Cassidy, David - My First Night Alone Without You Lyrics

There's an aching in my head
From this bed I can't get used to
It's these little hours in the dark, I dread
As I spend my first night alone without you

Half of me has gone away
Gone the love I learned to cling to
Tomorrow I'll have to find a way
To live the rest of my life alone without you

You taught me how to live
To be myself
And how to give
Oh, and now it's you
Who's given up on giving

You lost the things, no one could teach
You changed and now you're out of reach
And life tonight, ooh life tonight, doesn't seem worth living

Sitting learning how to read
Back in school I never liked to
It's just one of those little things I'm gonna need
As I put my life together now without you

You taught me how to live
To be myself
And how to give
Oh, and now it's you
Who's given up on giving

You lost the things, no one could teach
You changed and now you're out of reach
And life tonight, ooh life tonight, doesn't seem worth living

Cassidy, David My First Night Alone Without You Comments
  1. n.... ....

THIS VOICE gives me goosebumps! At some point, I'm guessing he hired a voice coach, probably for EFX and Broadway. That screwed it up. The sound is completely different. If you watch him from the '90's (?) on, you'll notice his tongue is constantly in the way. He learned to open up his throat instead of just busting it out naturally. That's fine if you're in theater, but not so good for my ears.

This boy was my first crush at the age of 11 years old. I had never had these feelings before for anyone. He was so sexy, cute, handsome and alluring! I was in a fantasy for him! Still have the same feelings today listening to his music on YouTube! Thanks, Youtube!

The breathiness was swoon-worthy when I was 12 and 13. Now, even though he's gone, it's the songs where he pushes his voice that gives me goosebumps. This is one of them!

  17. M.... P....

    Beautifully sung, beautifully done.

  18. E.... H....

So how many of us fans listened to this song after he passed only 94 days ago . . . ?

  19. T.... S....

This album was total class . When you think he was so young and only recently been playing Keith Partridge , he had grown into such a unique singer . Despite his success he was underrated as a singer . Never tire of looking at him or hearing his voice.

  20. N.... ....

This is from 1972 yet sounds so fresh and not dated at all- very classic pop ballad.

  21. N.... ....

i think he was under rated as a singer- he had such a good emotive voice.

  22. L.... K....

that voice and orchestra and shirley in the background its all so incredible !!!

  23. P.... F....

Four years later and I'm back here. My teen idol has left this world. My heart is broken.

  29. S.... A....

Can paint a picture with his voice

  30. T.... P....

I always thought this song was only sung by Ray Charles and Bonnie Raitt, until one day I came across this! Probably one of the saddest songs ever. Beautiful version!

    T.... P....

Theresa Pellicano let's also give honourable mention to Jane Oliver's version. It's here on YouTube.

  31. E.... ....

I've never seen any young singers nowadays who is as handsome as David. He is quite short though, but I think it was because of overworked when he was younger that affected his growth.

    E.... ....

Good things come in small packages

  32. J.... M....

    beautiful

  33. b.... ....

Is there a more beautiful voice? Is there a more beautiful man?

    b.... ....

No way there could hardly ever be!! ♥

    b.... ....

    Definitely not. Never...

    b.... ....

definitely not! I saw him 1985 unique , petit , thanks for the beautiful memories

    b.... ....

There could never be another man as gorgeous as David. He was physical perfection, as well as having a great voice and a lovely personality. No-one will ever compare. RIP David, gorgeous man.

There will never be anyone as beautiful as him ever xx
9 months since he left us and I still can't believe he's gone xx

  38. D.... A....

From the age of 8 to 10 I was madly in love with David Cassidy, Im 48 now and still have a soft spot for my first love.  I remember my dad bought me a huge poster of him that was an actual photo blown up, I had it on my wardrobe door and used to kiss it every night before I went to bed lol.

  39. z.... ....

totally underated song, such power with passion

  40. P.... F....

    4 people are deaf!

  41. P.... F....

Amazing!! Now I am old enough, 58, to appreciate his vocals...when I was madly in love with him as a teenager, the hair, the eyes, the smile...swoon...was the focus! OMG! I am in love with him all over again!!

    P.... F....

I am 52 my youth was alive, he stands in time <3

    P.... F....

