Charles, Ray - I've Got News For You Lyrics

You said before me met
That your life was awful tame
Well, I took you to a night club
And the whole band knew your name. Oh,
Well, baby, baby, baby
I've Got News For You
Oh, somehow your story don't ring true,
Well, I've got news for you.
Well, you phoned me you'd be late
Cause you took the wrong express
And then you walked in smiling
With your lipstick all a mess
Oh, let me say to you little mama,
Wo, I've Got News for you
Ah, your story don't ring true lil girl
Yeah, I've got news for you.

[Instrumental - Subdominant Bridge]
[A Section Solo]

Oh, you wore a diamond watch,
Claimed it was from Uncle Joe.
When I looked at the inscription
It said love from Daddy-O.
Oh, well baby, wo lil girl, I wanna say
I've Got News For You.
Ah, if you think that jive will do
Let me tell you, oh,
I've Got News For You
Well, somehow your story don't ring true
Wo, I've Got News For You.

Genius + Soul = Jazz is a 1961 album by Ray Charles featuring big band arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns. This particular number was arranged by the late great Ralph Burns. Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns were an unbeatable one two punch.

One of the "Great Albums" of all-time - being an "old man", I went down and picked it up the day it was released in 1961 - it sounds just as good today as it did then - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ" (and Ray Charles)

  19. N.... ....

    Wonderful!!!

  20. M.... ....

    GREAT!!!!!

  21. C.... P....

clark beckham sure can do his songs so good

  22. M.... ....

Fuckin' QUINCEY!  made them ALL look and sound GREAT!

    M.... ....

    +MrDrewlips Ain't THAT the truth!

  23. M.... C....

Brother Ray mixes jazz and blues, and makes soul! That's why he was "The Genius"! His organ playing is on fire, and Quincy Jones' arrangement makes this pure magic!

  24. g.... ....

This track really shows the versatility of Ray Charles.  Jazz, country, rhythm and blues, he could do it all at such an incredible level.  This track really burns.  We'll never see the likes of him again!

  25. e.... ....

This rendition ROCKS - nobody can hold a candle to Mr. RAY CHARLES !!!!!!!!!

  26. T.... W....

Edgar Winter did a great arrangement of this too.

  27. J.... N....

Impulse Records was the jazz subsidiary of ABC-Paramount.

  28. M.... ....

    You wore a diamond watch.
Said it was from Uncle Joe.
When I looked at the inscription
    It said Love, From Daddy-O.

  29. k.... ....

Ray just signed with ABC Paramount but this was released on Impulse records. Anybody tell the connection?

    k.... ....

Impulse was ABC Paramount's jazz label!

  30. a.... ....

Oh man, finding this was such a treasure. Pure Ray!!

  31. e.... ....

Oh, man... Basie big band behind Ray shoutin' such a fantastic blues tune.. in 8 months this has gotten 256 views? You simply gotta be kidding....For the record, this is from the 1961 album, "Genius + Soul = Jazz".. I was born in '61, but as a musician this is the music I live and breathe-- Modern jazz and blues from 1945-1965 (excluding free jazz)... Thanks for posting this!
