Cars, The - I'm In Touch With Your World Lyrics
you can tuck it on the inside
you can throw it on the floor
you can wave it on the outside
like you never did before
you get the diplomatic treatment
you get the funk after death
you get the wisenheimer brainstorm
i'm in touch with your world
so don't you try to hide it
i'm in touch with your world
and nobody's going to buy it
it's such a lovely way to go
i've been lying on your feathers
i'm a psilocybin pony
you're a flick fandango phoney
it's a sticky contradiction
it's a thing you call creation
everything is science fiction
and i ought to know

Cars, The I'm In Touch With Your World Comments
Um ok what am I listening to
I remember when this came out, my friends and I mainly listened to Zep, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, basically the hard rock of that time. The Cars just had something about them, even for the hard rockers, great musicians, catchy tunes, they went right into my collection.
RIP Ric & Ben...such a great song!
My cousin and I always thought the lyrics were.... “You’re a big fat macaroni”🤣
XTC was not the only band that could make quirky offbeat music...the Cars was experts too.
RIP Ric and thanks for the memories
Vale Ric.
R.I.P., Ric. Thanks for sharing your brilliance.
An under appreciated song for sure. Not a bad song on this classic album. Perfection all around.
New Wave at it's best...ladies and gentlemen,The Cars!!!
typical yankee ingenuity this tune is!
I'm a peyote pony
Great band from the Back Bay of Boston. Under rated but I can listen to them any day. Never gets old.
I got this album on CD I also have candy o album.
Cool song, but it's an oddball on this album. Everything else is party amped up rock, and then this is like chill trance music. Should have been the last song instead of in the middle.
Trippenest one of theirs
I like this~
I'm a suicidal pony, you're a big fat macaroni.
The best ever-The Cars, I'm in touch With Your World & My Best Friend''s girlfriend.............................
What a song
Always reminded me of Bozo....the Clown ! Ahhh, childhood memories.....
EARLY NIRVANA kinda
Best cars tune ever never on radio
reminds me of DEVO
Everything is science fiction....and I autta know
12 people weren't in touch with his world
I think Rick invented the term flick fandango phony.
'Get the wisenheimer brainstorm', 'I'm a psilocybin pony', 'You're a flick fandango phoney' ... that's a sublime treble of lines.
This was the only song my Mom skipped on the CD. I remember that clearly, even though I was around five or so... But that's probably why I didn't remember it when I got back into these guys a few years ago. Her personal favorite is You're All I've Got Tonight.
Vicky Pharo same with mine! She didn't like much of Ric's stuff really and we agreed on that cuz Ben is/was absolutely amazing! 😏
My favorite Cars song!
There is a Buddy Holly presence in this song : ah-ho-ah-ho. Buddy probably would have liked it.
The Cars were truly one of a kind💖💖💖💖💖
I'm a silly sided pony. You're a big, fat knackerbony.
great memories : I was in bathroom getting ready for 9th grade one morning, this song plays , and when I get out , my dad says " boy, what the hell are you listening to"? lmao now
HAAAAAHAHAHA> that is great .
@Michael D Now we're saying that about the kids 'music' today. (But it IS truly awful).
"It's a 'fig fandago phony!' Get with the times or PERISH old man!" (That's what I would have said to my dad, who owns this album. We have a great relationship though.)
Lol. I was also in 9th when this album came out. The Cars Definitely made our teens for the better
Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the debut of this album! This can't be 40 years old! The Charleston is old! Not this!
It is now the 40th anniversary, but it will *NEVER* get old. *NEVER.*
@Dak Lamerbusch Not in our lifetime !
@Dak Lamerbusch I forgot i was old...Ahhhh...fuck it ....party...!
Makes me feel silly, I love it!
A N was b
I'm a psilocybin pony, indeed. :)
R.i.p., Benjamin Orr.
You said it.
side two of this album flows perfectly on to the last two jams moving in stereo/all mixed up. the whole album flows with every song as good as the next. perfection!
This is a drug song and if i'm wrong you can call me Susan lol
+youandwhosearmy? actually it is about sexual reassignment
you can tuck it on the inside
you can throw it on the floor
you can wave it on the outside
like you never did before
Hi Susan! 😆
lol @Dr. Awkward
I love the cars but ....not this particular song, Oh well, we all have different tastes.
It is very . . . weird. But that's why I LOVE it!!! The little goofy noises make me laugh like crazy!:D
This song has a cool inviting way about it. There's not another song like it.
It's a song that will remain in your memory banks for the rest of your life.
don 417, If you have to ask what a wisenheimer brainstorm is, you just wouldn't understand! NecroWhore understands, he's a psilocybin pony. I will tell you it's got nothing to do with G.E. Teijeiro's past case of gonorrhea nor her presently naked vagina! Enjoy!
I saw the Cars on their last tour in Denver, CO. (2012) They played this song, Blew my mind. Incredible beat n lyrics.
