I confess that this creative song Magic by The Cars started to resonate with my music listening soul by the summer 2017 timeframe after hearing it enough times via iheartradio. There is something special about this song that has some type of influence on why I still enjoy this song more and more each time I hear it as I currently type this January 2020.

I had a bad crush on Rick Ocasek. When I found out that he passed away, I cried for days and I still cry. Rip😢🙏

I just heard this for the first time. I absolutely thought it would have a blues bottle solo. Wah - I really liked it but I'm going to go and listen to some Tom Petty before I resume my Cars journey. xx

One of my most loved CARS videos. I miss Benjamin and Ric. I have always thought this video was a mix of Ric being Jesus or various characters from Greek Mythology. I have never understood it completely. I loved this as a child in the 80's and was heart broken when Ric passed.

Magic is a song from the American new wave band The Cars, which is the second single from the Heartbeat City album released in March 1984.
Composed by singer, rhythm guitarist and band leader Ric Ocasek, the song is produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange with the band.
Magic came out as a single and finished twelfth in the Billboard Hot 100 weekly standings and first place in the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The title also reaches 14th place in Canada and 50th place in New Zealand.
The video takes place at a party around the pool of a rich property, attended by a crowd of weird characters and a little crazy.
Ric Ocasek walks on the pool water as guests gather around him to admire him. At the end of the video, some of the guests try to reach him but can not walk on the water like him and find themselves in the water up to the neck. Meanwhile, Ric Ocasek remains standing on the water because, as the title of the song suggests, "it's magic".
The Cars turned Magic into the Hilton family property in Beverly Hills, which they rented to Kathy Hilton (Paris Hilton's mother). A Plexiglas platform was placed under the surface of the water but it gave way during the first catch and had to be adapted to the weight of Ric Ocasek.
The house was also used for filming Blind Date with Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger in 1987.

I was 12 when this song played 50 times a day....Ric should have NEVER been the front man. He's so ugly/homely to us young girls it made this band less than if Ben had remained the front man during the video days
