Chapman, Steven Curtis - Believe Me Now Lyrics

[Verse 1:]
I watch you looking out
Across the raging water
So sure your only hope
Lies on the other side

You hear the enemy
That's closing in around you
And I know that you don't have the strength to fight
But do you have the faith to stand and...

[Chorus A:]
Believe Me now, believe Me here
Remember all the times I've told you loud and clear
I am with you and I am for you
So believe Me now, believe Me now

[Verse 2:]
I am the One who waved my hand
And split the ocean
I am the One who spoke the words
And raised the dead

And I've loved you long before
I set the world in motion
I know all the fears you're feeling now
But do you remember who I am?
Do you...

[Chorus A]

[Chorus B:]
So believe Me now, Believe it's true
I never have, I never will abandon you
And the God that I have always been
I will forever be
So believe Me now

[Bridge:]
I am the God who never wastes a single hurt that you endure
My words are true and all My promises are sure
So believe Me now
Oh, believe Me now

Christmas eve 2004, I bought the then new CD "All Things New" while finishing my Christmas shopping. A month earlier, an unwanted divorce was final and I was preparing to spend my first Christmas alone. Six years earlier I had quit a 14 yrs career, moved my family to another state in order to attend seminary and answer God's call to ministry. There I sat in a Mardel's parking lot having basically lost "everything" listening to a new CD from my favorite artist, desperately needing hope. In that moment "Believe Me Now," was like a divine appointment with God. The line "I know all the fears you are feeling now, BUT do you remember who I AM?" was overwhelming. God has always been absolutely faithful and trustworthy in my life. This song made me remember and know that He is still God. He had NOT abandoned me and NOTHING is impossible for Him. Without the message of this song, I was so low, I may not have made it through the holidays. Even now, I can't share this without my eyes leaking. God is SO GOOD!!

Had the privilege of meeting and thanking Steven last Sunday night at his Houston "Solo" concert. Did not share this story with him because time was limited and my son predicted I would cry when we met. No doubt about it, had I shared this story. Thank you again, Steven! … this is one small example of the many ways God has used your music to impact my life.

Gerald, thanks for sharing this moving part of your life. I can' tell you how many times the Lord has reached me through Christian music, grabbed my heart and soul and made Himself so real. He allows pain in our lives because He loves us, and we learn to trust the Hand that holds us. I pray the Lord lifts you up, and uses you in His mighty plan.

I fell in love with this song the very first time I listened to it. I felt as though God was reaching through the lyrics telling me to be courageous in the face of a chaotic world.
With all the troubles and violence, the disharmony and hatred that permeates the world, Our Heavenly Father is steadfast and certain in His love for us.
I’ve always returned to this song as a reminder that I don’t have to possess the skill, the courage or the intellect to respond to those around me who would attempt to damage or destroy my faith. I only need to remember that if I stand in Faith, acknowledging His Faithfulness, boldly proclaiming His Sovereignty, no one can stand against me, because He is with me.
My little mustard seed of Faith can be the mountain upon which I can stand, knowing that The Creator of Heaven and Earth has got my back.
May God richly bless you, Steven Curtis Chapman. Thank you for being a conduit through which the Holy Spirit can speak to so many of us!
