Chaka Khan - Best In The West Lyrics

Best in the west, that's your name
Makin' love's your claim to fame
Better than the best, oh everyone say
How'd he learn to love that way

You're the best in the west
You're a tough sharp shooter
And you aim to win
And I wish you'd love me now
Like you did then
You're the best in the west
You're the best I've ever had
A naughty boy
And the memory of you fills me with joy
Let's do it again, let's do it again

Best in the west, when you were five
Kissed the girls and made them cry
Better than the best, oh you built your place
Lovin' is a symphony

You're the best in the west
You've been a ladies man with class
Since way back when
And you stand so high above all the men
You're the best in the west
And your lovin' seemed to fell me
From the start
And the fantasy of you is in my heart
Let's do it again, let's do it again
Let's do it again, (Ooh let's do it, baby)
Let's do it again
(The way you do it, baby's good to me yeah)

Well I'm pretty damn good myself
But I must confess
when it comes to makin' love
Baby, your the best in the west

[Chorus:]
Best in the west, that's your name
When you gonna love me again
Let's do it again

[Chorus]

Better than the best, everyone say
How'd he learn to love that way
Let's do it again

[Chorus]

Better than the best and everyone say
How'd he learn to love that way
Best in the west, that's your name
Makin' love's your claim to fame
Let's do it again
Better than the best and everyone say
When you gonna love me again
Let's do it again
Better than the best and everyone say
How'd he learn to love that way
Let's do in again

Chaka Khan Best In The West Comments
  1. J.... W....

chaka's interpretations of what and how she chooses to deliver a song is totally unmatched!, doesn't matter what she can and cannot vocally anymore, her body of work speaks for itself, and is and will be unmatched to the end of time!

  2. a.... ....

Oh Man! This takes me back to the 80s and memories of my favorite boyfriend, such a sexy song, sexy album. This is easily one of my top 3 Chaka albums, and I love them all. I feel like this one is a sleeper.

  3. c.... m....

Honky Tonk piano and the gun shot

  4. J.... W....

I'm so sorry that i think Chaka vocal arrangements trump aretha's, pattie's, or any other singer on this earth!, yea she's had problems with drugs, but far as I'm concerned it only made her more of a unique personality, and added to her aura, think Janis Joplin, there will never be another of either!

  5. C.... F....

This should have got some serious airplay. Very good track !!!

  6. L.... l....

    CHAKA...
U the ...BEST IN WEST !

  7. A.... M....

One of my favorite Chaka songs!

  8. P.... D....

    Amazing

  9. t.... a....

I cannot stand it, if I had someone to enjoy this as much as I do+

  10. 6.... ....

She's he best , better than the best , in the West and even in the East.

  11. D.... S....

Reigning R and B queen singer ( yes 2017!) Notice how Chaka enunciates all of her words ( on all of her songs actually). AMAZING VOCAL TALENT!

  12. j.... g....

Cool ass song for country black people.

  13. j.... q....

Had the cassette back in the day and clear forgot about this track. Maybe it's just me but every time a Chaka tune fades away you just find yourself craving more .......

    j.... q....

This was always my favorite song on this album.

  14. j.... ....

The whole album I had it in (Cassette) form it must of wore it out because I replaced it 3 times that's how great this is

  15. W.... R....

    forever the diva

  16. Z.... ....

I hear Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards all over this track...

    Z.... ....

The Nile and Bernard influence was definitely there. According to the album liner notes guitar was LA studio great, Paul Jackson, Jr. The entire part on this track is one of the funkiest ever and one of my favorite guitar ever!! Not easy to play on guitar, also. Props to Mr. Paul Jackson, Jr. for laying down this funky track...no other guitar parts needed for this track!!

    Z.... ....

However, Bernard & Nile were nowhere near this. It really woulda been interesting to hear what would've happened if Chaka got to work with them. Nile without Bernard just isn't the same 😔 Chaka and Arif were a perfect artist/producer match!! Warner Bros. messed up big time splitting them up.

  17. K.... ....

"Well, I damn near ruined myself. But, I must confess, when it comes to making love, baby you're the best in the west". So, when you gonna' ride me again? Now, if that ain't classic Chaka Khan then I don't know what is! Lol.

    K.... ....

    Who is Chaka talking about?

