Celtic Woman - Black Is The Colour Lyrics

Black is the colour of my true love's hair.
Her lips are like some roses fair.
She has the sweetest face and the gentlest touch.
I love the ground whereon she stands.

I love my love and well she knows.
I love the ground whereon she goes.
And how I wish the day would come
When she and I can be as one.

Black is the colour of my true love's hair.
Her lips are like some roses fair.
She has the sweetest face and the gentlest touch.
I love the ground whereon she stands.
I love the ground whereon she stands.

Black is the colour of my true love's hair.
Her lips are like a rose so fair.
She has the sweetest face and the gentlest hands.
I love the ground whereon she stands.
I love the ground whereon she stands.
I love the ground whereon she stands.

Celtic Woman Black Is The Colour Comments
  1. B.... Q....

    Oh my God.,beatifull

  2. H.... G....

Basically I'd like to dedicate this entire song to Lisa Lambe, just replace the word Black with Red...

  3. M.... D....

I love how gay this song is. She sings it with way too much sincerity for it to be anything else! It's about time Celtic Woman sang some non-heterosexual songs (other than True Colors of course!)

  4. G.... I....

Did it hurt when God left you without your wings and sent you to live on Earth?

  5. M.... C....

So shes a lesbian? Gross, why is everyone so fucking gay these days.

  6. T.... T....

What type of flute is that?

  7. T.... T....

Red is the color of my true loves hair🙂

  8. J.... G....

    Bucket list

  9. J.... G....

    Red Moreen

  10. J.... G....

    Holly the Buddhist Nun

  11. E.... G....

I dislike the Disney princess'ish tone Celtic Woman put on every song, but this one came out pretty good, heard better versions, though

  12. M.... H....

I'm a natural redhead, love her too.  We rule the world.

  13. M.... W....

Beautiful song Lisa L. Is so beautiful.

  14. n.... b....

Ruined it completely by leaving out the whole second verse

  15. J.... R....

    Simply beautiful

  16. L.... D....

She simply nailed the song! Best interpretation of "Black is the Color" so far!

  17. M.... H....

I'm a irish redhead man, dating a black haired irish lass. andrea corr did this song. All fine to me who sings this. so proud.

  18. A.... Z....

I am dreaming of being the pianist of Celtic Woman with change to see the graceful woman in close😍😍😍

  19. M.... H....

I'm a irish redhead, have a black irish haired girlfriend, love her so much.

    M.... H....

Lisa lamb you are my love too. One redhead to another. No one understands our us as we do, We are a rare breed.

  20. V.... C....

She's the best! Lisa i love you :)

  21. g.... ....

You know what's shocking, I couldn't play this video. It said it is restricted. This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. I had to turn restricted mode off of my browser to hear it. Now my kids can see stuff that really should be restricted. I guess I can turn restricted mode on and off but this is crazy. Why would some idiot restrict this video.

  22. D.... B....

Women singing men's songs is common in Celtic music. According to the left, it's also progressive :)

  23. .... ....

Black, black, black is the color of my true love's hair
      黑色,是我心上人头发的颜色
His lips are like some rosey fair 他的嘴唇如同玫瑰般润泽
The finest face and the neatest hands 优雅的双手和美好的面庞
I love the ground where on he stands 我钟情于他停留过的每个地方
I love my love and well he knows 我如此爱他而他从来知道
I love the grass where on he goes 我钟情于他经过的每一株青草
If he on earth no more I did see 如果不能再见到他的身影
My life will quickly fade away. 我的生命便会转瞬凋落
I'll climb up the mountain for to mourn and weep 我将在无人的山峰上哀伤哭泣
For satisfied, I'll never sleep 为此,彻夜不再休息
I'll write to you in a few little lines 我为你写下那些隐秘的情话
I'll suffer death ten thousand times 千百次在死亡的痛苦中挣扎
The winter is past and the leaves are green 严冬就这样过去而绿叶复苏
The time is gone that we have seen 时光的流逝我们历历在目
But still I long for the day to come 而我依然等着那一天的到来
When you and I will be as one. 那一天,我们融为一体
Black, black, black is the color of my true love's hair
      黑色,黑色,黑色。黑色是我心上人头发的颜色。

  24. b.... o....

Beautiful song and woman in a marvelous dress. Aesthetics matter.

  25. b.... s....

    Nina samone

  26. b.... s....

    This is a black song

  27. A.... H....

I know this song from The Corrs. It was on their album Home (2005). I must admit, I still prefer their version.

  28. J.... G....

    Beautiful!

  29. R.... D....

It's interesting how some Celtic Woman members change the pronouns of love songs and others don't. Hayley Westenra used male pronouns in "Scarborough Fair," Lisa Kelly sang "fellas" instead of "ladies" in "Caledonia," and "Beyond the Sea" was performed with male pronouns instead of female pronouns. Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Susan Fadden have done renditions of "She Moved Through the Fair" (and, coincidentally, so have Chloë Agnew and Lisa Lambe as a duet) without pronoun changes. And then there's Lisa Lambe here with the original female pronouns in "Black is the Color."

  30. M.... H....

Andrea corr of "The Corrs" sings this song too.

