Charles, Ray - Early In The Morning Lyrics
Early in the morning and I can't get right, now
Had a little date with my baby last night, now
And it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
I know it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
Hey, I ain't got nothin' but the blues (blues)
I went to all the places where we used to go
I went to her house but she don't live there no more
Well it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
And I know it's early in the morning, yeah (early in the morning)
Early in the morning, yeah (early in the morning)
I ain't got nothin' but the blues (blues)
I knocked on her fathers door and he began to shout, "Get away from here boy"
Yes, early in the morning (early in the morning)
I know it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning, yeah (early in the morning)
I ain't got nothin' but the blues (blues)
I went to Dooky Chase's to get something to eat
The waitress looked at me and said, "Ray, you sure look beat"
Now it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
I told 'em it was in the morning, now (early in the morning)
Yeah, early in the morning (early in the morning)
Yeah, I ain't got nothin' but the blues (blues)
I had a lot of money when I started out
Can't find my baby now my money run out, now
Yeah, early in the morning (early in the morning)
Whoa, it's early in the morning (early in the morning)
Yeah, early in the morning (early in the morning)
Yeah, I ain't got nothin' but the blues (blues)
Yeah, early in the morning (early in the morning, yeah)
I ain't got nothin' but the blues, now

I need to buy this album for when article 13 takes away all the beautiful music
Was lucky to see him play in Greenville, SC back in the 90's.
Another great musician who has gone to a better place!!

1962 maybe 1963, Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles Ca. A night to remember. Ray and the Raylettes on stage. They performed this song and many others for us. Early in the morn'n my fave. Best show I've ever attended. My older brother around 21 at the time and me a whopping 13 all dressed up in our 3 piece corduroy suits and all, look'n good. His wife standing out catching all the looks you know.
I'm now 71, my brother 79. Suits long gone but, both wishing we could go and do it again. Truly...... A night to remember.. RIP Ray and thanks for being part of my life. Johnny Mac, AZ.
Vickie Mc , I read your story about you and your family going to see Ray Charles back in 62/63 .It’s amazing the things that touch our souls and certain people have the ability to touch peoples souls quite deeply ,Ray Charles was one of those people. I was watching a program called speakeasy where Michael McDonald was doing an interview with Ted Tillman and they spoke highly about Ray Charles they spoke about this album The genius of Ray Charles while listening to that I found your story. I pray you and your brother are well and I’m happy for you to have such wonderful memories . thank you for telling your story. I pray you have peace love and joy in your heart and I also pray that you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior ,have a wonderful day today . May God bless those who call him father thank you again Pastor Paul D

Thank you for posting sir!

brilliant. Ray on the hammond B3, David Fathead Newman, Margie Hendricks -- this is as good as it gets.
That is not a Hammond B3. It is a Wurlitzer piano he in playing.
Hammond B3? There is no organ in this rec, Ray is playing what sounds like a Wulritzer piano, same one the Captain (of Teneal) used. They were awful keyboards.
"I went to Dooky Chase to get something to eat..waitress looked at me and said 'Ray ya sure look beat.." Whoa!!
I like the Louis Jordan version, but I think Ray's version is absolute dy-no-mite!! Pure genius.
This is one of my favourite Ray Charles recordings - although it IS a cover of the great Louis Jordan