I sw them too , at the Fillmore.
@Ashley Walden No way ! Without Benjamin, how did they sound ?
The first time I heard this song, my Vagina caught fire...That;s why I shave now...Brings back memories...
Hilarious!!
If that's the case I'll sing it to your vagina.Lol. That's the1st time I"ve ever spelled or wrote that word. I'm a lil ropugh around the edges I guess
Vage caught fire, can a tongue put it out?
Greatest comment ever!!!!
Hoo ha ha?
First two cars albums - perfection. I wore out that Vinyl. Flick fandango phony...
+Liberty AboveAllElse Three
@youandwhosearmy? Gotta. Love The Cars!!!!!
Nope!!! Big fat macaroni 🤣
one of the greatest debut albums ever
Robert Lemuel yep, right up there with Boston
drugs man. fucking love it
The Cars and early New Wave bands did not get into drugs because they were anti-hippy and that's what hippies did.
Yeah, right @Tory Starbuck
@Tory Starbuck he says in this song, "I'm a psylocybin pony" that's the hallucinogen in shrooms. I'm sure the man did some drugs
Greg's talent really shines on this track. I love his synthesizer, noisemaker & saxophone effects!
loved watching Greg whip out all those different instruments and noise makers during this song on the Cars at Musikladen DVD :)
new wave now classic rock
Nice. I only recently learned the main riffs on my own, but haven't gotten around to trying the lead parts yet. Easton does a great job on them though and it was a lot of fun seeing this song live back in 2011 too!
Yeah, the A and B chord both use this riff that I have yet to figure out. I have also recently learned the solo. There's just one or two bends that I cant get to sound right.
Right on! I think the power chords during the "It's such a lovely..." part are A & B too, before going back into the main riff each time.
Easton was very underrated. One of my faves on guitar...
This is a great song but could have been a song Devo did. Speaking of which, did the Cars have Devo in mind when they recorded this son?. Devo and the Cars debuts both came out in 1978 and this songs clunkeness reminds of Devo's cover of the Stones Satisfaction.
Well done... well done. :)
I cruised the back roads many years ago jammin to this. Little 420 made it sound even better then!!
Luv YOU
wave it onthe outside like you never did before i think a young princess whose never heard the word no lol
For tabs 0:18 to 0:34 C#, F#, C#, E, B, C#
It's all power chords. Standard tuning. The rest you'll have to see when I post my cover :)
sorry, my computer keeps overheating, thanks for attempting to watch it though, much appreciated, ill try to upload it again soon!!
in march of 2001, my bride & i walked into our wedding reception hall to this song. we were & still are in touch with each other's world & we don't try to hide it. our over-dinner music, you ask? the rest of this near-perfect album---fantastic!
The Cars' debut album is as fresh as it was nearly 35 years ago after its release!
I swear to god, I'm gonna start slipping "Wisenheimer Brainstorm" into every day conversation.
git da wiesnenhighmer brainstorm hahahaha
@NecroWhore BRONY!
the only thing that gives away how long ago this song was made is the horn ring inside the steering wheel on the cover. oh, and also that the song doesn't suck.
@highway234~ That isn't an indicator of how old this is... It's a see-through steering wheel, and the car the model is sitting in (if she is even sitting in a car) is probably a vintage car, even in "78", which some "new wave" and "punk" leaning aficionados would drive or like or would aspire to drive, or thought was cool at the time... They didn't even make clear plastic steering wheels, with the
horn ring, back when they had these types of
Steering wheels(basic black) that came stock in cars... (50's-60's) .... That looks more like what a "new wave", punk, rock- a-billy fan or musician might want to replace on their
Vintage car...
...are you in touch with my world?...
its good 2 know these guys are back!!! !!!!!!
Wiseheimer Brainstorm
@rockhead261
I though i was the only one who though this song was physedelic rock! Nice!
I was at the Roseland concert too! Front row! One of my favorite songs! Loved it then and still love it!
I was in Roseland last night also... this song, more than any other played last night, brought me back to to 1978 in its full, psychedelic glory. I closed my eyes and remembered why I let this ALBUM (yes, vinyl) play from start to finish, over and over again, without interruption. Yes, Ric, you're in touch with my world. What a great song, thanks for the upload.
saw them do this song in NYC last night ....totally awesome! Ric said here`s one you don`t ever hear...
you're a pink fandango phony
Why is this song so F***ing AWESOME??
Awesome drum/precussionwork!
this song always made me think of Space Invaders.
This song is symbolic, I love cryptic messages.
@don417 its basically a smart-aleck brainstorm.
the lady's clown red lips bug me!!!!
When I first heard this, I did thought it was an odd one at first then liked it later on.
A Wisenheimer brainstorm is something only experienced by flick fandango phoneys.
what the hell is a wisenheimer brainstorm? That's all I want to know.