Same here, Patricia! All the way from Brazil, at 15/16, I was totally in love with his hair, his eyes, his smile... and surely underestimated his voice and great singing -which I can fully appreciate now, at 60. :-)

    P.... F....

David has a magical voice! This song is just amazing!!

  42. M.... N....

David's voice is so powerful, emotional here. Love this to bits - and him!

Arghhhhhhhhh my idol cant get any better than this ..........sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  50. s.... r....

1.54 and 2.35 pics i remember swooning over in the 70s, seeing them again is like being transported back in time, the memories so vivid i can almost taste it. The world is so different today, i wish i'd appreciated those hazy carefree days rather than just wanting to grow up fast! Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  51. f.... ....

Wonderful!! I enjoy your videos immensely. You should be so proud of all you have created. You have brought us who love David Cassidy together to reminisce and appreciate. I suffered a brain aneurysm a few years ago and became epileptic. Your postings are a nice respite from the trials of daily life.

This song is so beautiful, and made all the better by David's incredible voice. I suspect if I looked up gorgeous in the dictionary, the picture at 2:45 would be there. Thanks again!

  52. b.... ....

What a song!!! What a guy!!!!

  53. d.... ....

Today is actually David Cassidy's Birthday! Happy Birthday David ! Love you still.

  54. b.... ....

    wow this beautiful guy

  55. E.... J....

david cassidy: the most underated singer ever

    brilliant song

  56. d.... ....

I wish we had the live version of him actually performing this in the 70s it was just great!

  57. b.... ....

This guy has an incredible talent!! He is so cute in shorts, especially at 1.36, I often wish he wore them more often, his legs look so long for a shortish guy, just a great talented beautiful package.

  58. e.... s....

i believe this song was written by a man named Kin Vassey, who was a member of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. unfortunately Kin died a few years ago. david does a beautiful version of this song.

  59. d.... ....

He is still at the Top for me!

  60. D.... B....

    sigh...................

  61. w.... ....

surreal2008trueblue, sorry you're having marital trouble. David's rendition of songs always express some profound responses. He's a good guy. i'm glad there's a place for us!

  62. m.... f....

    hi carol,
agree, agree, agree, i too am a worshiper!!! and love, love, love this song too.

  63. T.... G....

    Sooo good!
SumerKis, what would we do without you. You're wonderful.

  64. p.... ....

Just realised two things.....as it was the last song on side two it was time to get out the bath !! and also the title is so relevant as I realise it was an omen for being without Margaret.

  65. p.... ....

When I was 16 I used to lay in the bath listening to this album and this song in particular. It was so relaxing and at that time I was going out with a girl who was a massive David fan and she used to think I looked like him. She was a fantastic girl and I was sorry it ended a while later. I stupidly ended it as I started to believe in what people were telling me. So this song brings back so much. Margaret was her name !

  66. S.... ....

    We sure do! =)

  67. S.... ....

    Thank you!

  68. d.... ....

Got to meet his best friend Sam after the concert. He peformed 2 shows in Tulsa OK. I was on 4th row center. It was a dream come true. Only a few of my camera shots turned out of him. I am really enjoying all the videos that you have on here. Brings back alot of wonderful memories. I had tons of pictures from my avid fan days but only have a few now and my concert book. I just love hearing the songs and this one put a chill down my spine...took me right back to 72 at the concert.

  69. S.... ....

I saw him in either 72 or 73, he sang it here also. He played the piano while performing it.

  70. d.... ....

I am a big DC fan. Got to see him in 1972. He sang this. I will never forget either.

  71. m.... f....

thanks so much for the info. i am going to go on amazon to find his past albums as i lost all my first editions in a flood many years ago along with posters and assorted other things. thanks again

  72. S.... ....

It came from the album,David Cassidy - Cherish. Its the last song on the first side. =)

  73. m.... f....

    m.... f....

Hi Maria, I don't know, if Summr had a chance to reply, to your question. The song is from his 1st LP, "Cherish," (Bell). You might find it on Amazon.com.

  74. w.... ....

    JUST BEAUTIFUL. THANKS.

  75. c.... ....

Another classic song by David written by Kin Vassy. There's one later perform by Bonnie Raitt in 1975 in YouTube. Another one song (after "I Write The Songs") that David released first.
