Cassidy, Eva - Oh, Had I A Golden Thread Lyrics

I'm into a lot of different genres and artists so I rarely pick favorites but Eva Cassidy tests that every time I hear this song. There are a lot of phenomenal female voices out there but none that I've ever heard even come close to her level of perfection on every level. She's doing things in this song that are next to impossible and doing it with absolute ease. From a whisper to full belt her voice is silky smooth, not even the slightest sign of strain throughout her entire amazing vocal range. Her pitch is always perfect, but warm and full of passion instead of a sterile technical perfect. Even her normal speaking voice was strikingly melodious. I always hold this song up as the "perfect 10" of female vocals. It's also one of Pete Seger's most moving songs getting right to the Heart of our Humanity :)

At 2:50 ladies and gentlemen, the BEST NOTE EVER performed by a human being, until today.

My favourite Eva Cassidy song, a voice from Heaven ❤

Mine too. Although there are probably a dozen or so that are a close second. All those harmonies are her too. When she hits those high notes, I picture her singing from heaven. I've tried to listen to her while I'm working. I get zero work done...and I'm still happy. :-)

Why can't she get the lyrics right  ....it's weave a magic strand NOT spell.

Had you ever performed live, you would realise that sometimes words get swapped or mixed up in the heat of the moment. I expect Eva realised her mistake afterwards, but since it was a live recording there was nothing she could do.

FYI--there are myriad lyrics to this song, changed by various artists to fit their style and personal sentiments. Eva Cassidy is the best, bar none. I can't believe you're quibbling over a word change. I wish that was all I had to worry about,

You are regaled with a magnificent tour de force and you cavil about the "right" lyrics? Besides, "spell" sounds better than "strand" given the context of the song. She did the same with I KNOW YOU BY HEART.

The arrangements is pretty poor and the mixing isn't well either, but she absolutely kills it, even more than here
Makes me cry each time

This was always one of my favourite songs sung by Eva, such raw beautiful talent. I hope she can see how her music touches people today.

Whatever genre she is singing, she totally nails. Gospel, country, blues, jazz, r & b. She makes every song her own. She was a rare talent, gone way too soon.
