Back in the 70s when I was a little tyke, I remember being in the back seat of my parent's car with my little brother listening to this song play on my dad's 8-track tape player on his car stereo during family trips to go visit my grandmother out of state. My dad would play mostly Ray Charles & Al Green music and my mom would play Aretha Franklin & The Staple Singers music. LOL. Hearing this Ray Charles song brings back all those memories lol.

Is this a Christmas song in the traditional sense or is it just a cold weather song that gets played mostly during Christmas time? Usually, in February, when the weather is the coldest, me and the wife like to cuddle in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine or some hot apple cider and put this song on.

This type of repetitive four-note melody is like a prison for an otherwise florid stylist like Betty. But she was a sport and sung it as written. I keep wishing she'll take off on one of her croon, bellow, and scat journeys but she stays the course. She is, after all, playing an innocent good girl. Curses!!!

But her phrasing is extraordinary. Thye both should have won oscars for their performance of it.