  31. L.... s....

    Beautiful, the ending omg

  32. m.... s....

ok tthat may not be the type of song a woman would sing but lisa lambe does it very well

  33. M.... H....

Awsome, Being Irish and Scottish and family in both lands. So powerful.

  34. j.... d....

Scottish, not Irish, written by Hamish Imlack

  35. z.... 1....

Nina Simone's performance gave me chills

  36. M.... H....

She is the most beautiful redhead I have ever seen period.

  37. S.... L....

You did an amazing rendition of this classic Scottish tune. I haven't heard anyone else do this amazing tune. You are simply amazing! Put this on amazon so I can buy it.

  38. M.... H....

Andrea corr of the corr's did this song, being black irish haired. But love a redhead doing it was awesome.

  39. S.... M....

    klasse......

  40. a.... c....

In high school we performed this for a Spring chorus concert

  41. S.... P....

I think they have the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Their voices truley sound angelic. I could listen to them forever

  42. r.... 2....

Too theatrical and doesn't seem to be live, good singer but all a big over the top, its a simple ballad and best sang that way

  43. B.... ....

    Thank you great woman!

  44. C.... ....

    Celtic pop music.
This is not traditional. Well sung, very nice... but this is not celtic.
It just utilises some celtic musical components, but it's mostly Beyoncé.

  45. b.... 8....

It's beautiful as it is sung by her it I remember singing this number in chorus and the lyrics we're song to a guy also to my surprise this is Nina Simone's song

  46. S.... o....

    Very lovely performance.

  47. J.... B....

If you want a real treat, check out Rhiannon Giddens. Sometimes I listen to this and her versions back to back because they are so different, but in a good way.

  48. A.... C....

She has such a beautiful voice. She hits each pitch just perfectly.

  49. p.... ....

I came across these ladies by chance yesterday and haven't stopped listening to them since . . . beautiful ladies and beautiful music

  50. B.... ....

This Woman is REALL? Greaattttt Womannnnnnnnnnnnnn. I Love You.

  51. M.... ....

Lisa Lambe has a voice from heaven. Amazing.

  52. P.... T....

she likes the color if her gf 's bush to be black

  53. v.... ....

This never gets old. <3 I love the ground where on she stands.

  54. A.... ....

I love these sung by women. i have seem it tweaked so the woman singing says "he" and I like it that way better as far as pronoun use goes. But the song itself....well I think all celtic and music of this type is WAY better sang by a woman. I just LOVE womens voices.I want to take songs all the time and have them redone by women, that haunting quality...lovely

  55. j.... Z....

thats what we need the world around,,,

  56. j.... Z....

    the voice of a angel,,,

  57. j.... Z....

,,LISA LAMB!!!,,keep trying!,,,i want you to be BIG in the USA,,,ok?,,just keep on,,,,,

  63. M.... R....

I wonder why they didn't change the lyrics, I always imagine her as a lesbian lol

  64. T.... W....

    Wonderful.

  65. K.... j....

    that ending

  66. P.... P....

Planet ANM - Tańcząc w ciemnościach > Search.

  67. C.... ....

My favorite version of this song is of Clann Lir's, but this version is as sweet <3

  68. R.... F....

    she is gorgeous

  69. M.... ....

    This song is so beautiful!

  70. S.... S....

My Father taught me this song when I was very young. Celtic Woman does everything they sing so well! Thank you for the music!

  71. S.... G....

It's either Scottish or American mate, not Irish!

    S.... G....

Yep scottish in origin. But adopted by irish trad

    S.... G....

Matthew Zunder no Nina simone is the original!!!!

    S.... G....

IrishNoodles African Amrican Nina Simone first sung this song!

    S.... G....

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Is_the_Colour_(Of_My_True_Love's_Hair)

Nina Simone was the 8th to record the track in 1959.

John Jacob Niles was the 1st in 1941.

But it is a folk song of much older origin. x

    S.... G....

Nah Nina is great but she's not the first to do this. Just from the style you can tell it was written in Dorian mode at first, then modified to play in the Aeolian mode that we play in. It's old VERY OLD. Probably originally written in Gaelic even...

  72. O.... ....

This is way too perfect not to be lipsynched.

    O.... ....

Yes it is perfect, but that doesn't mean it's lipsync. It means hard work and a lot of practise :)

  73. A.... S....

    I adore this song

    A.... S....

I have written elsewhere today: "Black Is the Colour" is for modern Celts what "Arirang" is for Koreans. Incredible how many beautiful versions of this song have been recorded.

  74. D.... ....

Beautiful song and beautiful lip sync.

    D.... ....

These shows aren't lip synced fyi :P

    D.... ....

    Pawel kot Amen

    D.... ....

    They don't lip sync!!

  75. N.... ....

Unbelievable, what a wonderful voice ! Thank you Lisa :-) I love this song ...

  76. h.... ....

    Yes! Cheers & applause indeed!!!

  77. J.... L....

Going 'down to the Clyde' section makes the song a coherent story, is the emotional climax and places it as a 'Scottish Classic' unless there is an earlier Gaelic version brought to Glasgow by Irish settlers. I try not to be cynical about its omission. The discord between the four countries of the Irish-British Archipelago mask deeper cultural exchanges and similarities each country seems to want to suppress. There isn't even agreement on what to call the archipelago itself!

