Chaka Khan - We Can Work It Out Lyrics
Life is very short
And there's no time
For fussing and fighting
So I'll ask you once again
Do I have to keep on talking
Until I can't go on
Boy you see it your way
You run the risk of knowing
That our love will soon be gone
We can work it out
We can work it out
Hear what you're saying
And still you think that it's alright
Hear what I'm saying
We can work it out
And when it's straight, we'll say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short
And there's no time
For fussing and fighting
I've have ways thought
That it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right
Or if I am wrong
Boy you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart
Before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short
And there's no time, no time
For fussing and fighting
I've have ways thought
That it's a crime (dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty)
So I will ask you once again

Loved this album
I played it ALL THE TIME
I nearly died when I heard that opening line for the first time ... heaven sent
i remember when this album was released I took it to a gay club here in Perth and asked the DJ to play it. He did and it blew everyone away. The DJ kept the LP n played it many more times and when the song came in the vibe was amazing. Ms Khan rocked then she rocks now

Steve Wonder his version IS THE BEST !!!!
My HS classmate just hipped me to this cover of the Beatles' song just now...OMIGOD! THIS IS AWESOME!!! Thanks for posting
Chaka Khan gave this Beatles classic her FIRE! And the musicians on this track put the funk on it! I'm sure John Lennon and Paul McCartney were quite pleased!
Tyrone Williams
John Lennon died just before the release of this song.

Greg P's bass lines... killer.
Everyone's statement has been Fantastic, and Spot-On. Next time you play cut, Blast It! AND LISTEN TO THAT BAND. WOW.
Chaka sure made this song work out!
AWESOME! thanks for posting :) been in love with this for 35 years!!!
The rhythm section who played on the track was Greg Phillinganes on Keyboards & Moog Bass, Michael Sembello on Guitar and Raymond Pounds on Drums. All 3 were musicians in Stevie Wonder's band "Wonderlove" and played on the "Songs In The Key of Life" album. Greg did the rhythm arrangement and Arif Mardin produced the track. Greg played on Michael Jackson's solo albums "Off The Wall" "Thriller," "and Bad." He was also Michael Jackson's musical director on tour and was a studio musician on many hit songs in the 80's including many that Quincy Jones produced. I was blessed to be in the studio the day they cut the rhythm track for this song. It was an amazing session!
Thanks for sharing.
Greg also played for Toto on one record. Great story, you're very lucky indeed.
David Bryant
Great info.... Phillinganes is a beast of a musician and Stevie only surrounded himself with the best including backing vocalists too... I remember this version and it's groove is mad... But stevies cover is still the best in my opinion ....and Paul McCartneys 🙂
God bless you for this information!
David Bryant thx a lot
What R&B tracks didn't Jerry Hey and the Seawind Horns didn't play on in the early '80s?
Fans, Listen to this Band behind her. that Bass and Acoustic Guitar's Killing It. Sorry Beatles but she made this track Better.
first of all the Beatles wrote it so no, Chaka Khan did not do it better, and comparing artists like track athletes is a chump game anyway.
LOL Shut up. Dumb logic. Artist out perform the original composers all the time. Ever heard Hello it's Me by the Isley Brothers, than by its composer? No comparison. Or, any cover Aretha Franklin ever did!
Most songwriters don't sing their songs so the logic is faulty...and her voice elevates the song to the very promise the lyrics state..the Beatles version is unsteady confidence..no one believes they could actually "work it out" with Chaka you are sold on the idea.
will the Non musicians please stop! There is no remake without the original!
TMS999 it's that good I forgot it was a Beatles cover he he for real was not even thinking about the original when I borrowed it from Birmingham central library back in 2004 on CD
Damn straight Chaka took this song to the next level! The woman is a genius!
The most incredible voice around the world...!
"everything of the spirit of the world is divine so long as it comes from within the world's child and not mechanized by any outside human tainted examples of perdition"
Chaka baby girl! Those sultry pipes working your heat into a Beatles classic! Girl, you kickin' ass with this!!
LIFE IS VERY SHORT, MAKE THE BEST OF IT AND BE THE BEST YOU CAN. LET MS. CK GUIDE YOU
It's not often that covers surpass the original version. This one definitely does, as the vocals to the musicians to the production, all stellar. Gotta give props to Sir Paul McCartney for writing a(nother) classic song, but I'm sure he might even have to agree that Chaka did her thing on this one. Been a favorite of mine since I first bought this. Actually, the whole LP is what I think, one of her best post-Rufus.
Thanks so much for posting!
Driving ass synth bass!!!
+1 if you are here because of Bass Player Magazine
Nope! Arif Mardin (genius!) was CK's producer for most of all her solo albums, letting others in starting w "I Feel For You", including his son Joe Mardin, among others. Russ Titlelman who is a big CK fan and has done almost everything in the music biz produced Rufus and Chaka's swan song album (including "Ain't Nobody"). His work is prominently featured on the cd called "C.K." aswell he did Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" and the cd it comes from.
Did Arif Mardin also do "Ain't Nobody"?
gibshillpics no Russ Titleman produced that.
Naw. Stevie's prob inspired CK - especially the version she used to do with Rufus (1974 clip) but Arif Mardin wrote charts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean he totally ... was amazing and put the funk in this as he did for George Benson on "Feel Like Making Love", and when Aretha 'borrowed" him back he funked up "Hold On! I'm Comin'" like nobody's business.
DITTO! Still played a LOT by me. CK and the late Arif Mardin really did some innovative things with her music. Something on each album. And the "I Feel For You" project ... Ahead of it's time in many ways, if you really listen to it.
He did it before chaka yes, not before the beatles though.
Stevie did it first!
Stevie Wonder does a great cover of this song also. check it out. I prefer his though i do love chaka
BEST BEATLE COVER EVER!!!!!!
i finally found this song . greg p.rocks the bass on keyboard. its fire!!

BRILLIANT work!
Thank you Arif and Chaka.
Great Bass Moog !!!!
her work w/ Arif Mardin is legendary. I love this whole album!
When I first heard this version, I was in disbelief , stunned, and hooked on this version to this day! After this slammin song was over, my mouth was still open! I love Chaka Khan!!!!!!!!!!
