Celtic Woman - Harry's Game Lyrics
Imtheochaidh soir is siar
A dtainig ariamh
An ghealach is an ghrian
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Imtheochaidh an ghealach's an ghrian
An Daoine og is a chail 'na dhiadh
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
An duine og is a chail ne dhiadh
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
[Translation:]
I will go east and go west
(To the places) from whence came
The moon and the sun
The moon and the sun will go
And the young man
With his reputation behind him
I will go wherever he came from -
The young man with his reputation behind him

Celtic Woman Harry's Game Comments
A song which needs to be so much longer. i would love to hear a fifteen minute version just to see where my soul would take me.
Variety, Versatile, Volume Up.
The beauty of listing to a variety of music and being versatile is appreciation of both Harry's Game and Saltwater. Both I enjoy with the volume up.
Orla is, without a doubt, one of the best vocalists ever to sing as Celtic Woman!
Simply beautiful! Haunting yet perfection.
That whole first album they did was a true masterpiece...and it was just the beginning.
Orla gets the most beautiful songs! Her voice is unreal.
RESPECT RESPECT RESPECT FOARTE FRUMOS RESPECT 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🥇🥇🥇🥇
Orla's voice resonance in that room is just magnificent!
Her voice is beautiful, and so is the Irish language. Unfortunately she does not speak it, and the pronunciation here is way off. Check out Clannad's version for the correct pronunciation (though the music is as good here :) )
One version of english:
I will go east and go west
From whence came
The moon and the sun
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the day fol the day
The moon and the sun will go
And the young man with his reputation behind him
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the day fol the day
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the day fol the day
I will go wherever he came from
The young man with his reputation behind him
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the day fol the day
---
I always thought that "Fol lol the doh fol the day" meant something like follow the day.. :/

There is nothing comparable to a woman voice singing in Gaelic (think about Enya, Maire Brennan, Loreena McKennitt, just to quote some of the greatest ones)!
I found this beautiful music in 2005. For two combat deployments, this was one album that helped drift off to sleep. It was special each time to leave the barren desert and land in Shannon, Ireland. Love this album and this lineup.
Great Voice and Celtic Charme !
I think this is the most hauntingly beautiful song I've ever heard
Another song that calms me down :)
An amazingly beautiful song. Maybe my favorite performance, partially because the background vocals are exquisite.
How are there thumbs down to this song???????
Trolls mostly...
Some folks are just born with thumbs down. No pleasing them WHATSOEVER.
I first heard this song done by Clannad...but I LOVE Orla's version. Her voice is lovely :)
O'rlas voice is the difference. I guarantee that if I sang this, although I could hit all the notes, no one would enjoy the experience.
The story involves a mole from the brits that infiltrates the Irish resistance for the purpose of assassinating one of the leaders
Sad song ,but don't we do sad majestically!
I like this version better than Clannad
Me too, they are so good... Carl
whats it all about :-S
i only ever saw the very last scene of this! that's all i needed to see...
Boooooom ;-)
The most beautiful song I've ever heard of which I don't understand one word.
+Joe I You don't need to.
+Joe I It's haunting isn;t it? Interestingly - the chorus - there's not direct translation into English. It's about The Troubles basically.
"Harry's Game" ..... been there ... done that ... wear the scars .... wonderful tune ... horrible days
Absolutely beautiful..!!
the Gaelic language is beautiful. Her voice is haunting.
Her voice is beautiful, and so is the Irish language. Unfortunately she does not speak it, and the pronunciation here is way off. Check out Clannad's version for the correct pronunciation (though the music is as good here :) )
Saw this in the scene of Patriot Games, so glad I found it
Same here, I just started watching for a second time this week
Orla's interpretation is lovely. Though I love all the Celtic Wom[e]n from this era (aside from Chloe; her voice is just breathy and annoying to me), she was the only one capable of pulling off such a haunting tune.
She (Orla) isn't nearly as "breathy" a performer as the one Clannad used on the original recording (Moya Brennan?).
i really like this version of Harrys Game beautifully sung.
Órla is the one that can afford to touch the Divine Moya Brennan!! Amazing! 😍😍😍❤️
I may not have understood most of what she said.. but her voice was absolutely fantastic!!! <3
her voice..... incredibly .....
beautiful but just cant match the original
So angry fatty.
Aside from the vulgar commentary from djs ..... I agree this is a nice version ..... but you should check out Diedre Shannon's version (with Celtic Thunder) ..... sorry to say, but she has a better voice (for this song) than Orla. Please djs, keep the name calling to a minimum ..... only ignorant people have to resort to vulgarities.
no way,
@BRIAN DAVIES He wasn't the one that started mate, read all before you make such a comment.
Aaaaand here's the appropriate spot for a whiny, childlike "Nuh UUUUUH, HE STARTED IT!!" You silly geese. Shut up and enjoy the music.
I wish I could understand what she's singing...

