Cash, Johnny - Please Don't Play Red River Valley Lyrics

Well I see you got yourself a brand new harmonica
Mail ordered from the Steagal's catalogue
Boy I hope you can learn to play it like Lonnie Glossom
And while you added you to oughta learn a verse or two
Of Red River Valley Oh My Darling Clementine or Salty Dog
Oh but please don't play Red River Valley
And how about Polly Wolly doodle all day and see
You know the only song I ever learned to play on my 2 dollar and 98 cent harmonica
That I got from Wayne Raney in Clint Texas
C-L-I-N-T Clint Texas was Red River Valley
Then she said farewell to my french harp and me

Well I see you're doin' pretty good on your new harmonica
But don't you think you oughta learn about one more tune you know
See you hold it like you's gonna eat a handful of popcorn
And sometime you suck in and sometimes you blow
But friend now please don't play Red River Valley
And how about Polly Wolly doodle all day
Like I said the only song I ever learnd
On my 2 dollar and 98 cent harmonica that I got from Clint Texas
From Wayne Raney in Clint Texas was Red River Valley
Oh then she said farewell to my french harp and me

The irony thing, I live in Clint, Texas hahaha I am glad that Johnny Cash visited my town a long time ago.

    F. Cabral I’m honored he spelled my name in a song

  3. D.... R....

The album cover was done by the great artist Jack Davis. He is probably best known for his work in Mad Magazine but did album and book covers as well as movie posters ....

"Then She said farewell to my French harp and ME" "I being swallowed by a  Boa constrictor and i don't like snakes one bit,, "what do ya know he swallowed my toe".  Thank you for uploading this, Thanks for the memories

"you hold it like you was gonna eat a handful of popcorn"   Great Line!  If you don't like it, you get it :)    It's kind of a joke, a guy's bad memories of his pathetic attempts to learn the harmonica, only learning one song, and his long suffering woman saying "farewell to my french harp and me".   My dad was a huge JC fan, and ironically, we endured a similar experience when he tried to learn guitar and only "mastered" one tune:  "This Land is your Land" with a rendition that I'm sure had Woody turning in his grave.

Hi Debra,  I see your Dad was Johnny Cash Fan, Our Dads could have been Brothers, My Dad had bought every Johnny Cash record that came out. I couldn't get over the record jacket on Everybody Loves a nut.. I looked it over and over as the music played..  Happy New Year

I have this record and I love all the songs on it, but my basement just flooded and that was the only record I had of these songs. They may have been crazy and weird but they were done by Johnny Cash. Thank you for putting them here. Am looking for all the songs on the record. bug, boa, dog, coffee, left or right and all the others.
