Casey Donahew Band - Still Ain't Made It Home Lyrics

Me and some guys I served with over there in desert hell
Got together a while back, everybody's doin' pretty well
Sanchez had a couple new tattoos, Price is a computer nerd
Somebody asked about T-Bone, I said the last I heard

He made it back like the rest of us
He put his rifle down and tried to pick his life back up
But when you see things no one should see
Sometimes the guy you used to be
Has to fight a battle of his own
He made it back but he still ain't made it home

He went back to Connie, you know they're from Counsil Bluffs
She told me she still loves him but it's been pretty tough
Says he's not sleeping, drinking heavy, spends too much time alone
Until she sees that smile she knows she'll leave that porch light on

He made it back like the rest of us
He put his rifle down and tried to pick his life back up
But when you see things no one should see
Sometimes the guy you used to be
Has to fight a battle of his own
He made it back but he still ain't made it home

We raised a glass
Said, "Boys, let's not forget
Just 'cause you're not bleeding
Don't mean you ain't been hit

He made it back like the rest of us
He put his rifle down and tried to pick his life back up
But when you see things no one should see
Sometimes the guy you used to be
Has to fight a battle of his own
He made it back but he still ain't made it home
Yeah, he made it back but he still ain't made it home

And people wonder why Soldiers because Soldiers of Fortune, or want to stay in war zones.. because we reprogram their brains for war.. we research this.. but we spend a tenth of the money to reprogram people to just be again... it’s hard.

This song represents the real cost of war yes service personnel are killed yes much money is spent but this is TRUE and ABSOLUTE daily hell for many

Wow this song sent chills down my spine. I came back from Iraq in 2008. Physically in one piece, but part of me is still there. I’ve fought my demons and nearly lost that battle 7 years ago. Thank you Casey for this song and helping bring awareness. There’s plenty of songs for the fallen, but this is one of very few that is for those of us battling PTSD.

CDB @caseydonahew, what a beautiful tribute to the hidden wounds so many warriors hide, only to turn septic inside their minds and check out...feeling like they had no where to turn. Then, sadly the families and brothers are left to struggle with the why and what they would've & could've done...if they'd just reached out to us!
This song hit me hard today; I spoke with my HS GF (damn near 30 years ago and we are still great friends) yesterday after I found out she lost her Marine husband to his demons. As a retired vet with struggles of my own, I can say unequivocally, America MUST do better by its vets in the area of mental health. Combat stress is NOT a disorder, it is an affliction that must be dealt with by eliminating the stigma of mental health and the bureaucratic BS of the VA! It shouldn't matter if we are retired, separated, discharged, filed for VA compensation or not...if a vet walks in or reaches out for help, YOU FUCKING HELP him/her!!! #22toomany

  27. T.... P....

    Thank you!

  28. L.... ....

We’ve been waiting for some new solid hits from CDB. And this, is what we wanted. Thank you! God bless our troops!