  18. H.... ....

    Luv me some Chaka

  19. T.... K....

This is what separates Chaka from the rest of the pack; Her love of music, insane work ethic and willingness to go beyond what is expected!!!
Aretha was given a crack at "The Walls" method of duplicating the background tracks in your own voice and she only did it once on The Master of Eyes (The Deepness of Your Eyes)& quit because it was too much like work and easier for her to hire background singers...
Chaka got it a year later and ran with it turning it an art form and one of her trademarks...
Aretha rested on her laurels of being dubbed "The Queen" blithely blind to the fact Chaka dethroned her in 1974 when Rufusized came out!!!

    T.... K....

Vocal art! I get chills. Bravo Ck and Arif Mardin

  20. h.... ....

That keybass player is a damn FOOL!!! YALL hear that man grooving?! Whoooo!!

    h.... ....

Ridiculous bass lines on this cd.

    h.... ....

Robbie Buchanan on the Moog Bass. Super bad!!

  21. O.... T....

    classic 80's Chaka!

  22. t.... ....

    Love the guitar line!

    t.... ....

tmusic99 that's Paul M Jackson Jr on guitar

    t.... ....

One of the funkiest lines that Paul Jackson, Jr, ever put down in my opinion!!

  23. L.... R....

    SLAMMING!Chaka you are the best!

  24. M.... I....

    THIS IS THE JAM SHIT!!!!!

  25. e.... o....

There's definately something Chaka Khan's voice does to me that i still find hard to decipher.
This lady surely knows how to sing.

    e.... o....

    Et tou???

  26. l.... ....

I have this album (one of my favorites), but I fear that it has died in my storage unit. :( Thanks for posting.

    l.... ....

Well do what i did. My original vinyl copy is ruined so i purchased the mp3 version for $5.99 at amazon.com !

  27. A.... H....

North, South, East and West....... Queen Chaka is still the BEST!!!

  28. E.... M....

I call those songs the Generic Chaka! Give me Heaven Bound or Quandary any day!

  29. y.... ....

Not ME ! I back that shit up,in addition to my on line library i put my Mp3 albums on usb drives and i make playable cd's out of them.

  30. o.... ....

When it comes to my music I want the best sound quality possible and that remains CD. In addition to the artwork, lyrics, liner notes etc. If you're hard drive crashes then you would lose everything.

  31. y.... ....

You can buy the mp3 version of this album at Amazon.com,i think it's $6.99

  32. P.... ....

i picked it up as part of a re-released 5cd chaka collection from the uk, off ebay. even if you have a couple of the cd's already it's a better deal than trying to find an original copy. dumb me knows that because i found a u.s. copy and lost it before i knew about the uk set..

    P.... ....

I got the same deal, excellent value for money to have 5 Chaka albums in one convenient slim package. This didn't include linear notes however, did yours?

  33. E.... ....

its currently unreleased in the US, and was just recently rereleased everywhere else in the world. It's Chaka's rarest album, so unless you hit up eBay or something, your only other way of getting ahold of it is by asking someone on YT for it.

  34. J.... J....

WHY CAN'T FIND THIS SONG ON iTunes?! I just discovered it and I am hooked. I need this on my iPod asap!

  35. R.... C....

I love this song and I totally agree with your comment

  36. T.... ....

love it so funky and raw like we expect from chake

  37. 1.... ....

Now that she is small again, I would love to see her in concert come out dressed in her animal skin top and pants with the wild hair and feathers in it. People would go crazy! She knows her voice is the ish!

  38. 1.... ....

Nobody sounds like Chaka! Her voice is ridiculous. I saw her in concert & it's unreal how she hits those notes, esp. for her to be so small.

  39. b.... ....

this was the shyt in my college dorm room...rocked to this.....chaka is the best singer bar none.

  40. C.... M....

Thank u! I was wondering when somebody was going 2 say something!

  41. S.... A....

This is one of Chaka's greatest albums (of course, with the exception of Destiny, they're ALL great.) Slow Dancin' and Best In The West should have been singles for sure!

  42. M.... I....

This is the JAM. I can't believe it's available as part of Chaka's U.S. catalog. LOVE THIS SONG and this album.

  43. R.... C....

@JumpStreet1983 I feel you man this whole album is classic and this song is my favorite...

