surprised noone commented that the name and subtitle are wrong in this song. It is Green Grow the Rashes by Scottish poet Burns. Not Green Grow the Rushes (an evolution of the other which became an English folk song) .. wither way very much not Irish

Okay this is freaking me out a lot.. I woke up this morning, for some reason singing this song.. Not instantly but a few minutes after waking up, I just had this in my head and was humming it at first, I didn't know why i had that melody in my head so i decided to add some words to fit it.. I was really actually saying " Greeeen grow the Russian " and doing it with an Irish accent. Just sounded nice like that.. Then I start questioning why im singing it in the first place because i have literally never heard this fucking song before in my life time. Then i go on YouTube to look it up and sure enough there is a song named " green grows the rushen " Which by all means, is basically what i was saying.. Just not " Russian " and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck... These mother fuckers sang it exactly how i was singing it.. I'VE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE IN MY LIFE...EVER.. So wtf?! I'm just going to ignore this and act like there isn't something trying to tell me anything. Im not ready for this twilight shit right now.

This is Anglo-Scottish... RB wrote Green Grow The Rashes and it's sung in English. Check out Edie Reader who gives a much better interpretation in Scots/English without all the mawkish faux celtic adornments. After all this was a poem written by a lowland Scot. There are like, millions of people on this planet: They could have gotten anyone to sing the album version, but they just had to choose someone who sounded horrible. Its not often when I say that a song stinks, but I really thought they could have done a better job recording the album version of this song. The singer they chose ruined the whole song and made it sound like a piece of trash.

This version is MUCH BETTER than the album version. I did not like the voice of the singer who sang the album version, she sounded like an old woman. I don't mean to be insulting, but I think they could have gotten someone more talented to sing the album version.

Actually it was Scotland national bard that wrote this song for the lassies. And the term "Gringo" comes from the Mexicans hearing the Scottish-Americans singing as they faced certain death at the Alamo.

Actually, no!  When France tried to take over Mexico a lot of Scots were hired on as mercenaries.  There are still stories about the Scottish singing so loudly that the Mexicans could hear the French coming for miles, and thus, were always prepared for them.  The term gringo is indeed a bastardization of the words Green Grow from this song, though.  The Scottish who fought in Mexico for money had nothing whatsoever to do with America.  They went to France from Scotland as did Irishmen from Ireland to fight for money for the French.  Irishmen and Scotsmen fought in most every war as mercenaries at that time.

The current CW US tour- which just ended- was called Destiny. Meav Ni Mhaolchatha ( a former and recurring member) is now the new creative consultant and vocal coach for Celtic Woman. Meav has used her new found formal influence, to inject CW with a more traditional Celtic flavor and feel. Reference Celtic Woman Destiny on You Tube here and tell the difference right away. I'm sure all who long for more "Celticness" in the music will appreciate Meav's dedication to this effort. ...and enjoy. :)

In case anyone wants this song, it's exclusive to the German edition of Believe.  Luckily, you can buy the album for cheap on Amazon.de (which isn't too hard to navigate since the layout is set up the same).  The other exclusive songs are also worth it including a Susan McFadden cameo on I'm Counting on You (with Chris de Burgh) and a beautiful cover of Tears in Heaven by Chloe.

@shuboy05 Hmm, I just noticed it's also on the Barnes and Noble edition which might be harder to find.

It's on my regular ole bought from Amazon through no special cunning DVD also.  And this is my third time I got the DVD b/c I listen/watch CW DVDs  about nine or ten times a week.  It is also on the Japanese version which is named Awakening instead of Believe for some reason.

The Scoti came around the time the romans were here and are but a small part of the peoples who came to the country now known as Scotland . The vast majority were Picts and Britons both whom predate the Scoti.
Robert Burns was not a Gael he was a lowlander from Ayrshire farming stock on his mothers side and his father was from Kincardineshire just South of Aberdeen.In short no part of this song is Irish nor even Scots Gaelic.

Yea, but this was the 2nd time I had the honor of singing with them (well, again, me and 1800 other people). Lisa Kelly was doing "Green The Whole Year Round" at the Celtic Woman Christmas Symphony tour last year, and she had to instruct all of us in the audience how to sing the chorus. Singing "Green Grow The Rushes" was a little easier last April when I saw them in concert, as I wasn't high in the upper "ring" balcony afraid I might fall out over the railing (I hate Boettcher Hall!).
