Cash, Johnny - A Legend In My Time Lyrics

If heartaches brought fame in love's crazy game,
I'd be a legend in my time.
If they gave gold statuettes for tears and regrets,
I'd be a legend in my time.

But they don't give awards, and there's no praise or fame
For hearts that are broken for love that's in vain.

If loneliness meant world acclaim,
Everyone would know my name
I'd be a legend in my time.

Johnny Cash was one of my favorite Country Western singer. Almost every song he ever did was a hit. As much as I love Johnny Cash, Ronnie Milsap did this song way better. Of course if Johnny Cash had recorded this in his prime of his life, say around the year 1975, I think he would've tide with Ronnie Milsap. Rest In Peace Mr. Johnny Cash. You're still one of my favorites of all times.

  10. D.... R....

I love Johnny Cash but not this. This one is best by and belongs to Ronnie Milsap and it's composer, the late great Don Gibson.

  11. R.... R....

Billions used it in the damn right moment.

  12. S.... O....

Billions brought me here! Damn best series in the world!

  13. B.... D....

I heard Ronnie Milsap's version first, and just heard Johnny's version for the first time tonight right here. These are two different versions, but I like them both the same. Johnny Cash could take any song and make it his own. Heck, any great artist has that capability.

Roy Orbison's original is the best, imho, but Johnny Cash does a great version here.

You were a living legend Mister Johnny Cash. I bow my head in big respect what you have done for others in your life (most people just know that you are a great singer). If this world had more people like you, it would be a way better place to live in. Thank you für all your love for others. R.I.P. you unforgotten Legend.

  31. B.... C....

Since I began playing guitar (used to be a drummer - see avatar), this is the one song by Johnny Cash I cannot sing and play for my audience without choking up and having to stop and go on to something else. What was it? Maybe because it was one of the last songs he recorded with all the pain from the cancer; missing his June?; I don't know. Just can't sing it.

  32. N.... S....

    Best version

  33. P.... W....

Sorry.  This is the worse rendition of this great song!!

    P.... W....

No need to be negative though.

    P.... W....

all renditions are at face value. if you don't like it just move on and FU

    P.... W....

Really ? Think about it man. Just like Reznor's Hurt.... the song is utterly totally different but in a super pure individualized manner that only that slighly out of tune baritone that only Cash can do's voice. I mean really think about it. You know your are wrong.

    P.... W....

    Peter Watkins you mean best

    P.... W....

You have the worst comment on the internet Peter Watkins

  34. P.... W....

Johnny Cash had this rare, unique ability to take any song in the world and sing it better than the original. And even in what seemed to be a easy, simple tune he could always find this hint of poetry. A true genius the likes of whom we'll never see again.

    P.... W....

+Paweł Wajlonis If Johnny sings your song it isn't your song anymore :)

    P.... W....

    +Kaylan S Hehehe xD

    P.... W....

You are SO spot on P.W. his voice was impeccably iconoclastic. That just ever so slightly out of tune intonation made every cover Johnny Cash ever did just impeccably more human and pure than the original. This here is a great example - as is "Hurt' by the great Trent Reznor. That was the first time I have ever heard a great musician's original outdone by mere pure simplicity. I am utterly blown away every time I hear Johnny do another cover tune.

  35. J.... B....

    I agree 100%

  36. A.... C....

    the master ! johnny

  37. H.... N....

I Agree. There has been many covers John does it best :)

  38. K.... E....

    Great song