i love her amazing
she just reaches into my Celtic soul like no other.
Off tempo, far too fast
perfect in every way.
There aren't enough superlatives on the planet to describe how great the the former and current members of Celtic Woman are!
Unfortunately, she's no longer with Celtic Woman. You can find clips from her "Celtic Christmas" and "My Land" DVDs on YouTube. If anything, she sounds better since she left CW, and she still just radiates class.
This is literally PERFECTION.
thank you orla, when i listen your music i'm really crying !! your voice sound like angel !!
I'll see you in Vienna va usa
For me, the most amazing member!
I listen to this when I photograph eagles... They love it too!
one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever
beautiful !!!!!
Most beautiful song I've ever heard.
Thank you! For some reason when I watched the first Celtic Woman event, I thought they said Orlagh was her sister...I am getting old!!
You are thinking of Enya's sister Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh who sang this with Clannad. Enya's real name is Eithne Ní Mhaonaigh
Enya's sister is Moya Brennan a.k.a. Maíre Ní Bhraonain. Enya's name is Eithne Ní Bhraonain
Enya is not Orlagh's sister, but it would be nice to hear them perform together.
I'm actually shivering from listening to this, it's so beautiful and so haunting.
I would love to hear her perform with her sister Enya.
This is Orla, not Moya Brennan.
Enya's sister, Moya Brennan is the original singer of this song
I'm looking for sheet music so I can sing this song for my voice class.
Does anyone know where I can find some? (Purchase doesn't matter)
This is the Best version of this Ballad i have ever heard , perfect.
i love <3
My theory is that a few Dislike votes are accidents (cat pounced on the mouse, etc.) and the rest are unfortunates who suffer from callegynophobia.
This song takes me to other realms.
i like ! j'adore <3 merci <3
I have goosebumps running up and down my arms! (Shutter)
So...speechless right now
This womans rendition of this song sends chills up my spine. Amazing!
I remember watching my DVD of "Patriot Games" one night not long after I had discovered Celtic Woman, and sure enough, "Harry's Game" came on in the soundtrack as I watched the movie. All I could think of was, "Hey, I have heard this before!". Clannad may have done it for the move, but the "credit" to bringing it to my attention first belongs entirely to Celtic Woman.
I absolutely LOVE her voice... But for some reason, I like Clannad's version better.
OMG!
WHAT IS THAT?!
Just divine!!!!! i cant stop watching!
Anyone else get teary eyed when she sings? Or am I just a sap lol
for the most part I don't like listening to women sing . . . but these are different! Their voices are extraordinary, as is the rest of the music! <3
@MickeyFaster - :)
@jhr459 I always like to joke that as an Irishman I am god's second favorite (With the Bible saying that the Jewish people are the apple of god's eye), but you have first and second sewn up,..
@smbrox - I think it is partly the melancholy within these Gaelic songs - much like the melancholy found in Hebrew songs-can you imagine the level of melancholy to be found in Irish Jews - oh wait, that's me...
@saddleclubgurl11 I, too, like CT, but I can't choose a favorite....
@smbrox I don't know but I wish my voice was a good. At my best, I didn't even sound half that good.
Whoa! Scary! Goosebumps! Even better than the original!
@smbrox And Orla is like at the top of them all.
How could anyone not love this!! Absolutely beautiful..
Don't know why but this is my favorite song of their's.
wowwwww! - *goosebumps* Wonderful!!!
@AniinhaNoemi , obviously cant tell the difference from like and unlike!? could be deaf maybe? or have stevie wonderitis!??? could be dead 20 years, no matter what excuse i make up here, there isnt one!! magic
@MrJmo001 Absolutely!
This is beautiful...
@UndercoverCracker My friend, i agree, i cant help doing the same, maybe trying to find fault somewhere? but i cant, absolutley amazing when a voice overpowers an orchestra!!
wow, mystical celtic magic,an instrument embodied in a voice, a gift, pure as water, enigmatic in it's source, draws you into a lull, a grace, a place where strife and troubles disappear, this is a glimpse of the divine......
Orla has the most mystic voice out of all the Celtic Woman. I was SO sad when she came to my town and I couldn't see her.... =( She's my favorite former member!
I'm in love.
if anyone can make this song sound more haunting than it originally was, Orla can. :D
@Bruce99100
"Harry's Game" is a hit song by the Irish group Clannad. It was released in 1982 and served as the main track from their album Magical Ring. However, the song was initially written for a Yorkshire Television production called Harry's Game, which depicted The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Can anyone explain why this is called Harry's Game...the haunting music sees so far removed from the vegas type title. Could be a gangster film for example.
@nickifrenchblue She's more melodious, but the overall feel and ambience of Clannad is better. They really set the bar high. But whatever...it's your opinion, I guess. For me, Clannad is golden.
@ThePaganSun true but i still think orlla fallon does alot better with this song
@nickifrenchblue Yet, CLANNAD was the original and made this a hit. So the kudos go to THEM don't you think?
@chippewaman1975 Hiding behind a screen name ? you deluded idiot , please read what i wrote you dumbass LOL ( laugh out loud ) . I know my Heritage VERY well and yes i know what Blood courses through my veins , The Royal Family and Germans? , you say that in the manner you think i am related to them ?, i would rather Die than be associated with those PARASITES . Oh ! does that shock you ? " Not all Brits want or like the Royal Family ". Did i say PROUD ? even once?, you get a life.