    J.... L....

    +Jonathan Lohn Home.

    J.... L....

+Jonathan Lohn It was probably Scottish originally. It's just a guess but it probably just one of those things that came with the Gall óglaigh from Scotland. It'd be strange the Gall óglaigh didn't have some influence on Irish culture. They were extremely popular in Ireland and the reason they left Scotland gives a sensible context for the song.

  78. L.... S....

    So very elegant☺

  79. J.... M....

i listen to this, i do not watch it. I cannot stand the ham acting lol. She should have stood elegantly in placce in front of a microphone instead of this fairy prancing crap. I wonder if she ever watched this and saw how hilariously stupid she looks

    J.... M....

Jaxie MacGregor wow that’s so harsh you are the embodiment of having no soul and no fun

  80. V.... C....

beautiful voice for this song, shame some of the song is missing though...., ruined it by over acting

  81. F.... I....

Kokia sings this way better. This sounds awwwwwffffful.

    F.... I....

@Jayron the fact that u replied is histerical 😂

    F.... I....

I reply due to the fact it sends an annoying ringtone my sister set on my phone that I am to lazy to take off, to play when I get emails.

    F.... I....

+Jayron lol, here, have another notification

    F.... I....

    @Brandi Farabee ....

    F.... I....

You must be fun at parties

  82. w.... ....

What an incredible version of a fantastic song. It's a shame they missed the verse "I go down to the Clyde and I mourn and weep..." I love that part.

  83. K.... M....

This is the song I imagine the Irish Tom Branson singing about his love, Sybil in Downton Abbey.

  84. M.... ....

I do not know who wrote this song .. I have not the time nor interest to investigate these things. All I do know is that Gaelic Storm does a nice version .. perhaps the finest I've heard.

  85. *.... ....

    amazing!!!

  86. T.... K....

This rendition is good but Celtic Thunder does it better in my opinion. :D

  87. h.... ....

I can listen to this all day, every day. I can't believe it's not on iTunes to buy!!!!!!

    h.... ....

+hungrr08 It is listed on the Celtic Woman Believe CD. Hope you have found it.

  88. M.... ....

Thank you for the info .. interesting. !   The main thing I was wondering about in the version that I heard in THIS clip, was the difference between ..  'the sweetest face, and the gentliest touch'  (Celtic Women)  vs. .. 'the sweetest smile, and the gentiliest
hands'. (The version I first heard) . I did some brief google-ing and found that this old-tyme song has was written in various ways.  But I DO prefer the latter.  :-)    Again, thanks for your response.

    M.... ....

    geez louise )(iiiiii

  89. V.... R....

Very beautiful but is she singing live? I'm not sure x

    V.... R....

@vickyrainbow I don't think it's live, but dayum this has to be the only lipsynched performance i've ever enjoyed. The arrangement is gorgeous and her expressions & movement are amazing.

  90. S.... R....

Her voice sounds bit like Cara Dillon's one. Beautiful!

    S.... R....

+Sebastian Rubin That's who I thought was singing this at first because Cara's on the Celtic Woman iHeartradio station too. Love them both.

  91. A.... ....

    MAJESTIC!

  92. A.... C....

This song has a special place in my heart. To my long lost love, rest well. You are sorely missed.

    A.... C....

    I feel whith you.....:/

    A.... C....

    Bless you Alfonzo.

  93. M.... ....

I miss.. she has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands. Why do they downgrade these pretty lyrics ? Perhaps a copyright issue ??  And I'm not opposed to same sex at all, assuming the way it is sung. Fine. In her version here though, it would make more sense to have a man singing this song, or for her to reverse the context of male/female.  Seemed kinda mixed up to me .. just a thought. But celtic women are awesome and entertaining. Love them !

    M.... ....

+Emily W I'm pretty sure Sinead was the first to switch the gender, at one point. Could be wrong tho.

  94. T.... ....

For the people commenting how this is Scottish, you realize Scottish is included in the term Celtic. Celtic is not just Irish.

    T.... ....

This is very true. "Celtic" refers to the people of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man. Most people just think it means Irish though.

    T.... ....

However the description says 'Irish classic', which is inaccurate. None-the-less a beautiful song. Though this rendition, great as it is, for me, lacks the raw emotion of Christy Moore performing it.

    T.... ....

In fact I believe it originated neither in Ireland or Scotland.
I think it comes from the Appalachian region of the United States.
    I could be wrong though.

  95. M.... E....

    ... dadurch entsteht musikalische "Tiefe"

Aber das gepiepse ist grottenolm schlecht!

  97. T.... ....

Just realised they didn't sing the whole song. Anyway, it's scottish.

  98. T.... ....

Oh for gods sake - this isn't irish people, it's scottish. The Clyde is the river that runs through Glasgow. Glasgow is in Scotland. That ought to have been a major clue for you.

  99. m.... ....

i heard this in trance first lol. beautiful original version

  100. E.... ....

    wonderful breath taking voice
