Cash, Johnny - Darlin' Companion Lyrics

Darlin' companion, come on and give me understandin'.
And let me be your champion: a hand to hold your pretty hand in.
Darlin' companion, now you know you'll never be abandoned.
Love will always light our landin': I can depend on you.

Oh, a little saucy mare like you should have a steed.
Oh, a little bridlin' down from you is what I need.

Darlin' companion, now you know you'll never be abandoned.
Love will always light our landin': I can depend on you.

Darlin' companion, come on and give me understandin'.
As long as we keep laughin', bear in mind just what could happen.
Darlin' companion, I tell the mountains and the canyons,
Long as I got legs to stand on, I'm gonna stick by you.

Oh, a little saucy mare like you should have a steed.
Oh, a little bridlin' down from you is what I need.

Darlin' companion, I tell the mountains and the canyons,
Long as I got legs to stand on, I'm gonna stick by you.

Darlin' companion, I tell the mountains and the canyons,
Long as I got legs to stand on, I'm gonna stick by you.

    Demographical change is amazing

Great song... but the way some of these guys are looking at June Carter makes me wonder what they're in for.

  5. M.... *....

    What an underrated, great song.

  10. D.... F....

what you mean by different world view than Johnny Cash?

  11. .... M....

    Guy's face at 1:28

  12. T.... ....

I'm not sure what it actually is because I'm no music major but it sounds like June is singing in the same key as John but in a lower octave. Obviously they have a womans and mans voice but I find it fascinating how she sounds.

  13. R.... ....

everyone has this shining in his eyes while cash and june are singing.. i wish i could have seen both live

  14. j.... s....

like this version of this song better than the origional i have to say

Great stuff. I think you'll like this site http://www.musicalpearls.com/stories/

  17. f.... ....

Good for you! I like a lot of older music too. Of course that includes anything by all this artists in this concert (Carter Family, Carl Perkins, Statler Brothers), I also like listening to The Band, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, George Harrison and more modern artists such as Old Crow Medicine Show and Tommy Emmanuel and his brother Phil. I wish I started playing guitar when I was as young as you are... Keep practicing :)

im 16 years old and i love Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, George Jones, Keith Whitley etc. I find this music to always put me in a good mood and this is pretty much all i listen to because when i was little thats all my family listened to and played. June carter is my role model and Johnny Cash is the reason i started playing guitar

I've updated the playlist and put the songs in the correct order. There were 11 in the Granada documentary, but YouTube won't let me include 'a boy named Sue'. That seemed to cause problems. Hopefully it's fixed now!

  20. f.... ....

There seems to be a problem with 'A boy named Sue'. I had all the songs uploaded, but that song was blocked globally for some strange reason. I had to delete it or else have restricted access to my account.

  21. r.... ....

That's funny I saw four videos in the playlist then a message came up restricting me from watching in playlist format.

  22. r.... ....

I saw this on Ovation, but my cable company just got rid of the channel. So someday I aim to hunt down the video and buy it because all copies of the full version are gone off youtube.

  23. r.... h....

I learned how to play guitar and bass from the songs of this album

Being skeptical doesn't prevent a person from enjoying great music! Sadly though, I think a lot of people miss out because they ignore or dismiss anything which comes from someone with a radically different world view. Some people find it odd that Richard Dawkins likes Handel's Messiah...

  26. 6.... ....

@Dropitlikeitswarm I think it was showing how the prisoners were thinking about their own "darling companions", because from that shot it goes to the pictures in the prisoner's cells of wives and sweethearts.

  27. f.... ....

@Dropitlikeitswarm You'd have to ask the cameraman and editor from Granada TV!

  28. A.... S....

Not sure why it zooms in on the black dude for 10 seconds it feels like lol.

    A.... S....

Ever seen that footage of Winston Churchill's funeral (1965)? The camera spots a black guy in the crowd and then zooms massively in on his face. Different times... https://youtu.be/87Xkr8z3lEo?t=112

  29. f.... ....

@unassumption My channel is clean, but having other people's music does bring up a copyright notification which automatically blocks them in some countries. I got flagged on my backup channel for mirroring the NQGHOSTHUNTER debunking video. Thought that might happen, which is why I put it on that channel.

Unless the record company/ copyright holder decide to persue me it'll stay up. Others have had songs like this here for 5 years without problems. I always acknowledge where they came from.

  30. K.... ....

    @finlarg
No one as far as I know, I've always been afraid to put music up in case it gets flagged, wouldn't like to see strikes against your channel

  31. f.... ....

    @unassumption Who flagged this?

  32. K.... ....

hope this doesn't get flagged =S

  33. f.... ....

@bradjbourgeois73 Cash could see the good in people, even the real scumbags!

  34. B.... B....

Singing for prisoners... what a concept! Modern conservatives would probably crucify someone who did this today!

    B.... B....

Only a modern day marxist, such as yourself, would bring politics into something like this.

    B.... B....

How do you know he is?

    B.... B....

if you watch Walk the Line many of his church friends didn't want him to do this concert. They were quoted as saying "they want you singing to a bunch of murderers and rapists trying to cheer them up". "Johnny Cash (in the movie staring Joaquin Phoenix gave the perfect response) he said "Well their not Christians than". It is not our place to pass judgment on people. What a person does in their life is between them and God.

    B.... B....

Brad Bourgeois here we go again. Another snowflake bringing up politics to a great song.

  35. f.... ....

@irreverentreverend Without a doubt. There are a number of Johnny Cash Show episodes available on YT. It's amazing how many guests he had who later became household names.

You know, (this will seem strange coming from me) but he even managed to make religion seem cool... for a while, until I listen to someone else preach the gospel, then the bubble burst!

  36. f.... ....

@tiberianhorde OK, I hadn't heard about that. Thanks for the info!

  37. R.... '....

A true musical pioneer and supporter of talented new artists.
One of a kind, to be sure.

  38. f.... ....

@nett103 Thanks, I'm loving putting them together, it's something I've wanted to do for years, but only recently started getting the hang of editing software. I have a few more to do before it's finished!

  39. n.... ....

    I'm loving to Cash uploads!!

  40. f.... ....

@sonvolt48 I struggle to think of anyone else who has written and recorded so many of their own great songs AND covered so many different songs from such a wide variety of artists, yet put his own stamp on them!

  41. s.... ....

Always loved that Johnny embraced the music of us long-hair hippie types even back in the 1960s
