Celtic Woman - Mná Na hÉireann (Women Of Ireland) Lyrics

Tá bean in Éirinn a bhronnfadh séad dom 's mo sháith le n-ól
'S tá bean in Éirinn ba bhinne léithe mo ráfla ceoil ná seinm téad
Tá bean in Éirinn, 's níorbh fhearr léi beo
Mise ag léimneach nó leagtha I gcré is mo thárr faoi fhód

Tá bean in Éirinn a bheadh ag éad liom mur' bhfaighfinn ach póg
Ó bhean ar aonach, nach ait an scéala, is mo dháimh féin leo
Tá bean ab fhearr liom nó cath is céad dhíobh nach bhfagham go deo
Is tá cailín spéiriúil ag fear gan bhéarla, dubhghránna cróin

Tá bean in Éirinn a bhronnfadh séad dom is mo sháith le n-ól
Tá bean in Éirinn s'ba bhinne léithe mo ráfla ceoil ná seinm téad
Tá bean in Éirinn is níorbh fhearr léi beo
Mise ag léimneach nó leagtha I gcré 's mo thárr faoi fhód

Is tá bean 'na léine is fearr a méin no na tainte bó

Le bean a bhuairfeadh Baile an Mhaoir agus clar Thir Eoghann,

Is ní fhaicim leigheas ar mo ghalar féin ach scaird a dh'ól

    English lyrics:

There's a woman in Ireland who'd give me shelter and my fill of ale

There's a woman in Ireland who'd prefer my singing to strings being played

There's a woman in Ireland who'd prefer me leaping than laid in the clay and my belly under the sod

There's a woman in Ireland who'd envy me if I got naught but a kiss

from a woman at a fair , isn't it strange, and the love I have for them

    There's a woman I'd prefer more to a battalion,

and a hundred of them I will never get

And an ugly, swarthy man with no English has a beautiful girl

There's a woman who would say that if I walked with her I'd get the gold

A woman in night dress whose mein is better than herds of cows

With a woman who would deafen Ballymoyer and the plain of Tyrone

And I see no cure for my disease but to give up the drink

There's a woman in Ireland who'd give me a gem and my fill to drink,

  62. C.... W....

I may be a fan of rock and metal however I appreciate female artists who have a lovely singing voice. Celtic Woman you ladies have angelic voices. Keep up the good work.

  63. E.... J....

I can't get enough of you girls, especially Megan, I love that voice you have. I don't know if you would call it a vibrato or not, but what ever it is I love it. And that alto from Éabha is stunning I have not heard a better. And I really love how soft Máiréads' voice is. And can’t forget about you Tara, you have an amazing talent on the violin. I just love you girls and wish you the best luck!

Sláinté chara for this beautiful song go raibh mhaith agat,

  67. A.... D....

Wait I'm a little bit confused 😕 what happened to the other members?

    A.... D....

Amara DeLuna the lineup has changed a number of times over the years. My guess is that the touring life is tiring and demanding and the ladies eventually need to step away, particularly if they want to spend more time with family...

    A.... D....

Some leave ro pursue solo projects, others because of pregancy, or simply because they feel like it's time to move on. Luckily, CW is a very harmonious group, and leaving - and coming back - is a very open thing, rather than a big legal issue, which is why all the performers are always happy to be in the group, and our adapted Narnian saying "Once a Celtic Woman, always a Celtic Woman" is actually true.

    A.... D....

I doesn't bother me who comes and who goes. As far as I am concerned, whoever comes in is just as good as those who had left. The singing is just as beautiful, and so are the women. Love from Singapore

  68. D.... S....

With love from Norway! Please consider us too. We have been waiting for far too long and can’t even get your new album on iTune. I had to by your CD just to listen to your new music :-(. - mission to get a hold of a CD player in this age

  72. P.... ....

i do not understand a sinlge word of Irish/gaelic but god damn i love celtic woman!

    P.... ....

I do. "Tá bean..." means "There is..." "...a woman in Ireland who...". That is the start of each line.

    P.... ....

There's a woman in Ireland who'd give me a gem and my fill to drink,

Lol! I feel the same way... :)

  91. C.... A....

I'm sorry if this question seems ignorant, but why do the Irish, Scots, and Manx speakers, not use the Gaelic alphabet? I can tell the Latin alphabet does not fit the Gaelic language words and names, I'm guessing it is why Gaelic name spellings (and probably words) look so strange in Latin Alphabet. Latin alphabet as used by English speaking countries, is completely stripped to bare bones compared to all other Latin alphabet users. I'm sure Gaelic alphabet has its own unique mechanics, that would make the written form of the Gaelic languages make full sense.

    C.... A....

When the the Latin based Gaelic written alphabet was introduced towards the end of the 5th century, it existed for some time alongside the archaic Ogham alphabet, the earliest written Gaelic alphabet.

The Ogham alphabet was a basic system of writing consisting mainly of a series of lines to denote a letter. Ogham writing was often carved into sticks or trees but the surviving examples are in stone- see photo. The Latin alphabet gradually replaced the Ogham alphabet in the 6th and 7th century.
    Source: https://www.gaelicmatters.com/gaelic-written-alphabet.html

I guess Roman conquest truly left its mark.

    C.... A....

Heh, I guess I never really took a close enough look at the Gaelic alphabets. Few of the alphabets do look different enough, but since Irish as a whole is much different than English, I assumed the alphabet was too. I'm guessing modern English has some Irish and Scottish in it, but I imagine very little compared to Spanish, French, German, etc. I haven't studied languages extensively, but I know modern English has quite a few words that are directly German but spelled differently, and plenty of Spanish/Latin derived words, and also some Scandinavian words, and most likely some Greek derived words as well. Not sure if modern English has Slavic words like Russian and the like, I'm thinking not much at all. And of course English has added a few loan words from regions like India and Middle East, like guru, chakra, bazaar, and hijab.

    Miss the originals 😢😢😢

    C.... J....

@gerry Ward Thanks you so much

  95. c.... ....

I agree it's beautiful but where are the original Celtic Women and the original violinist, disappointed 😔 it's not them

    c.... ....

I agree so loved the original celtic woman just not the same but have some wonderful dvds of them

    c.... ....

They are doing wonderful too, it's something new

    c.... ....

The touring life is very tiring on them traveling so much it wears them out, and like most women they want to go start a family and have children.

    c.... ....

Through this is the first dvd to show this particular line up as it is now, the original line up hasn't been together since 2007, so the member change isn't exactly recent. However, Méav of the original line up is the current group's vocal director and has co-written two songs on the current album. The original violinist, Máiréad Nesbitt, left the group in 2016, and was the last "original" member. However, since 2004, there have been fifteen Celtic Woman members, so, just as I said, that's not a new thing.

    c.... ....

@ChiaraMarilera comment aside, apart from her guest performances with the band over the years, Meav can be seen as part of the audience during the show as well and Ronan and Glenn, I think Susan was there too
