Carpenters, The - Superstar Lyrics

Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here
It's just the radio

Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby, I love you I really do

Loneliness is such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again

What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again
And play your sad guitar

[Chorus x2]

  3. Norhamadi Ahmad

No one else can sing better than our beloved Karen Carpenter.. We all missed her dearly 😭😭😭😭

  4. Kraig Nelson

Karen Carpenter had so much natural Talent, I don't think she even had to try to sing, the Beautiful music just came out. You have to keep coming back to music in the 60s 70s and 80s because there is no good music today

  5. Peter Gorgone

35 years later, I realize my Mom had much better taste in music than I'd thought when I was 15yo :)

  6. WHAT UP?

I like luther Vandross's version, but this one is more innocent and pure. It was made at a more innocent time.

  21. Bob Thortwack

Every time I hear Karen's voice I think to myself how I could have made her happy if I knew her, as to keep her here on earth for all mankind awhile longer.

  22. Ronald McReynolds

Trying to decide which Carpenters tune was best is impossible. Like picking the best diamond from a pile of perfect diamonds. Why does this video have 22 million views? Because you're listening to absolute perfection, no matter what Karen might be singing. Karen is the best singer I've ever heard. Karen is the most beautiful spirit I've ever seen. Karen is love and innocence come to Earth from Heaven.

  23. Snake

    Tommy boy anyone?

  24. The King's Servant

One thing that might set Karen Carpenter apart from all other female she seems to be ego-less, and just sings because that's what she is doing. She is not trying to be a star, or tell you her myth. She is just singing, and the words are true. There is something true going on here. And Karen, is the pure person who can say this truth....and everyone gets it, even though it's hard to really talk about that. She has it, and her voice sounds like heaven.

  25. Ronald Lucero

Loved you First Time I seen U ❤️

to jasmine my cat of 14 years who died in my arms, i"ll find you in kitty heaven

  43. Philippa Pay

One of the few truly unique and beautiful female voices that goes through the ear and into the bone marrow immediately. She was fortunate to have a brother who knew how to arrange and write for her stunning vocal qualities. I wish she had gone on to do more. Her voice gets to you where you really live and we all need artistry that can help us find our center and stay centered and enjoy being there.

  44. GG GailN

Such a tragedy, that this beautiful angel died at age 32. We didn't know much about anorexia nervosa in 1983. Just love listening to her gorgeous voice. So sad she's not here any longer.

  45. The Future Is Here

BTW, Luther Vandross does an AMAZING cover of this song.
I think he did his in 1984. His singing starts at about 2:00

  52. Bert Smith

I've heard a lot of great female singers in my time, Whitney Houston, Shirley Bassey, Mariah Carey, and many others, but after thinking about it for quite a while, I've put Karen Carpenter at number 1, and Judith Durham at number 2.

Great selection Bert although I think it's a dead heat.Hard to seperate those 2 legends & Whitney's next for her powerful unique voice IMO

  78. horsewhale9

Vocal talent is when the song comes effortlessly and naturally to the singer because it's backed by sincere and personal emotion. True talent is when that singer brings us into the song so we feel the personal emotion expressed, as if it were our own. Karen Carpenter could do this.

  79. Halid Agil

"Loneliness is such a sad affair"

You can hear her hurt soul in her music. I can feel her life pain. Makes me cry. She was so beautiful and didn't even know how truly special she really was. So so sad....

  94. John Crafton

    Simply breathtaking, as always.

  95. Smallstudio Design

Karen Carpenter died this day 1983.

    • On my drive home I listened to CBC radio — they had a feature on young people today with eating disorders and the pressures from social media etc. but there was a mention of Karen Carpenter — then they played one of her songs: SUPERSTAR. It brought tears to my eyes.

    • When we were singing at chorus / jazz choir at high school, Mr. Anderson, our Music Teacher always had us listen to her (The Carpenters), sling with Canada’s Anne Murray, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, and other icons who stood out with their particular vocal expressions, range & bravado.

    • Karens soothing lilting voice and pleasant demeanour particularly was something held in high regard.
    • I’ve always admired her voice but was so saddened by her untimely death.