  44. T.... ....

This is 1 of my favorite songs - period. So FUNKY & funny. Nice to know Chaka's got a good sense of humor along with those vocals skills. Written by the 2 guys who wrote Patti Austin's 'Every Home Should Have One', Musker & Bugatti I think.

  45. M.... ....

OMG! I love me some Chaka Khan, from the 70's with Rufus and especially back in the 80's. She was on fire and she should of been hotter than she was.

  46. B.... P....

i like everything she ever did

  47. M.... ....

    god l......love this song

  48. w.... ....

allways liked this song..its her incerdiable voice....

  49. J.... B....

hi just love this old funk . songs great fr johnnyb.

  50. j.... ....

    this is a perfect song......it almost makes me cry!!.....I'm such a bitch...lol....

  51. r.... ....

Buena rola, aunque no es de mis favoritas de Chaka Khan.

  52. B.... ....

Hahaa... and Tight Fit became an instant classic.

  53. B.... ....

That's the "mainstream" that likes and expects those songs. It's like R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" is what the mainstream knows. We R&Bers know of tons of other stuff by our favorites that the mainstream would be scratching their heads over.

  54. U.... ....

Amen Bluesky. I said the samething many years ago. Though, back when Chaka was winning Grammies, they had meaning. i remember other singers who shared the best female singer nominatiion being nervous - because no one could touch Chaka's profound musicality and vocal power. Those were the days!

  55. B.... ....

Patti has 2 Grammys? Since when? And it's all about how you shake your tailfeather. If you are a size 4 with big breasts then you'll get a Grammy hence part of my disdain for them.

  56. M.... M....

Best in the west, thats your name.....

  57. M.... M....

    That,s a understatement!!!!
    Chaka = music!

  58. B.... ....

Who cares about a Grammy? If Britney Spears' non-singing self can win it's really not based on talent.

  59. t.... ....

You right!! But she keeps winning Grammys so she a'int trippin!

  60. B.... ....

Please Pardon Me: another great song by Chaka Khan & Rufus.

  61. J.... ....

"explore" that is -- please pardon me :-)

  62. J.... ....

Chaka's willingness to branch out and explores different styles of music is one of the reasons I love her. I dig the "Soul Train" meets "Grand Ole Opry" fusion on this song from her self-titled 1982 album.

  63. b.... ....

i'm fortunate to have a cd version of this album. this is one of those rare albums that i love every song from beginning to end.

  64. b.... ....

i was able to purchase a cd vrsion of this album 2 years ago off of ebay. $15 w/shipping. i consider myself very fortunate. as you know, finding an album version is rare and finding a cd for the price i did is even rarer. it came from japan(all english lettering) I LOVE THIS ALBUM FROM BEGINNING TO END!

  65. b.... ....

i was able to purchase a cd vrsion of this album 2 years ago off of ebay. $12 w/shipping. I LOVE THIS ALBUM FROM BEGINNING TO END!

  66. b.... ....

2 years ago i was fortunate enough to purchase a cd version ($12 w/shipping) off of ebay. as you may know, not many cd's were produced of this album. this is one of those rare albums in which i like every single song on it. it's always in my care. "best in the west" is right up there with "papillion"

  67. B.... ....

I'll tell you all something. If they do release it buy as many copies as you can because it'll only be for a month.

  68. M.... M....

    Better than the rest.......

  69. B.... ....

Hear, hear! I wish I knew, Blee.

  70. B.... ....

And with all that this album still hasn't been released in the United States on CD.

  71. M.... M....

    De ALLER-BESTE van Chaka,Chaka,Chaka Khan.
Moeilijk te vinden en in Nederland geen hit geweest. SUPER!!!!

  72. A.... ....

This is one of my favorite songs by Chaka Khan. I would love to buy this CD.

  73. B.... ....

My goodness are you trying to say cheesiness?

  74. B.... D....

WOW...this is BETTER than the best...I LOVE IT, and I LOVE Chaka !!!Bill Deal Jr.

  75. o.... ....

This NEEDS to be reissued IN THE US! as soon as possible! There is no need for it to be rare. This is CHAKA KHAN we're talkin' about!

  76. 4.... ....

A very under-rated Chaka cd. I know this song's a bit cheesy, but her voice sounds great. Discovering this cd in her backlog was amazing for me. Great memories.(Madonna ventured into the West with her cd Music, but Chaka did it 2 decades before)
