Case, Neko - Wayfaring Stranger Lyrics

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
A-traveling thru this world below
But there's no sickness, toil, or danger
In that bright land to which I go
I'm going there to see my Father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
A-traveling thru this world below
But there's no sickness, toil, or danger
In that bright land to which I go
I'm going there to see my mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home
I'm just a-going over home
I'm just a-going over home

Case, Neko Wayfaring Stranger Comments
  1. K.... M....

This is too happy a version for me. Though her voice is one of a kind awesomeness. And I've been to her live show.

  2. A.... V....

god version, But Emmylou's is still my favorite.

  3. Y.... T....

I think Johnny Cash's is better but this is still a good cover

    Y.... T....

It's not a Cash cover. The song is at least 200 years old.

  4. M.... L....

Played at my auntie's funeral... sadly by guitar... so much better with banjo :)

    M.... L....

I sang this version to my beloved auntie as she lay dying yesterday. I’m so deeply grateful for Neko’s gift to share.

  5. J.... T....

Want this sung at my funeral.

  6. j.... ....

Why did she fuck up the lyrics?

    j.... ....

johnnyjr how did she mess up? it is a traditional song, people change the words all the time

    j.... ....

clairelodge72 ah, you beat me too it. :p yeah, you are right this song has as many versions as there are people who have performed the song

    j.... ....

I think what Johnnyjr might have been getting at is that she sang the 1st verse twice .. when there are quite a few verses with certainly lovely lyrics in all of them e.g. "I know dark clouds will gather round me, I know my way is rough and steep, Yet golden fields rise before me, Where God's redeemed their vigil's keep." a shame she just sang the 1st verse only.

  7. E.... M....

I listened to this song growing up.

  8. R.... D....

she has a very nice voice. Very original. I think I could recognize it without knowing it was he, which is a good thing

  9. n.... ....

    Best version of this song

  10. A.... ....

super clip! visit my channel, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

  11. D.... K....

I'm new to Neko.  Her voice is plaintive and easy to listen to.

    D.... K....

I agree she has an amazing voice

    D.... K....

Patsy, Loretta and Dusty Springfield all live in her pipes.  Sometimes a bit of Kristin Hersh does, too.

    D.... K....

My all time favorite of hers. And I have many favorite songs with Neko. She sings it so perfectly. Just love it.

    D.... K....

A disconsolate voice is very consoling. Dejected and doleful sounds singing anything can bring spirit to the dispirited but I'm not hearing it. I am however new to Neko and agree she sounds great. Plaintive? IDK. Maybe I need to listen to more of her stuff. Any suggestions?

  12. N.... O....

I have heard about 100 versions today, this one is the BEST!

  13. M.... F....

Had not heard her before she was on TV with Elvis Costello. I like her!

That's interesting and a little strange considering that the American Southern accent is an amalgam of many different dialects, but chief among them is Irish. Bluegrass also has firm roots in Irish folk music, (among many other traditions, of course,) and the Irish diaspora is better represented in the South and especially in Appalachia than anywhere else, where 10% of the population have Irish ancestry, compared to 6% in England. Both populations are larger than the total population of Ireland.

    S.... ....

SpookyJohnathan it’s more Scottish than Irish

    S.... ....

Welsh English. Many of the songs are local variations of traditional English Folk Songs and the accent is surprisingly similar to some of the regional cockney accents. The family names tell a lot of the locations of the original families, Drake, Taulbee, Oliver, King, and Miller, as examples. My family name is actually anglicized from the original Hessian, but interwined through four Appalachian states with the all the families above.

those people are misinformed as well as ignorant of history. Bluegrass started in the hills of Tenn ; which was settled by the Irish and Scots

  16. C.... ....

This is why famous people become politicians when they shouldn't be.

  17. S.... P....

    oh yeah, great idea.....

  18. W.... D....

I accidentally fell in love with her.

  19. D.... G....

    Just mindblowingly great.

  20. B.... S....

I would love to hear Neko do The Wayward Wind!!!

  21. H.... W....

nice, but there are way better versions of this song out there.

    H.... W....

name a few so the rest of us can check them out and decide for ourselves :)

  22. b.... ....

Loved It--thank you for sharing your voice.

  23. R.... T....

Not quite as haunting as 16 Horsepower's version but as always she sings it wonderfully.

  24. M.... ....

    Moc hezké! Krásný hlas.

  25. K.... H....

    no words - so cool

  26. M.... L....

The Detroit Historical Society sang this [in Civil War costume, no less )] at my auntie's funeral this past week.. They used guitar, but I feel banjo is the best accompaniment...

  27. A.... O....

    Cool :)

  28. m.... ....

Wow im in love i could listen to you all day sing to me all day lol

  29. H.... H....

three times? Did you try to undo it? gosh...

  30. A.... M....

    beautiful and talented!

  31. m.... ....

niech żyje muzyką, niech żyje Neko

  32. V.... W....

I love the countless versions of this song, and also the various emotions that each singer can create through it. Neko's take on Wayfaring Stranger is my personal favorite, because it's so powerful and not at all lamentful.

  33. A.... K....

    Powracamy do miejsc i miłości

  34. T.... N....

@omega14j1 if you like the video after disliking, it takes off the dislike. So basically, the "like' button IS a take back button, but then forces you to like the video :)

  35. o.... ....

@farfromthecrowd I bet you are wishing they had a take back button.

  36. A.... ....

Remember seeing her live in Moorhead, MN playing at Ralph's Bar in '02 (if I remember right), she played Wayfaring Stranger as an enchor. It was just her and guitar alone singing it. Entire crowd fell to a hush of astonishment, you could hear a pin drop everyone was so silent when she finished singing. Crowd cheered enormously a trice afterward. Beautiful. End of the concert bought Canadian Amp album from her personally, she autographed it. Great woman, very personable, just lovely.

  37. f.... ....

god, i feel terrible for clicking the dislike button by accident

  38. k.... w....

    shitty version

  39. v.... ....

    lost for words...........................
