Cash, Johnny - Daddy Sang Bass Lyrics
I remember when I was a lad,
times were hard and things were bad.
But there's a silver lining behind every cloud.
Just poor people, that's all we were.
Trying to make a living out of black land dirt.
Daddy sang bass,
Mama sang tenor.
Me and little brother would join right in there.
Singing seems to help a troubled soul.
One of these days and it won't be long.
I'll rejoin them in a song.
I'm gonna join the family circle at the Throne.
No, the circle won't be broken.
By and by, Lord, by and by.
Daddy sang bass,
Mama sang tenor.
Me and little brother would join right in there.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.
Now I remember after work,
Mama would call in all of us.
You could hear us singing for a country mile.
Now little brother has done gone on.
But, I'll rejoin him in a song.
We'll be together again up yonder in a little while.
Daddy sang bass,
Mama sang tenor.
Me and little brother would join right in there.
Cause singing seems to help a troubled soul.
One of these days and it won't be long,
I'll rejoin them in a song.
I'm gonna join the family circle at the Throne.
Oh, no the circle won't be broken.
By and by, Lord, by and by.
Daddy sang bass,
Mama sang tenor.
Me and little brother would join right in there.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.

Paint me Johnny in a better place
I remember the first I ever heard this. I was 8. I thought my first Johnny Cash song was Ring of Fire in high school...til I realized this was one of his songs. Careful-I'm not as old as you think. Johnny Cash died when I was in middle school, 2003. My 10th grade English teacher said I sand Ring of Fire perfectly.
I'm set to be born in 2074 and I love Johnny Cash.
Beautiful soul this man was
Ok Boomer
...cuz singing seems to help a troubled soul...
Daddy sang bass, Momma made dinner
Hello 🌻🌻👍
Classic country music is the best .
Johnny Cash , Hank Williams Sr. , George Jones , Merle Haggard , Stonewall Jackson and the list goes on and on .
Today's musicians could learn a lot about music from the list of names mentioned and so many others of that time .
Backstory books are the ones you want have
Daddy smoked crack
Momma shot heron
Me n little brother would roll joints all night long
Wher is this country now
Kids adults elders all praise this man
And here's stupid lil nas x tryn to get dumb old town road on the country station
My Mom said the Statler bro's are singing backup
Yes, the Statler Bros. are singing, but they are not backup singers. The Statler Bros. had been singing for a few years when they did this song with Johnny Cash. Most people think that June Carter Cash is singing with them, but she's not, the singer is the country singer Jan Howard.
This song can make grown men cry.
I always thought it was "mama saying dinner"
Such a beautiful song
They’ll rejoin him in a song, whuaahuauaua. But it’ll be them, bi and bi.
Johnny is Right singing and make music give you happiness and forgot your troubles

I remember when my high school history teacher was playing Johnny Cash in class, and this song was on there. This was the day I became a fan of Johnny Cash.

"Daddy sang bass"
“Mama sang tenor”
A few days before my grandma died, she explained the meaning of this song while it was playing. She was a huge Johnny Cash fan. I was touched by the meaning, especially when she was just diagnosed with cancer and in hospice. She wasn’t one to be sentimental either. The next morning she had a horrible stroke that made her unable to communicate and she rapidly declined from there. When she was getting close to passing, but not able to let go, I kept humming this song to her. I didn’t know the melody 100% but I improvised. It was the meaning and intent that mattered. My aunt got into too if I remember right. This was a pivotal moment when we expressed acceptance of her passing and that we’ll be okay. She finally died about an hour later. We were relieved for her, and celebrated by playing her absolute favorite songs One Bourbon One Scotch and Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood. Yesterday, 5/2/19, was 7 years since her passing 🌤💐 HEY Oddone! Stop looking at me! You looked at me first!! 😜 You know I *might* actually miss you if you weren’t intruding in my dreams so much! Don’t you have better things to do?😂 Love you so much Grandma!!! 💕💕💕
Tanya L 👍👍
I have heard this so many times and just realized he said now little brother has gone on. His brother died from being nearly chopped in half by a saw
Before reading the lyrics I thought to hear "... little brother`s long gone home."
However J.C. has rejoined the circle at the throne.
I have Always LOVED Me Some Johnny Cash!!
This is true music
April 29th, 2019. Playing this loud as fuck while playing red dead online.
I’m not much of a country fan but I really like this song.
I think the song "will the circle be unbroken" from bioshock infinite was inspired from this
"I took my boat for a car...I took that car for a ride..."
Johnny Cash, The man in Black. Is my old name. The woman in black. Whew! In the sky Lord. I Love you Father. In Jesus name i pray Amen
My grandmama passed her love of Johnny Cash onto me and we bonded over it. I was born on his birthday, and she died on the anniversary of his death. We'll be together again up yonder in a little while.
My little brother is in rehab and my momma is too far away to visit regularly, they are still alive, but this song still helps me from getting the blues.

I love this song
As a 17-year old boy from India, sent to study in Munich, Germany, I first heard Johnny Cash on the American Forces Radio Network in 1958. He promptly became my favourite singer. Today I'm 77, and he still is !
wonderful singer 💕 ⛄❄🎄
Love you Grandpa!
😁😁😁😁😁😁😊😊😊
The song was written by Carl Perkins but it was recorded by Johnny. He and Carl toured together and were really tight. The "little brother" mentioned in the song is about Johnny's older brother Jack, who was killed at age 15. This is not myth. Johnny mentioned it in an interview. that is who the "little brother" is in the song.
This is the only song that stops my son from crying.
Great x
This song paints a picture of me being young in the house after school . good times man good times

How many people actually know what tenor is
There are two types of people in the world.
People who love Johnny Cash
and
People who've never listened to Johnny Cash
Glaceon Pokèmon yo is a bitch motherfucker Johnny was a great man for most his life and I’m not even religious but he’s in heaven unlike where you’re goin
Grew up listening to him and many other great country artists
*Correction: There are two types of people in this world; those who like Johnny Cash and those who like Pop.
@Glaceon Pokèmon why did you vote for Trump= YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!
pubclubdude very true 😊
I have a feeling that this song is about the Everly Brothers and their parents, Ike and Margaret.
Thankyou very much.
👍🎸🎼
People used to get together and listen to records. My dad and his friend used to sing along with this one. I miss him.
i remember when i was a lad

Statlers back there?
Was written by Carl Perkins
I'm a 14 year old transexual albino midget and love Johnny cash.
My dad played cash when I was a child, his songs have always stuck with me and always will.
Great song
I took my boat for a car
Chilean guy here, I discovered this music in Tennessee and now that I am in Florida I realized how much I love it. In less of two months I will visit my family at the south of the world and we will sing together in the unbreakable familiar circle. Love
