreed my friend

    Yes, Rita was talented and beautiful. But think the great talent here was Fred Astaire and composer Jerome Kern who wrote the musical score. Fred Astaire made all his dancing/singing partners look good: Joan Leslie, Ginger Rogers, Cyd Charrise and a few others I can't remember.
    But class and elegance it was, the golden age of Hollywood.

    rita hayworth looks stunning in this dress..and oh my gosh her eyes are so beautiful in 2:38-2:45

  22. L.... K....

    how does she do that?? that look she gives him starting at 0:52. so glamorous and gorgeous with out trying.

    L.... K....

    She can because she's Rita Hayworth, there has simply never been another. One of the most beautiful women in the world and a beautiful dancer, was Rita. Tragically she died of Alzheimers before it was recognised and she had a bad time from people who didn't understand what it was. They all just thought she was a supreme bitch and she was terribly ill.

  23. a.... ....
